The reason why their number is small is probably because many were sacrificed along the way. Moreover, they appeared to have struggled greatly as they were clearly in tatters.

Her soldiers followed.
The sand bandits were agitated but desperately tried to fight back, but the battle was settled quickly.
As expected, they must have been exhausted after crossing this far without any guidance. On the other hand, thanks to Eleonore’s grasp of the route and traps, we hardly used up our strength.
However, their leader was nowhere to be seen.
“Answer me, where did Kaim go?”
“……B-boss is in the next room.”
“As expected…… he is after the cursed weapon!”
