Walking, Chapter 18: A quick defeat

“Now we are going to start the practical training. Each of you can have a duel with any of us here. This will measure your abilities and we could also point out your areas for improvement. This will be beneficial as you continue your activities as an adventurer. Healers and other rear guards are also welcome to join in.”

After doing some warm up exercise, the Guild Master gathered us and then she started to explain the practical training.

We are the last to go, so we decided to watch the other guys fight.

“Hahaha, we’ll go first then.”

“Fufu, good. I need to let off some steam you see.”

Hoh-, that arrogant swordsman and mage challenged the Guild Master to a duel. It’s like they have been waiting for this. Looks like the Guild Master also expected such development, she was not bothered at all. By the way, the healer seems to be listening to various advice from the burly staff member.

Mmm, that is the correct response.

“Oh, fine by me. You two can attack at the same time. By the way, young man, you can use the sword hanging at your waist.”

“Damn! You’re underestimating us!”

“I won’t give a damn if you die!”

When the Guild Master said that they could attack at the same time, the swordsman and the mage lost their temper.

Sigh, wrong move.

Even if they fight the Guild Master calmly, the two of them had little chance of winning. What more now. Mmm, this is a quick defeat for sure.

“Take this, seiyaaa!”

“Hehehe, burn to death!”

The mage fired a barrage of fireballs and the swordsman charged in. At first glance, they seem to work well together, but the fireball was not imbued with enough magical power, and the swordsman has a fatal weakness, —he is too slow.

“Fu-, Sei, Haa!”

“Guwaah!”

“Kyaa!”

The guild master countered the fireball with her fists and kicks, dodged the slash of the swordsman and then she grabbed the swordsman’s arm and swiftly threw him towards the mage. The swordsman and the mage collided and both of them lost consciousness.

In order to prevent the mage from being pierced by the sword held by the swordsman, the guild master knocked down the sword held by the swordsman before throwing him away.

“Sigh. The swordsman lacks physical ability, and the mage lacks magical proficiency. Come to think of it, I heard that the third son of some Count Family failed the knight exam in the royal capital. It was said that he was asked to start over from the basics.”

Despite their bravado, they both lost easily. In fact, even for me, they are too weak.

The two of them were taken to the infirmary on stretchers. The healer who was left behind hurriedly chased after them. The guild master already knew what the two of them were capable of. They were at a level where they failed the knight exam to begin with, so they weren’t particularly strong. They are just making a fuss out of their family’s prestige.

“Alright, let’s proceed with you guys. Make sure you are good at defending yourselves.”

“““Yes!”””

The other people here did not let their guard down to begin with, and they also know their own capabilities.

They challenged the guild master and staff members to a fight and listened seriously to their suggestions for improvement. The guild master and staff members also carefully explained what they asked about.

If only those two had this level of humility……

But after seeing that fight, that seems impossible.
