Chapter 30: Future plans

I took out a pen and paper and decided to put together our plans for the future. It was fun to talk with Eugenie and Char about the future of Gandalcia.

The pen runs smoothly across the paper, and the blue ink vividly depicts our planned future.

Upgrade the open-air bath. Make it a bathing facility with walls and changing rooms. Points Required: 15, Required Expenses: 300,000 crown coins

Attach a gate to the end of the bridge. A bathing fee will be collected there. This will be to prevent suspicious persons from entering the island at night. Required points: 3

Prepare the road to the hot springs. Points Required: 10. Requirements: We need to collect rocks. On the side note, Char put, Char will do her best!

“I guess that’s all I have to make.”

Signs for restaurants and hot springs can be made by buying paint in Lebon town and make them myself.

“How many points do you have left?”

“I’ve got 22 points right now. I think I’ll have 32 points by tomorrow.”

The luncheon was a great success, so the happiness level should remain high.

I expect to see a 10-point recovery tomorrow.

“Then that means that by tomorrow you’re going to be able to build all the facilities.”

“No, not yet. I still don’t have enough money.”

Upgrading the hot springs will cost 300,000 crown coins after all.

Building a facility for the first time is free of cost, but I need to pay when I upgrade it to level 2 and above. That was also the specification in the Island Maker game.

“Well, roads and gates can be built right away.”

“If it’s the rocks to use for the road, leave it to Char!”

As soon as she said it, Charlottte rushed out again.

“At this rate, I think we can build a road and a gate by the end of today.”

I just need enough money.

Once I got the chicken and goat I had been longing for, I would have to save up for the hot springs.

Anyway, we have to build a barn for the goats and chickens. This can be made with 2 points and can be placed next to the vegetable garden.

I’m very excited to have a family zoo.

The goats will eat the grass along the road and clean them up. When I get fresh milk and eggs, I’ll ask Lynn to bake me a pudding.

My goal only grew.

For the next few days, I worked tirelessly.

I made a path out of the rocks Char had brought to me, and then we went into the cave to collect ore that could be used for money. Every time I found a star-shaped depression, I dug a hole.

Sometimes a precious coin came out, and sometimes a seasoning fruit was found. By far, the most common seasoning fruit is peppercorns. There are no real peppercorns growing on the island of Gandalcia, but the seasoning fruit comes out.

The seasoning fruit I currently own looks like this.

Peppercorns ×19
Curry fruit ×7
Soy sauce fruit ×2
Mirin fruit × 1

Yes, I finally found the soy sauce fruit!

When I powdered it and dissolved it in water, it was soy sauce itself!

I also used the soy sauce to make Char’s anticipated Sea Urchin Don.

“Father, this is delicious! Let’s find more!”

She praised it highly.

I’d like to have rice next, but I rarely see it in Dantè’s territory.

I can upgrade my vegetable garden to create paddy fields, but I have to raise the level of my fields to do so. Of course, I need points and money, so I’m going to put up with it for the time being.

After breakfast, I packed my luggage.

“Alright, today we are going to Lebon for the first time in a long time.”

“Are we going to buy good food in town?”

Char wants something sweet.

“Today, we are not shopping, but we’ll be selling goods. I’m going to sell all kinds of things in Sambabano to earn some money.”

I have old coins dug out of star-shaped depressions, strawberry stones, and pepper bombs.

The Pepper Bomb is a magic bomb that Nowald-sensei taught me, but the ones I have right now are the ones with my own improvements.

Magic bombs are small bombs that are almost non-lethal. However, it creates a loud noise and a flash of light, so weaker monsters will be startled by the explosion and run away. Its average selling price is about 500 crowns.

Because of its low price, travelers often buy it as an amulet. I improved it by adding peppercorns to the ingredients. Then I put it in a bamboo tube so that it could be set off like fireworks.

I tried it in the cave, and it worked great.

Even the monsters that couldn’t escaped from magic bomb were blinded by the pepper bomb and sneezed repeatedly. There was only a little room for them to launch an attack after that.

Nowald-sensei also complimented me on how well I had done it.

However, depending on the direction of the wind, it may hurt the eyes and throat, so it still needs proper caution when used. In particular, caves are enclosed spaces, so the user needs to be careful when using them.

As soon as you fire one shot, you should quickly leave the area. This is the principle of my pepper bomb. You have to go with hit-and-run tactic.

“Don’t be afraid to fail, just try anything you think of. Then improve what you can’t do. If you can’t do that, approach it from a different direction.”

Those are Nowald-sensei’s words of encouragement.

Eventually, I would like to make it a more useful item.

Well, it’s a pepper bomb, but the materials were all collected in the cave and in the woods, so it didn’t cost me any money. Considering that, I would like to be able to sell them in for at least about 300 crown coins each.

This time I made 30 of them, so I hope to get 9,000 crown coins in total.

I’ll discuss it with Bigma, the gentlest of the three.

  1. So its alchemic pepper spray. As someone with a sensitive nose, that sounds like it would be a nightmare if used on me.
