A few days later, Paul-oniisan delivered a goat and four chickens. I was worried at first, but all of them are doing well in the barn. I had heard that when stress builds up, goats stop producing milk and chickens stop laying eggs. However, all the animals lived freely, the goats produce four liters of milk every day, and the hens all lay eggs every day.
This is exceptional, isn’t it?
Perhaps a special force on the island of Gandalcia is at work that makes the animals healthier and more productive.
The chickens peck at the insects in the field, and the goats eat the grass along the roadside, which is very helpful.
Lynn prepares the eggs and goat’s milk deliciously, which makes both Char and I very happy.
We also use the eggs for meals for customers who come to the auberge. I would like to have more fresh eggs, so I plan to order more chickens as soon as I have the money. I’d like to raise about 20 chickens in total.
Would I be able to increase the numbers if I breed them myself?
Well, I guess that’s something I’ll have to work out for the future.
My days on the island progressed.
It’s now early winter, but the number of guests is steadily increasing. At first, Upa was worried that customers would be scared if he became the manager, but the result was quite the exact opposite. He has become so popular that he even attracted some fans, especially among the madams.
Upa was a bit troubled when they squeal, “Kyaaa-kyaa”, making him scratched his head. However, him doing that makes them squeal again. Such a scene is often seen in the auberge.
“I prefer cutie Cedie though.”
Emma, who came for the first time in a month, made such a light remark.
“Don’t tease me.”
“Father is cute!”
Char was in a good mood, probably because she was happy that I was being praised.
“Char is so much cuter.”
When I said that, she got even happier.
It was very cold outside, so today, I served Emma a warm honey ginger lemon.
Collecting honey was quite dangerous though. This is because we don’t keep bees here. We take beehives from trees and get honey directly from them. I found a book I borrowed from Nowald-sensei called “Sleeping Incense”, and I use the method there to collect beehives. Originally, it was an incense to put monsters to sleep, but it also worked well for bees.
Of course, the ginger is grown in the fields.
“It’s delicious and warming. There are really so many magical things on this island.”
“I’m glad you liked it.”
After sipping a drink and settling in, Emma changed the subject.
“I’m here today to officially sign a contract with you.”
“Really?”
“Mmm. Yesterday, I had a jar of pears and apple. I can’t believe it, but it really wasn’t spoiled at all!”
Emma excitedly recounted,
“I had the captain, a friend of mine, come over when I opened it. He was surprised too. He has a sweet tooth, so he really liked it.”
“So….…”
“Yes, I’m going to officially buy a bottle of compote. Since it can last six months, it is perfect for taking on a long voyage. The captain was also delighted because it could make the trip more enjoyable.”
“Is it okay if I just use pears and apples? I feel like I could make something else too though.…”
I muttered, and at that moment, Lynn came out of the kitchen. It seems that she has been interested in this matter for a long time.
“You can make chestnuts boiled in syrup!”
“Oh~, that sounds delicious, too!”
Emma is also enthusiastic. This is where I suddenly come up with an idea.
“In short, you want preserved food, right?”
“That’s right. I want delicious preserved food.”
If so, I think that one might be a good thing as well.
“Lynn, can you make confit?”
“Who do you think I am? I can make you the best duck confit!”
Confit is a dish in which ingredients are slowly simmered in low-temperature oil. Typical examples include duck confit. Originally, it was a preserved food, but if you fill the sterilized jars with oil so that air does not enter, the shelf life will be further extended.
“Emma, what do you think? We can make not only desserts but also main dishes.”
“I think it will definitely sell!”
Suddenly, the status screen opened. Also, something seems to have changed.
| Building of Food Processing Plant |
| Congratulations! Some of the unlock conditions had been lifted! Condition: Conclude a contract with a merchant to export island products (Completed) Secure two employees (Not Completed) Required points: 7 |
The food processing plant seems to be equipped with a cauldron for boiling and sterilization, as well as various equipment.
I’d like to make it right away, but I have to secure employees first. Each of the islanders has a job, so no one is free at the moment.
It seems that I still have to wait and see.
While we were discussing the number of deliveries, the delivery of bottles and wooden boxes, and so on, it became completely dark outside.
Emma decided to stay at our auberge tonight.
“Would you like to eat dinner first, or do you want to dip in the hot springs first?”
“I’m going to have a meal after freshening up. I’m really looking forward to Lynn’s cooking.”
“Alright. I’ll send you to the bath.”
It was already so cold outside that I couldn’t let go of my jacket. But Emma stands there in amazement, as if she has forgotten the cold.
“This is….…”
This is because the night road, which was supposed to be dark, was flooded with warm mellow light.
“It’s a streetlamp made of magic lanterns.”
Streetlamps are installed every 15 meters to illuminate the road at night.
I mean, it’s brighter than Lebon’s main street.
The streetlamps were selected from a list of objects that could be installed on the sideroad and installed by me. There were 3 consumption points per lamp, and I gradually increased them so that there were no dark spots from the bridge to the cottage, from the cottage to the auberge, and from the auberge to the hot springs.
“I’m surprised. I didn’t see anything like this when I came here before.”
“I made it so that you can go to the hot springs at night with peace of mind. The open-air bath while looking at the starry sky is also good.”
“Gandalcia surprises me every time I visit.”
There’s still a long way to go.
I murmured to myself.
My Island Maker is still in its infancy.
