“Master is here to see you.”
The head butler opened the door of the drawing room and informed us. We hurriedly stood up upon hearing it.
Sue bowed, so I bowed too. Shiro and Ao also bowed down, but they have candy dregs on their cheeks making it look a bit funny.
A man with a well-trained physique like a warrior appeared in the room. He had short, brown hair with a few gray strands mixed in.
“Make yourself at ease. This is not an official place.”
We looked up when the Margrave spoke to us. He has a stern face and sharp eyes.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, my Lord. My name is Shun. I look forward to working with you.”
“Mm, that’s a nice greeting like a nobleman. I’m the Margrave of Southland. I’m charge of this frontier.”
“I’m Shiro. This child is called Ao-chan.”
“Haha, what a lively little girl. Shun right? It’s a child’s reply, so don’t worry about it.”
“Y-yes, thank you for your leniency.”
Shiro greeted the Margrave enthusiastically like how she does with others so I was about to warn her, but the Margrave said it was fine.
Next time, I will have to teach her how to greet people, especially with nobles. The Margrave of Southland greeted us with a smile, which was helpful.
“My Lord, it’s been a long time. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience I’ve caused this time.”
“No. I am the one who should apologize to Miss Sue. If not for those forged papers, I had no intention of letting you work with those two.”
Oh?
As I was listening to Sue’s conversation with the Margrave, the subject of document forgery came up.
What does he mean by that?
“Right. I should tell Shun about it. Well, Miss Sue was originally going to team up with a knight from my domain. However, a certain noble forged the paperwork and made her team up with those two idiots.”
“I’ve heard that the person who was caught was the third son of some count’s family.”
“The person involved in the forgery of documents is from the higher-ups. I don’t think Shun knows this, but there are forces that are cancerous to this country.”
The Margrave sighed, and Sue smiled wryly.
Those people are that bad huh.
Then the Margrave turned to me again.
“I can’t tell you the details, but Miss Sue has been sent to visit Margraves in various regions for a certain purpose. Shun, I’m sorry for this, but would you be so kind as to accompany Miss Sue on her journey to those various regions?”
“That’s not a problem. We originally planned to travel around the country as an adventurer.”
“That’s great then!”
The Margrave of Southland asked me to accompany Sue on her way to various frontiers. I readily agreed as there was no problem with accepting the task at all. We had originally planned to go around various places after all.
Shiro and Ao also said that they are okay with it.
“However, I plan to train as an adventurer in this southern frontier territory for a little longer, and then we will head to the next frontier territory in the spring.”
“That’s very insightful of you. Yes, it would be better that way. I have heard that you are a first-class magician, but it is not wrong to train yourself well.”
For the time being, this seems to be the end of Sue’s matter. The Margrave of Southland also told me about those two people.
“Those two will be in a compulsory service for a month. They have noble privileges, and they are still minors after all.”
“It’s such a trouble dealing with them.”
“Mm. It’s also their first offense after all. Well, I won’t forgive them next time. As for the money they stole from Miss Sue, it would cost a little more. I’m sorry, but I’ll contact you again when it’s dealt with.”
“No problem. Thank you for your consideration.”
I hope those two will be able to grow up while doing their compulsory service.
That’s probably not going to happen though.
This was the end of the discussion, and we were treated to a meal afterwards. Somehow, fancy foods were served, and I was quite nervous while eating.
“Refill please~”
Oh, I’m jealous of Shiro and Ao who can ask for a refill without hesitation.
Then after the meal, we were sent back to the inn.
As we got back to our room, I fell asleep immediately, probably because I was tired.
