Three days after leaving the barony—where so much had happened—we arrived just before noon at the Viscount’s territory, a waypoint on the way to the Northern Margrave’s domain.
““It’s so big!””
“Both of you, don’t lean out too far or you’ll fall from the carriage.”
““Okaaay!””
As we drew closer to the viscount’s lands, a vast lake spread out along the roadside. Sunlight sparkled on the water’s surface, and fishing boats could be seen at work, creating a truly enchanting scene.
Fran and Horn leaned eagerly out of the carriage, completely fascinated by the huge lake. Of course, it was dangerous, so I held on to the two of them to keep them steady. The other passengers watched their excitement with warm smiles.
“Ho ho ho. Little ladies, you can even go fishing in this lake, you know.”
““Ooooh, we wanna go fishing!””
When an old man among the passengers told them fishing was possible, Fran and Horn’s excitement grew even more.
After all the hardships back in the barony, maybe a bit of fun here would be good for them.
And so, just like that, we arrived at the carriage stop in the Viscount’s territory.
“Oh~, there are so many people.”
““It’s crowded!””
“Well, with a lake that big, it’s a tourist spot. Let’s hold hands so we don’t get separated.”
“““Okaaay!”””
From the carriage stop, we could already see crowds of people walking about. To make sure no one got lost, we all held hands as we walked.
The coachman had told us that if we just followed the signs, we’d reach the lake.
But first, it’s time for lunch.
“Looks like there are restaurants serving fish dishes.”
“I wanna eat fish!”
“Me too!”
Horn added.
“Alright then, let’s go into one of the places with a sign out front.”
““Yaaay!””
We chose a diner with an open terrace for our meal.
“Here you go. Your grilled fish set meals.”
“““It smells so good~. Mm, it looks delicious!”””
What they brought out was the local specialty—grilled fish served with bread on the side. Without waiting, Shiro and the others eagerly began breaking apart their fish and eating.
“““Delicious!”””
“That’s good to hear. Eat slowly and enjoy it.”
The fish was so fresh that even though it was only grilled with a bit of salt, it tasted amazing. Shiro and the others devoured theirs happily, while Sue ate hers at a calmer pace, smiling at the three of them.
I shared some of mine with Ao, who ate it with an especially satisfied look.
“Oh, it’s been a while since we’ve had a proper good meal.”
“Agreed. It was a simple dish, but the flavor of the ingredients really stood out.”
“““Yes! We’re satisfied too!”””
We sipped tea after the meal, chatting together. The fish had been cooked to perfection—not raw, not overdone, just right. No wonder this place was thriving.
“After this, we’re going to the fishing experience spot. You’re not tired of fish yet, are you?”
“““We wanna eat more!”””
“Yeah, I thought so.”
When the food is this good, you can always make room for more. Shiro and the others were clearly still raring to go.
