Chapter 17: Want to become an adventurer with a child

I came to the exam hall. Well, the venue is in the Adventurer’s Guild building. There were about 20 boys and girls there. Like me, they must be an examinee as well. These are people who are about to become adventurers, and many of them seem to be relatively young. There were a few children who were only ten years old or so.

As expected, I’m the only baby, who is a little over two months old.

In the morning, there will be a written exam and the practical exam will be held in the afternoon. It also appears that only those who pass the written exam can proceed to take the practical exam in the afternoon.

According to what I heard from Fana and Ilia, the questions asked in the written exam are very simple general knowledge and common-sense questions that are necessary for adventurers. The passing score is 70 points.

The content of the questions does not change much every time, so the difficulty level is not high. ……However, it is said that the breakthrough rate is not very high, probably because many aspiring adventurers are weak-minded.

The content of the practical exam seems to vary depending on the time, but it seems that most of them will be a practical battle-style test, such as going out of the city to defeat monsters and completing actual requests.

The pass rate for both is only about 30 percent.

“Tsk! Who is it!? Who brought their child to the exam? Taking your child and be an adventurer, I guess you’ve been looking down on adventurers, aren’t you?”

When I was sitting down for the written exam, there was a boy who looked at me and said something like that. Apparently, he thought someone had brought their newborn child.

“It would be annoying if he starts crying during the exam. I don’t know whose kid it is, but at least let him out.”

 I corrected the misunderstanding.

“No, I’m going to take the exam too though?”

“……Huh?”

The irritated boy’s eyes widened a lot.

“B-, B-, B-Baby… a baby that can taaaalk!!?”

“Yes.  As you can see, I can speak. Let’s do our best in the exam.”

“W-What the heck is this baby!?”

In the midst of the commotion in the hall, the examiner clapped his hands.

“Hush, it’s time to start the exam. ……Don’t worry about that baby. I can’t believe it either, but I heard that the guild leader himself has allowed him to take the exam.”

With a dazed look on their faces, the examinees took their seats. Questionnaires and answer sheets were distributed, and the written examination began.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

The one-hour written exam is over.

“Aaah, I’m so tired. This is the first time I’ve sat for so long…”

“How was it? Did you do well?”

“Frankly, I’m not confident. I’ve filled in only about half of it…”

For adventurers who prided themselves on their physical strength, sitting still for long periods of time seemed painful in itself. In addition, many people say that the result was not very good.

No, it was insanely easy though…..

Honestly, it was all common sense problems at the level of children. Naturally, common sense must have changed from the past to now, so I had been supplementing my knowledge by asking Fana a lot of questions over the past two days. That was enough to complete my answers.

“Alright. We’ll announce the results in half an hour, we’ll meet again when it’s time.”

Grading seems to end in 30 minutes. There’s only about 20 people at most. I’ll just wait here for about 30 minutes.

“Wow!, this baby can really speak!”

“So cute. Hey, let me hold you too!”

“Hey, what about your father or your mother?”

While being loved by the girls who took the exam, I waited for 30 minutes. The examiner then returned.

“Alright, from here on, I’m going to announce the results. Okay, first, Azel…… Failed.”

“S-Seriously?… This is the second time in a row that I have failed the written exam…”

“Next, Ileira….. Passed.”

“I did it!”

“And then, Emidel… Failed”

“Dammmmn!”

It seems that the name of the examinee is read aloud, and then whether they passed or failed is announced.

“Balzer… Failed.”

“Huuuh!? How come!? I thought I have filled everything!?”

The examiner was approached by the boy who had been annoyed with me before the exam.

“……Certainly, they were all filled, but the correct answer was less than half of them. Your score was only 47 points.”

“Yo-, 47 points…”

He received giggles and laughter from the other examinees.

“I’m going to proceed. Next. Reus…”

Oh, its my turn.

“Passed.”

Okay, it looks like I’ve made it through safely.

“Oi Oi, that’s impossible, right!? Why did that kid passed but I failed!?”

It was Balzer, the boy from earlier, who spoke up again.

Sigh. No matter how much you complain, you just haven’t reached the passing grade.

The examiner talked to him in little annoyed voice,

“……No matter what you say, he’s definitely going to pass. By the way, his score is 100 points. He got all the questions right.”
