Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

Chapter 102: Departure

After we got home, we spent the next six days like usual. Following the usual schedule, we worked on the production, hunting, eating etc. Thus we made a week’s worth of deliverables as usual. I could have worked on the production efficiently but I don’t have to do that unless it’s necessary.

Though I was once away from home for a certain period of time before, everyone’s reaction to that is just like their father is going on a business trip. They are not particularly worried about me.

Morning of the delivery day,

After we loaded the deliverables like usual, I also pack the hammer I habitually use, some dried meat just in case, and a piece of cloth (sterilized by boiling) to be used as a bandage in my usual bag. Those are in preparation for my departure after the delivery. More or less, it will covered by the other party. …In my previous world, it comes with a meal fee, transportation expenses and accommodation fee. That said, the level is completely different. As for the appearance fee, I hope I can negotiate directly with the other party which is Marius.

We then head to the town like how we normally do. We proceed while being vigilant inside the forest and on the main road. And as usual, we were able to arrive at Camilo’s shop without any problems. Nothing special happens each time (well, we do come across a deer or a wild boar but they quickly run away or move out of our way, we did encounter a caravan on the road too). Even so, we should always be vigilant because as soon as we neglect to do so, problems will definitely occur.

After we arrived at Camilo’s shop, the procedure is basically the same as usual. Well, at least the process of confirming our delivery and our purchase are the same. Since I’ll be going on a trip this time, we will not come for the next delivery so the big difference is that the amount of our purchase will be for two weeks instead of one week. After all that exchange, it’s time for the departure.

As for the horse and clay, it will be settled in another time. It will probably be two weeks at the earliest. In any case, it’s not something that I needed now. As for the clay we have on stock, he told me to use it in making knife mein** so it should last for a while. And in the unlikely event that it runs out, I’m told that normal knife will do.

(TLYN: I just literally translated it as I’m not sure, ナイフメイン – knife mein, please do comment if you know =))

“Well then, let’s go.”

Camilo urges when the conversation is over.

“Alright. Let’s go.”

All of us left the room and then we head to the warehouse. In front of our cart loaded with our luggage, there is the wagon from Camilo’s store with two horses in front of it, our cart is connected at the back.

“My wagon will pull you guys halfway. I’ll be loading a decent amount of luggage on my way home from the Capital so it will be fine with just this much.”

Since he said so, I did not hesitate and I took his words for it. We all got into our own cart. Shortly after, the wagon we are connected to departs. Although it is rattling and shaking, we slowly proceed through the town with a much higher line of sight than usual. Rather than because it’s heavy, the reason why the wagon is not moving that fast yet is because we are still inside the town so it would be dangerous if we speed up.

“As expected, it’s convenient if a horse pulls it.”

“Right”

I said that while looking at the changing townscape and Rike replied back to me. After I told Camilo that I am going to procure a horse, I realized that I had forgotten to bring up the matter about the coachman. Thankfully, it seems that Rike could handle it to some extent. She told me that her family use a fairly large wagon when going to the workshop and that Rike acted as a coachman once in a while. It seems that she took care of the horses at their home too.

Thinking about it, if several families were all working together in the smithy, there would be a certain number of deliveries and no matter how powerful the dwarves were, it would be inefficient for them to pull a cart by themselves. It would be more natural to use wagons. So, even if the horse arrives, it seems that I don’t have to panic for the time being.

When we are leaving the town, we waved and greeted the guard we are acquainted with, he waved over to us as well. He is not using a halberd today as well. Perhaps because of the matter with the subjugation team, Marius doesn’t have much time to get around to it. Combined with that, I would like to actively cooperate and get the job done so that I can come home quickly.

The speed of the wagon increases as we reach the main road. There are no sharp curves here so the speed is faster than I expected. At least much faster than walking speed.

I think it was faster because the last time I rode it coming back from the Capital, the load was mostly just me (and Dianna), but even if it is now considerably heavier than that, we can proceed faster regardless. I don’t think we could go this fast inside the forest but it would still be easier and quicker. I wish I had introduced the horse earlier.

We arrived at the entrance of the forest much earlier than usual. This is where I’ll say goodbye to my family. After reconfirming our plans for the next week or so, we gave each other a quick hug and then I said “I’m going now”. Well, it’s not like we’re parting for good. I then get inside Camilo’s wagon, which had been separated from our own, and when I looked back, I saw everyone seeing us off at the entrance to the forest so I waved lightly.

With a much lighter weight, the horses energetically gallops along the road towards the Capital. When we came back from the capital, we had only one horse because we didn’t have much luggage, but this time, perhaps because we had two horses, it feels like we are moving faster than that time. The scenery I saw before (on our way back) was a little more exciting.

And then while I’m looking at the view of the outer wall of the Capital and the mountains rising like a larger wall beyond it, which I thought I might never see again, I entered the Capital once again.

Chapter 90: Muddy Crow

After confirming the safety inside the fort, one of the cavalrymen that Bridgette-san had taken with her came out of the main gate and reported to Astina-denka.

“Grass. We will now talk to General Alejandro. Despite our victory, most of the enemy soldiers remained unharmed. Rather than striking a proposal that is beneficial to us, I would like to see how it goes out first.”

“Understood. Uhm, Your Highness… would it be alright if we also watch the negotiation? We will use magic for them not to notice our presence.”

As I suggested that, Her Highness paused for a moment ―it’s rare that she hesitates about something. I can feel her tension here as well.

“……Will you be able to neutralize the enemy soldiers whenever possible? We are talking about their camp located in the center. If the enemy soldiers are stationed in a position where you can see them, it’s best good to be on your guard.”

“Ye-……, Understood. I’ll definitely do it.”

“Grass…I’m sorry. Pardon me for putting you, a military doctor, in danger. Do count on Presha and please do not overdo it.”

Her Highness enters the fort with the 16 knight guards that she directly supervised and eight cavalry followed them inside ―a total of 128 people were with her. Raquel-san was tasked with maintaining the siege. She’s watching the situation on top of the big horse so as not to overlook the movement of the enemy. Presha-san also temporarily left her horse to her subordinate on the main unit and then she walks back to us. She readied her spear and her eyes become sharper.

“…Sensei, don’t worry. I’m now different from what I used to be… Thanks to Sensei I was able to change.”

“Un, I’m not nervous. I do think that you are very reliable.”

“Uh… I-Is that so? Sensei, for some reason you suddenly became calm huh. You were always nervous and easily flustered a little while back you see.”

“Ah… n-no, I apologize if it feels like I’m being self-important, I just honestly said what I was thinking.”

“That what you “honestly thought” is a problem for me and Leslie… we both have a hard time with it you see.”

“…I’m already used to it though.”

I’m curious about what they were talking about but if I inadvertently bring it up, it will likely bring unnecessary trouble for myself. Right now I have to focus on what we have to do.

“Presha-san, I was able to talk to Her Highness through our contract with the sacred tree. We will also enter the fort and do something to prevent putting Her Highness and the others in danger. It is undeniable that the enemy may make a move while Her Highness is talking to the enemy general.”

“If they could drag everyone out of the fort… I guess that’s how they’ll resist huh. We will not be killed that easily but we have to avoid the fight between our forces as much as possible.”

“I believe that’s also what Her Highness think so. Leslie, I’ll leave the magic to erase our presence to you.”

“Un, got it. Oh spirit of the air, Earia… change the air that surrounds us and cut off all signs of our presence!”

Leslie’s power is unmatched in this infiltration mission. We became “unrecognizable even if we are there”. We passed through the broken main gate of the fort without anyone noticing us.

First, we move to a place where there are no other people nearby ―in front of the tent in the center of the camp where Her Highness and the others headed to, the enemy soldiers and the knights on our side are glaring at each other. The enemy soldiers who let go of their weapons stand in front of the armed cavalry. I sympathize with their mental state but they would have asked us to do the same if they seized our fortress.

“Chloe-san’s troops are on the northern hill. We don’t have to worry about the top of the north wall… There are two lookouts in the west and east of the camp though.”

“Understood, let’s immobilize the lookouts… Noin?”

“…If Alejandro were to do something… it doesn’t matter even if he throws his subordinates away… This fort will…”

Noin’s eyes seemed to be looking at somewhere else, not at the sight in front of her. Did Alejandro inflict so much hatred on her? Or, is it the anxiety of approaching the person who she once followed?

“Noin, do you have some idea on how General Alejandro will come out of this?”

“I…I’m sorry ….I have to get over that man but…”

“…It’s okay. We already came this far, we will never let the enemy general do what he wants you know.”

Leslie holds Noin’s hand. Then she wipes the sweat around her neck ―Noin grasps back Leslie’s hand and the trembling of her body calms down a little.

“… Alejandro will surely do something. We have to reduce his pieces as much as possible.”

“Alright, let’s go to the watchtower on the east side first. I can knock down the soldiers on the watchtower with my spear but, what should we do?”

“I’m here for times like this. Leslie, get your air ball ready.”

Right now, Her Highness, accompanied by her subordinates, entered the tent where Alejandro was supposed to be waiting ―while we are placed hidden from the enemy’s view, I summoned Arlaune and then we approached the watchtower on the east side.

Leslie’s air balls are filled with Arlaune’s hypnotic pollen ―trying to affect the entire fort will shorten its duration and quickly deplete my magical powers. However, it is not that hard to hypnotize a single person.

“Summoner-sama, I already hypnotized the person above us.”

“Well done Laune. Leslie, can you take care of Laune for me?”

“Grass-sensei, I’ll carry you on my back and then we’ll go up at once. It will be faster and we can save Sensei’s physical strength.”

“Y-Yes, I’ll leave it to … uah!”

The next moment, Presha-san already carried me and then she ran up vertically instead of climbing the ladder –this is possible because Leslie’s magic cuts off the sound and signs of our presence, but then again, it’s all thanks to her physical strength too. Once again, I am impressed by her strength. There, we found the soldier on the lookout sitting on the floor. When I raised his face, the hypnosis due to the pollen of Arlaune is fully effective.

“If we could do it well, the same method would work for Alejandro…”

“No, this hypnosis only allows a person to answer questions, but it can’t actively make them do what I say. However, the enemy soldiers will most likely no longer obey Alejandro who is no longer able to act as a general.”

“Ah… s-sorry, I was over thinking things…”

“I too thought about the same thing. But above anything else, Her Highness wouldn’t want such magical interference.”

Although hypnosis magic is an insurance to know if the negotiation will fail, there is also a risk to it. In case the enemy soldier covers his mouth and nose with a cloth, it will take some time before it takes effect ―as far as I can see, the soldiers from Zirconia had their mouths covered. The lookout here does not have his mouth covered but it is only temporary as he also has a cloth wrapped around his neck. This only meant that he does cover his mouth.

“I’ll ask you some questions. Is this fort really going to accept the surrender recommendation? Tell me what is your aim by raising the white flag.  What is General Alejandro thinking of doing?”

“…General Alejandro….won’t reveal any plans… to us soldiers…just, for us to find…”

“Find…? What is it that you need to find?”

“…There are magicians… in the enemy army… As soon as we find those magicians, we either kill or capture them…”

A chill run all over my body ―realizing our existence, Alejandro has clearly turned his murderous impulse towards us. If he just realized that Noin is on this side, he wouldn’t say “magicians”. It’s possible that he sensed not only Noin’s but also mine and Leslie’s presence as well.

“Sensei, I’ll look around from the watchtower. If you still have something you want to hear, ask him the question.”

The soldier spoke about a “plan” ―that he personally thinks Alejandro is going to do. We don’t have much time. What should be the best questions here ―what should I ask?

“Is there an adjutant that General Alejandro trusts?”

“…Richard, the thousand man chief… Originally, he was the one who commanded this camp, but as the general commander of the Lezenia Invasion Army, General Alejandro became his superior….”

Should I hypnotize that person named Richard? ―No, it won’t work as it would take too long.

“―Grass”

At that moment I heard Astina-denka’s voice. She was supposed to be in the middle of the talk with General Alejandro but she dared to speak to me.

“The person we are looking at… he calls himself Alejandro but…, although he says that he will surrender, he also carelessly asks for a concession. There is a sense of incongruity in him, as if he talks as directed by someone rather than his own will.”

Her Highness Astina’s words lead to one deduction―if that is correct, we don’t have time to spare.

“Does General Alejandro have any distinct facial features?”

“…His white hair stands out… he also looks tall and slender… has a well-trained body… There is an old scar on his cheeks. His age… he is less than thirty… the youngest of the generals…”

“―Your Highness, are there any scar on the cheeks of the person in front of you?”

“Scar…? Yes, there were traces of treatment on it, perhaps he was injured a little while back.”

This soldier said it was an old scar but Her Highness says it’s a new scar ―that inconsistency only means one thing.

“―Your Highness, the person in front of you is not General Alejandro, there’s a possibility that he is a double!”

“Uh…Everyone, get out of this tent! The soldiers outside too, quickly!”

Her Highness shouts ―the next moment, something that shouldn’t occur happened.

“w-what in…!?”

The roaring sound is deafening. The impact even shakes the air ―then the smell of gunpowder permeated my nose.

“Those guys… don’t tell me… Her Highness…!”

“The one who met up with Her Highness wasn’t Alejandro but a fake… I wish I could have noticed earlier…!”

Noin’s mutter flashed through my mind. Even if his subordinate’s life were thrown away, he tries to prevent the “fall” of this fort –we didn’t consider that there really were people who would use such measure.

I look at the central camp from the watch tower. At that moment, Her Highness also escapes outside, Her Highness’ subordinates outside were already controlling the enemy soldiers around them. However, the situation is still unpredictable.

“Your Highness, escape from the fort! The enemy is trying to take advantage of the turmoil and defeat you, Your Highness!”

“…Don’t worry about me Grass. I thought Alejandro also had the pride of being a knight. However, it wasn’t the case.”

An arrow flies toward the central camp –but,

“―Haaa!”

Her Highness knocks it all down with a flash of her sword. It’s as if she could predict all the directions of the flying arrows.

“Cavalry, spread out and conquer the fort! The main unit will continue to siege so as not to let the enemy general escape. Tell Raquel to rush in. Chloe’s unit should block the escape route in the north side and from the wall, shoot them with the arrows!”

The cavalry under the direct control of Her Highness begin to move –Raquel-san’s unit, who rushed in from the main gate, pushed forward while wiping out what they see, as if to defeat the fighting spirit of the remaining soldiers.

“Presha-san, let’s move too… uh, Presha-san?”

Presha-san stayed put as she stared in one direction. When I look in the same direction where she’s looking at, there was a knight wearing a cloak while straddling a bluish dapple-gray horse.

“…white hair… that… he’s the real Alejandro…!”

“Presha-san…!”

“I’ll defeat him Sensei… That way, the fight will be over. So I…!”

Presha-san descends from the watchtower with a spear in her hand –she then rushes towards Alejandro while knocking down the enemy soldiers standing her way. The enemy soldiers who once let go of their weapons tried to fight with the ones at hand but that doesn’t stop Presha-san.

“Grass-nii…”

“Grass-sama, let me defeat Alejandro! That man, without that man I…”

As soon as I got off the watchtower, Noin said that –I chanted “Green healing” to calm her mind.

“Right now it’s safe to cut our way through this place. We can’t leave Presha-san alone… However, even though most of the enemy soldiers in this fort are deprived of arms, it’s not a good idea to fight head-on.”

“…I want to protect Glass-sama. But… with me like this, I…”

“Don’t overdo it Noin-san. I will protect the both of you.”

“I know you hate Alejandro but you are not fighting alone. Don’t forget that.”

Noin replied with a nod –she then pulls out her self-defense dagger. Leslie too, compared to me, she’s more on the self-defense, still, we must avoid engaging in battle.

“Did you lose your pride as a knight!? There is nothing you can get by abandoning your allies, why do you not understand…!”

I can hear Raquel-san’s voice. Hiding gunpowder in the center of the camp and exploding it –the fake General Alejandro including the enemy soldiers who accompanied him, probably died in an instant. Her Highness too couldn’t stay safe if she was late to escape. Still, the white crow’s plot was prevented ―it did not go according to his wishes.

“―My name is Presha Hortensia! If you are a proud knight, let’s have a match, General Alejandro!”

When Presha-san reaches Alejandro, she jumps and swings down her long spear towards him―he parries it with his longsword held in both hands and then Alejandro repels Presha-san’s strike.

“Kuu…!”

“Pride isn’t as valuable as a victory sipped from a muddy water. Brave little knight, I will deal with you once and for all.”

If he is thinking about running away when his plan did not come into fruition, he wouldn’t admit that he is indeed Alejandro –however, he accepted the match against Presha-san’s. He’s not just a man who makes strategies. Alejandro also has absolute confidence in his abilities as a knight.

“Though you are speaking of that from such a high place, this “little knight” will definitely defeat you!”

Presha-san holds her spear. Alejandro also holds his longsword and he looks down on her from his horse –his eyes were not at all guarded.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 62: Dinner at the Frederia Residence

Since I will be staying at the house of Erna’s parents, I decided to do some information gathering in the city for the time being. Of course, Erna is with me.

“Shinichi, let’s go back to the mansion …”

“What are we going to do if we go back there now? The sun is still high up in the sky, besides it will be useful if I investigate the current state of affair in this kingdom.”

Erna is hiding behind me. It seems like she is afraid to meet an acquaintance. Well, it’s not that I don’t understand that feeling. I too was afraid to encounter an acquaintance during that time when I became a homeless. The sight of “that” Shinichi Tanaka reduced to poverty and being laughed at flashed through my mind. However, reality is often different from what you imagine. Nobody cares about me and what happens to me doesn’t matter to them at all. That is the reality. And that is how the society is.

However, that’s where me and Erna differ from each other. In her case, it is not a downfall. She returned to her hometown with a strength to prove herself superior. All she has to do is wave her hand and grandly inform them of her return.

“Be more imposing. Are you not a special-ranked mage? Or, is it that you are not going to be a great mage anymore?”

“I’ll become one! I’m going to be a great mage!”

Erna jumps out in front of me and replied in a loud voice. As a result, the people around us saw Erna and they started talking about her.

“Isn’t that the failure child of the Frederia family? If I’m not mistaken, I heard that she can only use a beginner magic but…”

“For being a failure she dared to come back huh. But, why is she dressed as a special-ranked mage?”

“Well, although she’s a failure child of a distinguished family, she comes back often. She can’t hold a candle to Melissa-sama and Clara-sama though.”

I can hear the noisily gossiping voices in the city. Somehow I figured out why Erna left this kingdom.

“A…uh-…”

Erna, who has a good hearing, can also hear all those voices. No, the citizens of this city are deliberately having a conversation about her. Born into a well-known mage’s family, Erna may have been expected to be a talented one by the people of this kingdom. However she couldn’t live up to that expectation. So gradually, the people turned that pity into anger and contempt, and then they attacked her as if Erna’s lack of talent was a sin. So in the end, Erna left this kingdom. Thus it was only natural for her to stay away from her hometown.

I felt anger towards the citizens of this kingdom. I want to show those who are talking to each other how strong Erna is as a mage. I want them to feel guilty and offer her an apology. I talk to Erna in a voice that could be heard all over the city.

“Erna defeated more than a hundred dragoneuts of the empire! And the extraordinary magic you casted on Bezel, one of the Empire’s royalty was awesome! Perhaps even in the next hundred years, the empire will never forget Erna Frederia of Sanargia Great Forest Kingdom! Ah-, I really envy Sanargia for that!”

“S-Shinichi?”

Erna was perplexed by my sudden remark. The residents of the city who heard that story noisily talked to each other. It is now different from before, it appears that they were dumbfounded hearing that Erna has defeated more than a hundred dragoneuts.

I spoke a little exaggeratedly but the outcome of the battle was not a lie. Well, I also used my dictatorship skill. Dictatorship is about catching people’s hearts. My words would move the hearts of many. And yeah, the effect was immediate.

“Erna-sama! You really were a wonderful person! Let me apologize for what I said so far!”

“Erna-sama is indeed a promising lady of Sanargia! I apologize for the misunderstanding all this time!”

“As expected of Erna-sama of the Frederia family! I’ve always believed that you are a great person!”

The citizens gather around Erna. They praised her and offered her an apology. I borrowed the power of the skill but I am satisfied that it all came back to the proper place.

“That’s a lie!”

There came an angry voice that I and the citizens turned to look at it. The source of that voice was a group of five women.

“Erna is a failure mage who can only use beginner magic! We, as her classmates know that well!”

One out of the five of them, a woman with short brown hair in a natural perm, was pointing at Erna with unconcealed anger on her face. I can tell that she is an advanced ranked mage as she’s wearing a red robe. The other four also wore either red or orange mage robes.

“I’m already a special-ranked mage! I can use a special-grade magic properly!”

Erna came forward and then she replied back to the five women. The five of them instantaneously jeered at her as if they were waiting for it.

“Then try using magic! What? Is that get-up all a bluff!? Bah! It appears that it’s not possible for you to do it, just lick Feria-sama’s shoes!”

“I’ll show it as you wish! Witness how good my current abilit― h-hey, Shinichi!”

I stopped Erna and I whispered to her to calm down. This is because it seemed like she’s going to use flare zone in the city as it is.

“Calm down. Do you want to use your magic to destroy your hometown?”

“But they are saying that I can’t use magic…”

“Don’t use special magic for the time being. There may be a smarter way than that.”

“Smarter way…? Oh-, that’s what you are saying huh. Understood.”

Erna moves forward again and then she raises her staff and activates magic. Spheres of fire, water, wind, earth, darkness and light appeared around her. They circle and float around Erna. Not only the five women but also the citizens had their mouths in agape as they stared fixedly at the scene.

“I-Impossible… manipulating the six attributes… t-there’s clearly something wrong here!”

“Then, will you try receiving an advanced magic of all six attributes? Will you believe it by then?”

Erna freely manipulates her magic and a fearless smile was shown on her face. I who knew her status know that it wouldn’t be possible. However, those five women didn’t know that so they believed that it was true. They screamed and run away.

When Erna erased the magic, the citizens of the city gave her a round of applause. Well it’s as expected. Because other than Erna, there are no other six-attribute possessor in this Sanargia Great Forest Kingdom. In other words, being one is an extremely rare existence. On top of that, she is also a special-ranked mage. Even if she is not a resident of Sanargia, they would have praised her.

“I… I’m glad I came back …”

“Right?  You don’t have to run away you know.”

I put my hand on Erna’s shoulder and she nodded in assent. Right, there is nothing she needs to be afraid of. She can dignifiedly call herself a mage. If someone stands her way, she can just beat them down.

“Shall we go on then?”

“Yup!”

We walked to the center of the city to gather information.

“It’s such a waste to feed a human but today, I still prepared a special high-quality meat. Think of it as your last supper and savour it well.”

Erna’s father, Lord Frederia, said that with a smirk on his face and a glass of wine in one hand. We are currently eating at the dining room. If possible, I didn’t want to share the same table as her father but I can’t avoid it since I was invited as a guest.

“Thanks to Lord Frederia for his kindness. Then I’d like to have a taste of that fine meat.”

After we ate the appetizer, the next thing that was brought in was a big steak. There’s a sizzling and thick meat dripping a large amount of juice on the iron plate. When I cut it with the knife and put it in my mouth, I can’t help but groan at its softness. It is as delicious as A5 rank beef.

“How is it? It’s delicious right? It’s the beef of the phantom sweet cattle that Sanargia Great Forest Kingdom is proud of. When you put it in your mouth, the fat melts on your tongue and the sweetness and umami enhance the deliciousness of the meat many times. It’s a high-class meat that ordinary people like you can’t even dream of eating in your whole life.”

Lord Frederia persistently tries to mock me. On the contrary, Lady Frederia is having a meal while having a pleasant conversation with Erna. Erna’s two other sisters also came to this place so a total of six people, including me and her father, surround the table.

“I’m surprised that Erna brought a man with her. She’s usually very timid so I thought she’ll be a late bloomer in that aspect.”

It was Melissa, the eldest daughter, who chuckled after saying that. She had her long blonde hair tied back and she is wearing a pink dress that emphasizes her cleavage. As expected, she is very beautiful like her mother.

“Still, the man that Erna-oneechan brought is so cool. He is not an elf but he is much more handsome compared to an elf, right?”

It was Clara, the third daughter, who talks while glancing at me. She had her blonde hair styled in a ponytail and she is wearing a yellow dress. It’s best to say that her appearance looks cute. She has this impression that she is yet to be a grown-up.

I obliquely opened the eye on my forehead. This is paradise. Those well-shaped breasts are irresistible. Mufufu.

“Hey, are you listening!? Quickly drink the soup!”

“…Hn? Oh right, it won’t taste good if it gets cold.”

I drink the soup. Lord Frederia grinned when he saw that.

“I got you! That soup is filled with numbness medicine! With that, I’ll win by default in tomorrow’s duel! It’s my win haha!”

Her father looks happy, saying, “Ye―s, ye―s! You fall for it―! Se―rves you r―ight!”. I ignored him and I proceed to savour the soup instead. Aside from that numbness medicine, the soup is quite delicious. Erna sighs as if she was fed up seeing the situation between her father and me.

“Father, poison doesn’t work on Shinichi. He is that composed because he was once poisoned by a mother wrapping spider before. I don’t think that the numbness medicine will do anything to him.”

“Whaaat!? He should have died from the poison of a mother wrapping spider! That’s impossible! That is a deadly poison that can kill a person in just a few minutes!”

“That’s why I’m saying that it won’t work on him!”

Her father makes a fuss as he loudly complains. This house seems to be quite lively. I feel like I somehow understand why Erna is honest and cheerful. However, I cannot overlook that he added that numbness medicine. I’ll pay him back for this numbness.

I paralyzed Lord Frederia with the paralyzing eye.

“Abababa …”

“Father!?”

Erna immediately tend to him as he falls over. It’s just paralysis so he will be able to move in a few minutes or so. If it had a lethal dose of a poison, it wouldn’t have ended with just that.

“Please pardon my husband. He has always hated humans you see.”

The Lady apologetically talked to me. I laughed it off and then I replied to her,

“I don’t mind. Or rather, I can’t trust a person who is unconditionally friendly towards me.”

“Fufu, maybe that’s right.”

She is laughing but her eyes are clearly observing me. Rather than her being cautious, it feels like she is deciding what to do to me. Perhaps she is checking if I’m suitable to be her daughter’s comrade.

After finishing the meal, I decided to return to the room designated to me.

Next morning.

Me and Lord Frederia faced each other at the training ground on their premises. Erna and Lady Frederia are standing nearby and they are watching us. I asked Erna to be the referee and I also asked Lady Frederia to serve as a rescuer. I can’t say that there is no possibility that I will inadvertently kill him.

“Since it’s going to be like this, you can do it seriously you know?”

“Such needless concern is unnecessary. I judged that this will be enough.”

The rules are simple.

The only weapon I’m allowed to use is a wooden sword and there are no restrictions on the magic that Lord Frederia can use. The stage is limited to the training ground that is about 20 square metres. The winner is the one who makes the opponent incapable of fighting or the one who went outside of the training ground first.

“It’s a little boring if you give me such preferential treatment so I’ll give you one offer. If you beat me, I’ll grant you one request no matter what that is.”

“That’s alright with me. Then, if I lose, I’ll listen to a request that you like.”

Lord Frederia grins when he hears my reply. It seems that he is thinking about something that is not good again. I don’t know what the request is, but it’s foolish for him to assume that he will win.

“Well then, both of you, please go to your position.”

In response to the referee’s call, we move to the predetermined position. The distance between me and Lord Frederia is 5m. It’s too far to fight with a sword and it’s too close to fight with magic. As the start of the duel is approaching, the tension also increased.

Erna raises her hand and she paused for a few seconds. And then she swings down her hand at once.

“Start!!”

The duel begins.

Chapter 101: Probing

“Well then, this time, this is just between us but,”

As Camilo said that, his voice became a little softer. We then leaned forward.

“I think you already predicted this to some extent, the need for such a large number of swords means that many soldiers are on the move.”

“Un, I guessed so…”

That is indeed the case huh. Even if I say that Camilo is only extensively running his business, a situation where 40 longswords are suddenly needed only means that the soldiers are making a move somewhere, regardless of whether it is the national military or a private army.

“And given that, though I don’t think that there will be any problems with the sword you brought, the buyer of those longswords asked me to tell you to serve in the military if possible.”

“Hmm”

“Although it is a military service, there is almost no danger because you will be accompanying the supply unit in the rear.”

“Then, is my main job to repair at the destination they are moving to?”

“As expected, you immediately get what I mean. That’s right.”

“For how long?”

“It’s about 9 days or so at the longest. It will take 3 days going there, then you’ll work for 3 days and then the travel time going back would also took 3 days. If it’s done in 1 day, you can come back in a week time.”

“Hmm……”

If that’s the case it would be okay to leave the house to the three of them and be away for that long. Well, as for the problem with their meal, they’ll solve it somehow. I wouldn’t be able to take all three of them, and I can’t take only one of them either. I don’t want to leave just one person at home so the option of taking two people with me is out of the question. In that case, it would be better for me to go alone.

“Would it be okay if I go alone? Do I need an assistant or something?”

“No, there’s no need to because the supply unit is one group. Meals and other things are done by dedicated personnel and so is the setting up of the tents. Although it will be open-air, Eizou’s job is to set up the fire bed and the anvil.”

“I see. Then, all I really need to do is follow them around and fix their items huh.”

“Yeah”

“Last question, where does the army belong to and what are they going to do?”

“Let me answer what they are going to do first. It’s a monster subjugation expedition.”

“It’s not a war?”

“Sometimes there are skirmishes, but there is currently no battle in this country where we have to send some troops and pull out more than 40 people. Next, where they belong right?”

Camilo made a short pause there.

“It’s Count Eimurl’s. The king has entrusted some soldiers to him and he was asked to go there and form a subjugation team.”

I could see Diana gasping a little. I see. It was Marius huh……. I’m not saying this to brag, but he knows how capable I am. So of course, he’ll want to take me with him. It is not that hard to see that it would be safer to have someone who knows your family history by your side in case of emergency.

“Count Eimurl’s House was originally a House that got their title and family name after becoming known for subduing monsters and well, there’s the dispute part about their inheritance. The Marquis once said that there’s no problem and something openly problematic never occurred but it would be less likely that he will encounter trouble later if he achieved results here.”

“I see.”

I’m grateful that he explained this matter because it doesn’t reach me, a blacksmith who lives in isolation from the world. And truthfully, I’m not from a noble family. Anyway, Marius is in pinch again huh.

“If that’s the case I will be happy to participate.”

Diana looked a little relieved this time. She’s one of the few people who know that I have good swordsmanship. I guess she feels relieved knowing that I would be there if Marius needs me.

“By the way, when will it start?”

“I heard that you could go straight to the Capital after your delivery next week. I’ll be sending you there with my wagon.”

“Is that so? I thought it would be more urgent.”

I thought in worst case, I would be asked to set off today.

“Well, there will be something like group organization and minimum training.”

“Oh-, that’s right.”

Marius is also at a platoon level so he probably has little experience in commanding. Even if he has been preparing for a while, it’s always better to go with a good preparation unless it’s very urgent.

And since the monster subjugation is not that urgent, the soldiers who have been sent to him are probably almost like recruits. If all goes well, he can take some nobles with experience in leadership and soldiers with practical experience. And in the worst case, it will come to an extent that the country will be reorganized. In that case, it would be a hard blow for the Eimurl House.

“Well, I understand the story. I’ll be ready.”

Basically, my mission is of course, to repair their items while I’m in military service. However, the mission behind it is to bring Marius back safely. I think there are times when that can’t be helped, but even in that case, I would like to make it my top priority to bring him back safely as much as possible. To do this, the soldiers need to be fully equipped. It should be also in the category of general model as much as possible. The high-end model has some magical elements involved and it takes time for me to do it.

Around the time we are done with the conversation about the military service, Clerk-san returned with a pouch in his hand.

“Are you sure you want to buy the same things as usual?”

“Yeah. I want you to prepare for two weeks worth of those next week though.”

“Got it. Then, today’s payment is this.”

Camilo gives me the pouch that Clerk-san brought. It was heavy when I hold it, so I checked it and I found out that even if I subtracted the amount of the items I bought today, it is still way too much for 55 longswords.

“Isn’t this too much?”

“It includes the fee for rushing you and it also contains the inconvenience fee he gave you for “that time”. Don’t worry about it because it’s something that you are supposed to receive.”

A fee for hurrying me and for that time when I forged the heirloom huh. It would become complicated again if I return this.

“Understood, thank you.”

I received the pouch and then we left Camilo’s store.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 61: Sanargia Great Forest Kingdom

The black unicorns gallop through the mountain road surrounded by trees. The magical beasts that targeted us could not keep up with the speed and those unlucky ones were trampled to death. From time to time, the passing travellers look at our unicorns with curious gazes. Well, that’s probably because they have never seen a black unicorn.

When we head to the Elf Kingdom, we also met a group of bandit. They numbered to about thirty people. The smell of a magical incense drifts from all over their body and they also wore the fur of a magical beast like that of a hunter. They blocked our way and demanded that I hand over Erna, the money we have and the unicorns. Well, with them like that, I gave them the small dragon breath’s flame as present. When a few of them were burned to death, they turned blue and they hastily fled. I decided to hurry ahead instead of chasing them.

Then, on the third day after we left Mana, we finally arrived at Zara, the capital of Sanargia Forest Kingdom.

“What you can see over there is Zara, the Forest Kingdom’s Capital. There is a sacred tree in the center of the city.”

We are overlooking the forest from the top of the hill. There is a big city in the direction that Erna pointed out. A huge tree can also be seen in the center. The enormous tree was so big that even from here, I could feel its overwhelming presence.

“How old is the sacred tree?”

“Hmm, I heard that it’s been alive for 100,000 years…”

“100,000 years !?”

I was shocked at the unbelievable age of the tree. Indeed, it should be called a sacred tree for living that long. As expected from a different world. It already broke my common sense many times.

We then ride the unicorns towards the city. We passed many people on the road as we approached the city. Most of them have long ears and they all have well-outlined features. It seems that elven race is a race of beautiful men and women.

“We are about to enter the city.”

In the direction of our travel, there is a white outer wall with an entrance resembling the Arc de Triomphe and a large number of people were crowded there. At the entrance, as many as five knights with a spear in one hand observe the passers-by. I got off the unicorn before I’m stopped by the knights. I decided to talk to them myself.

“We are travellers but, is it okay to take the unicorns inside the city?”

“I’ve never seen a black unicorn before… Well, if you can promise that they won’t run amok inside the city, I’ll allow it.”

“Thank you”

Aside from the unicorns, it appears that I am not treated as a suspicious person. Feeling relieved, we tried to enter the city but the soldier stopped us again.

“Wait a minute. You there… are you perhaps Erna?”

“N-No, you are mistaken. It’s just your imagination.”

Erna pulled the pointed hat she’s wearing on top of her head deeply. However, the soldier went around and called out to her happily.

“It’s me! Did you forget me!? Look, it’s Kevin, your next door neighbour!”

“Eh? Kevin?”

Erna looks up at the knight. Erna’s smiled broadly as soon as she confirmed that he is her friend.

“It’s been a long time! You look like you’re doing well!?”

“Yeah, as you can see, I got a job in the military. Even so, Erna has changed. You are now a special-grade mage, and you look even more beautiful than you used to be.”

“I-Is that so? I don’t think that my appearance changed but I believe that my magical ability has changed a lot since then.”

Erna replied shyly. On the other hand, the soldier named Kevin had a red face. From the perspective of other elves, Erna’s beautiful appearance is at another level. It would be unavoidable for a young man like him to be nervous. However, when I look at the two of them like that, strangely, it makes me feel irritated.

“Erna, it’s about time to go.”

“Yeah! I’ll get going! See you Kevin!”

Erna rushes to me. After we waved to Kevin, we went inside the city. Zara, the Forest Capital has a white wall and buildings and cobblestones were built from numerous marbles. Statues of women and men are set up everywhere, giving a strong impression of a stunning city.

In particular, the trees that are planted in a planned manner are fused with the city, and the sunlight shining through the gaps between the branches and leaves of the sacred tree that covers the sky of the city looks mysterious. I was impressed that this was Erna’s hometown.

“… By the way, who is Kevin?”

“Ah-, he’s my childhood friend and he lives in the neighbourhood. We used to play a lot together.”

“Hoh-, a childhood friend huh.”

“Yeah. I totally stopped staying in contact but I was relieved because he looks fine.”

Erna was grinning and she looks pleased. But more than that, I was worried about the gaze that was directed here. I could feel a hateful gaze toward Erna from somewhere. As I looked around, I found a group of five women looking into this area from the shadow of the building. All of them are beautiful elves, but their faces are distorted by hatred.

They are probably Feria’s companion who bullied Erna before. Then there’s no need to hesitate. I casually used paralyzing eyes on the five of them. They trembled and the five of them collapsed in the shadow of the building. They won’t die, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

“What’s wrong Shinichi?”

“Nothing. Rather than that, how do we meet the important people in this kingdom?”

“Well, you should come to my house. Father and mother are VIP’s in this kingdom.”

“Hoh-, that’s good. Let’s visit there at once.”

“Y-Yeah”, Erna turned red after saying that and she quickly moved forward. As expected, it would be embarrassing to take a man home. However, I can’t say that such a thing apply to the current us.

Reinforcements need to be gathered before the empire can move in earnest. If we don’t get a promise of at least a military cooperation, this job will be a failure. I’ve taken on a completely tedious task.

We decided to go to Erna’s residence.

“This is my parents’ house.”

“It’s big …”

Her parent’s residence is a mansion. The three-story mansion looks like a castle and the garden has a magnificent fountain. The flowers were in full bloom and there are small animals like rabbits that are taking a walk in the lawn without any fear.

“Hey, come in.”

After Erna opened the gate, she casually invites me inside. The gate was also decorated with gold and just looking at it seemed to hurt my eyes. After I entered the place as I was guided, I was surprised at the distance there is before we reach the mansion. After passing through that area in about 20 minutes, we finally arrive at the entrance of the mansion. Even the mansion of our Kingdom’s Duke Medil is not this big. Though I hate to say it, this only shows that Sanargia Great Forest Kingdom is one of those with great power.

“I’m back.”

Erna opens the door and enters the mansion. I also entered the mansion but I did so cautiously.

“Oh……”

The interior of the mansion is magnificent. Various works of art were displayed and a portrait of five people was hung on the front wall. The man has short blonde hair and a beard on his upper-lip. He wore a dark brown robe. The woman looks a lot like Erna and she is very stunning. And as expected, she too was wearing a dark brown robe. There are three girls at their feet and they all resembled Erna. One of them turned out to be Erna herself. It creates an optical illusion of coming to a foreign royal palace.

“Welcome home, Ojou-sama.”

“I’m home Sebastian. What about father and mother?”

“The family head and Madam are both at home. I will call them right away, please wait for them in the reception room.”

“Okay”

An old butler called Sebastian bowed to excuse himself and walked to the inner part of the house. Erna then guided me to their reception room.

“Somehow it’s kind of too spacious and it feels uncomfortable. I guess it’s because I became too used to the hidden room in the dungeon.”

Erna is sitting on the sofa and she appears to be more uneasy than me. I understand her feelings well. This mansion is uselessly too large. Regardless of the merit, this is how a common people felt.

“Erna!”

The door opened and a man came in. He looks exactly like the man depicted in the portrait so he is probably Erna’s father. He hugs Erna who stands up and they rub their cheeks together.

“Aaaah! My cute Erna! You are finally back! I’m so worried about you!”

“Y-Yeah … I’m sorry to worry…”

Erna is a little squeezed, but her father tightly hugs her beloved child to dote on her. I can understand how he feels about his child but I think he’s overdoing it a little.

“By the way… who is that man over there?”

Her father glares at me. His eyes were full of murderous intent.

“He is Shinichi, a party member! It’s all thanks to Shinichi that I became a full-fledged mage!”

“Hn? A full-fledged mage?”

Her father finally seemed to notice the color of Erna’s robe. It is purple in color, she’s undoubtedly dressed as a special-ranked mage.

“H-h-h-how…! Erna is now a special-ranked mage!? At last, my daughter, who was called a failure of a mage, has awakened!”

“The failure part is unnecessary!”

This time, her father looks happy and he lightly jumps up and down. Somehow, he appears to be a person whose facial expression quickly changes. However, when he looks at me again, he points the staff in his hand towards me.

“Thank you for helping my daughter. However, I don’t like a mere human like you next to Erna.”

“Father! Stop!! Shinichi is—“

Before Erna could say anything, I cut up her father’s staff into small pieces using my sword.

“Ha―!? My staff is― ―Uugh!!!?”

In addition to that, I gave a roundhouse kick to her father’s abdomen, which was full of opening. And just like that, he was sent flying and breaks through the door, and then he crashed into the wall on the hallway and collapses.

“Aah―, that’s why I tried to stop…”

Erna seemed disappointed at her father who has collapsed. A mage’s weapon is their staff. Since it is pointed at me, it is the same with me being held at a gunpoint. I don’t know if it was just a threat or an attack, but it’s my principle to reply in kind.

Right, even if it’s my comrade’s father, that applies to everyone.

“I’d like to ask, that thing just now was not an elf-style greeting right?”

“No. Since before, my father would always lose his cool right away. Well, I brought a man so my father probably flared up.”

While saying so, Erna does not go to help her father. It’s like she’s saying, you reap what you sow. He looks a little pitiful.

“Oh my-, you did something stupid again.”

A woman appeared beside her unconscious father. She wears a moss green dress that emphasizes her cleavage and she looks like Erna. She’s probably her mother.

“Mother!”

Erna hugs her mother. The two began talking, ignoring the unconscious father.

“You become more beautiful. And you are now a special-ranked mage. It’s hard to believe that you are called as a failure of a mage before.”

“Stop saying that I’m a failure! However, I really got stronger! I even defeated a pseudo dragon and I also knocked down the March Bulls!”

“Fufu, a maiden in love will really get stronger.”

Her mother turned her gaze on me. Subsequently, Erna’s face turned red.

“I-It’s different! Shinichi isn’t like that!”

“Hoh-, is that so? I’m certain…”

Her mother is smiling and she looks warmly at Erna. Well, Erna is of a marriageable age so she’s probably embarrassed for me to be mistaken as her lover. Even if it was me, if we suddenly talk about such topic, I would feel embarrassed. It’s a very normal reaction.

“Uh… what am I …”

Her father unexpectedly stands up. Then her mother tapped her father’s head with the staff in her hand.

“Did you do something rude to the guest?”

“No! When I pointed my staff, I set it up so that it point to the other side! I’m not that evil!”

“You’re not evil. Please apologize to the guest.”

“Kuu…”

Her father reluctantly approached me and he apologized in a blunt manner.

“Let me apologize for what I did a while ago. ….However, I can’t forgive my precious staff for being such rubbish! For me to be defeated by a human, there’s clearly something wrong! Let’s have a rematch!”

He pointed out his index finger in front of me and his saliva even spatters as he kept on talking without a pause. Apparently, he doesn’t have any intention of apologizing.

“Father, that’s enough! Shinichi is not the kind of opponent that you can win against!”

“I don’t like him more and more! As a mage, I competed for the first or second place in this kingdom and you are saying that I won’t be able to beat a human!? Actually, I’m especially angry that Erna brought a man along!”

Her father seemed to have blown his top as he clearly didn’t listen to what Erna was saying. Moreover, nobody can tell whether the things that he said is really what he meant to say. In short, he just said that he can’t approve that Erna brought me here. He’s a really over-doting parent.

“Understood. How about a duel-style match? I can’t stand killing my comrade’s father you see.”

“Ha-, huh…? A human can kill me? It’s a very funny joke. Alright, we’ll go with that. Let’s put it in a duel style so that I don’t kill you.”

Her father is laughing but blood vessels were evident in his temples. His facial muscles were cramping because of his anger.

“Okay, then let’s have the match tomorrow. For the place, let’s do it in a location that suits your convenience.”

“Very well, I hope you stay at my house today. I’ll feed you a lot of delicious treat.”

Her father glanced at me and then he slowly left the room. Immediately after that, Erna rushed towards to me.

“What do you mean by you’ll have a match against my father? You won’t kill him, right?”

“Don’t worry. It’s only a duel format for that very reason. And did you forget why I came here?”

“Eh?”

“I came here as a representative of the kingdom. I have to show the elves that humans are their equal.”

“Ah, I see. If you convince my father, that might be possible, he is a minister of this Kingdom after all.”

I was startled. I already heard that he is a VIP but it turned out that he is a minister of this kingdom. In that case, isn’t this even more like an opportunity? I’ll just let them know that there are strong humans.

In spite of her father’s words, I decided to stay overnight in their residence.

Chapter 100: Mass delivery

This chapter is sponsored by Logan Kerr. Thank you everyone for your support as always. シ

After that, the production continued smoothly and we made a total of 9 pieces on this day. It seems that the range of over 50 pieces will most certainly be achieved. Conversely, it is unlikely that our production output will exceed 60 pieces. Now I know the upper limit of the number of molds to be made tomorrow. I would say that we should aim for 55 pieces, we should not go over the limit we can handle though.

At dinner that night, our conversation is about singing and Diana showcased her singing voice a little. As a part of their education, it is said that all nobles, regardless of gender, can sing to some extent and they can dance to some extent as well.

Then I, who also have a family name, should be able to sing some of the songs of this world as well. However, that’s not included in the cheat I have and there’s also no information about songs in my installed knowledge. I can’t sing a song from the previous world either. The lyrics of the songs I knew are in Japanese or English at best. Only “Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony” can be sung in German but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s not a language or a song from this world.

Though I felt very apologetic towards Rike and Diana, I decided to say that I’m merely a blacksmith so I can’t sing. I know I’m being unfair so when I get a chance, I’ll learn a song from this world and perform it…..

The next day,

I told the three of them that our final goal is 55 pieces and that there are still 36 more pieces to be made for us to reach the goal. A total of 9 production output are required a day to achieve that. I also told Diana that once she made 36 molds, I would like her to work with Samia to pour melted iron into the molds. Perhaps we’ll have a time to spare on the 6th day, but if that’s the case, it would be better to take some free time. Well, even if it can be done, it will not be half a day I guess.

More or less, it’s certain that if we concentrate on making longswords for the time being, we will be in time so we have to focus on today’s work. The sound of fire and wind echoed softly in the workshop, and then the sound of hammering followed after. I can now hear Rike’s singing voice from time to time, I guess she got over it because she sang yesterday. She has a few songs in her repertoire too.

Originally, when you say work song, you sing to the rhythm of the hammer but instead of that, Rike and I were swinging our hammers to the rhythm of the song. It’s not particularly distracting, and I even feel like I can concentrate better than when I’m working quietly. Even in the previous world, there were those who could concentrate better in silence and those who preferred background music, and I seem to be the latter. We were able to make a total of 10 pieces on this day. Now we have 26 pieces left.

The next day, another 10 pieces were made, and when there were 16 pieces left, the mold creation was also completed. The clay was recyclable, so we were able to get by, but it looks like we need to have some stock soon. If I can find clay in this area, I can collect it there, but since I don’t know where to find one, I’ll have to ask Camilo to get me some fine clay in the meantime. I’ll ask him to prepare it on our next delivery.

The work proceeded the next day and the day after that, then we were able to finish 55 pieces safely. When I think about it, even if I made Diana switch to casting, I and Rike were already working at the maximum speed, so it is unlikely that it will exceed 10 pieces a day. We ended up producing 7 pieces on the sixth day and once we finished the work, we only have a short free time.

It was a lot of work, but once you cleared your goal, it gives a great sense of accomplishment after doing so. In the future, it may be a good idea to set a certain number of hours per week for regular production. Of course, if we have extra time left, we should take a day off. It may be more convenient for Camilo, too. I’ll talk to him about it.

The next day,

After finishing the 55 longswords, it was now time for delivery. With every 10 pieces wrapped in a rough mat, an unprecedented amount of longswords were loaded on the cart. The rest of the process is the same as usual, but the weight is no joke. Even with them in the cart, they felt quite heavy. Fortunately, the wheels don’t sink into the soil. However, at this rate, I’ll have to think twice about carrying more than 55 longswords. Or maybe, we should finally introduce horses.

Although it was slower than usual, we managed to arrive at Camilo’s shop at only a slightly later time. The procedure itself at Camilo’s store is the same as usual. The only difference was that I brought a purchase order with me. I handed the purchase order to Camilo and Clerk-san when they entered the business meeting room.

“It’s a total of 55 longswords. We made them properly.”

Well, I didn’t promise the number separately.

“No, no, Eizou’s works always exceed my expectations.”

Camilo said in a slightly teasing tone so I don’t know how serious he is when he said that.

“How many did you think it was?”

“I’m not underestimating your skill, but it’s not that simple so I was thinking it will be about 40 pieces or so.”

Well, I said it would be six times as much. But, did he estimate it to be about that range in anticipation of the fact that we wouldn’t be able to increase our productivity that much by simply spending more time on it? I am grateful that he thinks that way though.

For example, if he were to say, “Alright, let’s aim for 100 pieces by next week”, we’ll have to work for 8 hours now in that case, and if we work for 16 hours, we can then complete 110 pieces, but thankfully that’s not the case. I’m grateful for a client who knows that part….. We’ll, I have a feeling that it’s like that.

When Camilo glanced at him, Clerk-san nodded back. I think he went to check the number. Even if he trusts me, I would appreciate it if he would still confirm if it’s exactly as what I said.

“Is there anything else you need today?”

After Clerk-san came out, Camilo asked that. This is also the usual flow.

“I’ll be needing clay. It doesn’t have to be today. It will be good if it’s soft and fine.”

“Clay? I’ll try to check with the pottery workshop we handle.”

“Sorry for the trouble, that would be helpful. I also want a horse. We are about to reach our limit when pulling that cart manually. To be honest, it’s been a struggle just to get here. It’s good that the trip back home is almost the same as usual, but when I buy something bulky or heavy, we are in trouble, so I’d like to take action now.”

“I see… I understand. I’ll see what I can do about that.”

“Sorry for that but, I’ll leave it to you.”

“What are you saying? Consider it as my guilt for having a small workshop with only one disciple hit 55 pieces of longswords.” Camilo said so and winked at me. Uh-, that doesn’t suit you, Camilo.

Chapter 99: Mass production

With this setup, it seems that we’ll able to make quite a few longswords once we get on the momentum. As assigned in the morning, Diana makes the mold then Samia pours the melted iron into it and I and Rike will do the finishing. Since a mold needs to be remade for each sword, maybe the most important thing at the moment is the speed at which Diana creates the molds. Given that her pace in making one mold is faster compared to us finishing one longsword, there’s no sign that we’ll be running out of molds so far. In the worst case scenario, we can switch to forging until the molds are replenished. However, there will inevitably be a difference in quality if that would be the case.

Just like in the other workshops, when we have full operation in our workshop, we are in a situation where there are high-temperature objects such as melted iron and red-hot iron that would be constantly around us. In other words, it will be extremely hot. The day after the goods are wholesaled to Camilo, we also make some sheet metal so the situation is somewhat similar. Even when we are not mass-producing, we would be in a state close to this.

But still, this is hotter than I expected. I reminded the three of them to always rehydrate in between their tasks. The three of them replied that they understand. Through my installed knowledge, I know that the climate around here was not so harsh. So in that case, apart from Rike, who would have experienced a similar situation at her home, it is quite possible that the other two have little knowledge about heat stroke. I want to prevent not only the direct injuries but also accidents like that as well.

On this day, we were able to make 10 of them. The preparations made the day before probably helped on that. This is also a very good amount of production output given it’s only for one day. It is the result of a considerable compromise in quality because we only hammered it a few times but the minimum performance of it as a weapon is properly secured. I pick up a couple of the poorly made weapons and tried slashing them. None of them had any problem in particular. Even if they are to be used in warfare, they are unlikely to be broken in one or two battles. If we continue at this pace tomorrow, we will probably be able to make more than what Camilo expects.

There are still some molds (that Diana made) left. At this point, what I need to worry about is on whether we’ll run out of clay first. When we have about 50 or 60 pieces in total, it would be a good idea to have Diana do casting. Anyways, I’ll think what to do about it depending on our progress in two days.

The next day,

We made the same preparations and then we proceed to make longswords. The rhythmic sound of hammering occupies the workplace.

Oh-, that reminds me…

“In the dwarves’ workshop, don’t you sing at times like this?”

I asked Rike. I just wanted to know if the dwarves have something like a work song.

“Eh?”

Rike was confused. Uh-, Maybe there’s none.

“Uhm-, nevermind. I was just wondering if there is a song that you guys sing when you are forging swords or anything that involves blacksmithing. I haven’t been in this business for a long time, and my “house” was not involved in blacksmithing, so we don’t have anything like that in this workshop.”

“Aah-, there is.”

They have one after all.

“Can you let me hear it even for a bit?”

“Eeh~…”

Rike is embarrassed. It’s like I just asked someone to perform at a banquet all of a sudden.

“It’s okay if you’re embarrassed. I’m just curious you see.”

“N-No, it’s okay”

Her face is still a little red, but her eyes are brimming with vigour like she has made up her mind. Oops, I should have been more careful. Some people can’t say no when their boss asks so I should be more careful when I request something. However, she is now fully motivated. It would be wrong to tell her that she doesn’t have to do it now. I guess I’ll just let her do it.

Yo ho, yo ho, we are mountain fairies~
We wield the hammer as we do blacksmithing work~
We are happy when we make something good~
Yo ho, yo ho, we can do anything from pot and pans to hoe~
We wield the hammer and do our work~
Sake is waiting for us at night~
Yo ho, yo hoo

Rike sang with a cute voice while she’s swinging down the hammer in rhythm. As expected, it’s not a Japanese-style lyrics or melody, but it’s also good.

“Whoa!! Rike, you’re good at it! You don’t have to be shy.”

I stopped working and applauded. Samia and Diana also clapped their hands. Rike looked embarrassed in response.

“Rather than whether I’m good or bad at it, it’s really dwarf-like so it’s embarrassing. I didn’t really care about that until I left home.”

It’s true that there are some parts that I’m impressed about her and think that it’s “dwarf-like”. I might be embarrassed if someone called the activities that I’m doing casually as “human-like”. Still,

“I think it’s okay to be dwarf-like. I guess I’m human-like too, and Samia is beast-like. If someone tried to tell Rike off because of her race, we of Eizou Workshop, wouldn’t let that off.”

My family has a connection with the Count’s House. Relying on it is the last resort, but if that solves everything, I will use it for my family without hesitation. “Yeah, yeah”, Samia and Diana nodded their heads in agreement.

“Thank you, Boss. Then I will become a blacksmith who lives up to a dwarf’s name.”

Rike picked up the hammer again and she swings it in a good mood while singing their work song in a more cheerful voice than before.

Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

Chapter 98: Build-to-order manufacturing

After we talk about the order, all we have to do is go home. We then bid goodbye to Camilo and leave the store. When I think over it, other than the custom orders or those items I sold myself, I mean, those items I sold to him and the additional orders (when the Halberd was ordered), this may be the first time that we make something that is properly requested. I’m glad that it was Camilo on the onset.

I slightly bowed to the guard at the entrance of the town and passed by. When I glanced at him, I saw that he was still holding a spear. I wonder if the halberd training is still being carried out, and I consider whether there is really such benefit in doing that. The fact that he asked for more halberds suggests that he intends to let the guards in this town use it too. If not, he can just send the first ones to the guards in his mansion.

Anyways, that’s for Marius to think about. There’s no point in me worrying about it. I put the halberd out of my mind and focused on keeping my pace with Rike.

On the way back, the scenery on the road was still peaceful. Sometimes I feel like I don’t need to be careful because there’s nothing to be careful about. However, Camilo mentioned that there are occasional bandits and Helen even said that she had defeated a large group of bandit a while back so I can’t get that out of my mind. This kind of thing can happen the moment we let our guard down…

As expected, on this day as well, nothing appeared on the main road. Ordinary people would have been more careful inside the forest ahead but it was different for us since we are familiar to it. Or rather, it is easier there.

However, we don’t want to unnecessarily provoke the animals in the forest so Samia take the lead as usual while she keep an eye out to avoid running into them as much as possible. We passed by some animals often but we did not encounter any trouble. On the other hand, we didn’t see the little wolf that Diana had been longing for, which somewhat dampened her spirits.

Once we got home, we carried the luggage inside and after that, we had a free-time for the rest of the day. I decided to prepare some molds in advance for the mass production that would start tomorrow. It’s been a while since I asked Samia and Diana to do it. I put clay on the wooden mold and let it dry to make a mold. I repeated this process until it was time to prepare dinner so I made quite a few pieces. With this, we don’t have to worry about the mass production tomorrow. I nodded my head and went back inside the house to prepare for dinner.

The next day,

After we had our breakfast, it was time to divide up the work. Unlike the usual chat while we stay seated around the table after our breakfast, we moved to the workplace. After we worshiped to the Kamidana, we started our meeting.

“As you already know, Eizou Workshop has been asked to mass produce longswords. So from today onwards, we will all be working on it, myself included.”

When I said that, the three of them replied with different words but the meaning is the same.

“Let’s move as efficiently as possible. Diana, keep on working on making molds.”

“Understood”

“Samia, your work will focus on filling the mold. You don’t have to do deburring today.”

“Okay”

“Rike and I will do the finishing.”

“Yes, I understand”

“Our speed is important but be careful not to cause accidents by rushing. It’s okay to move slowly and do it one at a time. Just make sure that you do it safely. 「Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. 」Please keep this in mind when working.”

“Is that some kind of saying in the North?”

Samia mixed up my words.

“Well, it’s something like that.”

Actually, it’s a phrase often used in my previous world for training special forces.

“Alright, let’s get started.”

「「「Yes」」」

In this way, the first mass production of our workshop started.

Although we were fired up, we couldn’t start until the fire was lit in the fire bed and furnace. Until the fire is lit and the temperature rises, all four of us spend our time making molds. These molds will all be used up by the end of the day at the earliest.

The molds can be reused to a certain extent because the firing process does not change the structure of the molds. However, there will be some loss so we eventually need to stock up on them. Perhaps it will also be necessary to replenish new clay by the time this mass production is completed. But for now, we are just working for the purpose of mass production.

When the temperature of the furnace rises, iron ores are thrown inside and the melted iron is taken out. After that, it is poured into a mold and cooled down, and until that point, it’s not yet my and Rike’s turn. At this time, Samia is the busiest person. She’s pouring the melted iron into the mold and then she throws more iron ores into the furnace. At this pace, it’s unlikely that she’ll be bored after we start finishing. Well, there’s that possibility in Samia’s case, but if that happens, we’ll be able to keep her busy with the mold making.

When the sword was cooled down, I took it out of the mold, grabbed it with the pincers and hammered it to remove the burrs. Then I put it in the fire bed to heat it up, took it out at the “right moment” and then I hammered it and start finishing. I started first, but Rike was not to be outdone, she proceeded to hammer and start finishing one too. When I glanced at it, it’s not up to a high-end model, but it’s a good workmanship for a general model.

The sound of the two hammers echoed loudly, mixed with the sound of the fire and wind, along with the sounds of Samia and Diana working. We’ve had this situation many times before, but this time, perhaps because the work was done with a proper purpose, the whole family seemed to be working together even more than usual.

Then, I completed the first longsword of the whole family.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Side Story: Diary of an adventurer

Six Kingdom Period, Year 2530, 11th day of the Fire Month

At last, from the Royal Capital, we now arrived at the remote Mana City. There is a reason why we, an advanced rank adventurer party, came to such remote region. It is to scout an adventurer named Tanaka.

To be frank, I’m not really interested in that Tanaka guy. However, since my companions kept on nagging that we should scout him, I had no choice but to come to such remote region. Of course, I can understand why my companions said that.

My abilities nowadays did not grow as much as expected and as advanced rank adventurers, I know that they also feel anxious thinking that we have reached our limit. Right then, we heard that there was an adventurer who defeated fifty dragoneuts all by himself.

I’ve heard about the Homeless party before, but to have defeated fifty dragoneuts alone, I find the story ridiculous. I wondered if the rumor was only an exaggeration. However, that guy ought to be a strong person at least. There must be an original story to such rumor otherwise.

If we can make that Tanaka guy join us, we can definitely hope for an increase in the strength of our “Sword of Glory” party. The term “Special Grade Adventurers” will also be within our reach. That is why I didn’t go against the opinions of my comrades.

The issue is, it was said that Tanaka is a handsome guy.

I have some confidence in my look but that Tanaka guy seemed to be more handsome. I can see that even with that, my companions would still be interested in him. The members of Sword of Glory are me, a swordsman, a mage woman, a warrior woman, a spear wielder effeminate man and a large shield wielder feminine man.

Yes, I have homo… There are two effeminate men in our group.

No… This matter is irrelevant now. Adventurers are all about their abilities. I don’t care about gender. Rather than that, I did not feel very pleasant to bring in someone who is more popular to woman than me.

To be clear, I hate those guys who are popular to woman. However, I will tolerate that part and still scout him. If the character of that Tanaka guy is the worst, we will immediately return to the Royal Capital.

12th Day of the Fire Month

We went to the Guild in Mana and there were many adventurers like us who turn up there. Every last one of them is calling the name of that Tanaka guy repeatedly that it became so noisy.

When I looked closely, I was surprised to see that a relatively famous party also came here. I suddenly felt envious knowing that they sought after that Tanaka guy so much. I am also a swordsman with considerable skill. I want to tell them to scout me too!

I was able to get one good information though.

Apparently, the Homeless party live inside the Great Dungeon. I don’t think it’s very sane to live in Mohed’s Great Dungeon that is known as the worst dungeon but, I was indeed impressed knowing that the rumoured powerful person is living in a different environment.

Perhaps like a sword, that Tanaka guy is sharp and uncouth.

I feel that Tanaka’s image in me was broken a little.

13th Day of the Fire Month

We came to Mohed’s Great Dungeon.  Currently, we are at the 15th floor.

It’s quite a good pace.

Originally, there was a time when we trained in Mana, so from the Temple of Teleportation, we can go directly to the 10th floor. From there, all we have to do is go down five more floors as there were not that many enemies.

I feel that we have a lot of time to spare.

Now then, let me write down why we went to this dungeon.

Rumor has it that the Homeless live in the 24th floor of this dungeon. It’s just a gossip coming from the residents of the city but I think it’s true. In fact, there is a senior adventurer who had been to the 24th floor. According to that person, the twenty-fourth floor has a large land area and an environment where people can live in.

If that’s indeed the case, it is quite possible that the Homeless are on the 24th floor. That being said, I was against coming to the dungeon to find that Tanaka guy. Even if we don’t bother to risk ourselves, that Tanaka guy will eventually turn up in the guild one day because he is also an adventurer.

I continuously suggested waiting for Tanaka while we’re lazing around at the inn.

The mage agreed.

This woman is quite annoying. She’s has this character of being attracted by only the physical looks. However, she tends to hate dangerous things. It appeared that she is in complete agreement with my opinion.

The warrior however, objected.

She has a contrasting personality to that mage and she likes danger. She even made a guts pose saying, “Let’s jump into danger like a real adventurer!”

I wonder why I made such person as my comrade. I sincerely and deeply regret it.

The spearman also objected.

He says he’s a woman, but he looks like a muscular man. He intimidated me saying, “Hey you, don’t you have any balls?” Uh-, I want him to stop using that intimidation skill while threatening me.

The large shield wielder gave another opinion.

It was for us to train again inside Mohed’s Great Dungeon while looking for those Homeless guys. Although it is said to be a training ground for beginners, it is actually the most difficult dungeon that no one can traverse.

It was a good proposal for us, who are currently stuck, to acquire more ability. I was quite hesitant but I decided to accept the idea in the end. I’m not interested in Tanaka, but I find it very attractive to be strong.

That’s why in this way, while aiming for the 24th floor, we have come this far. We haven’t fought to the point of training yet, but I’m a little excited when I think about the enemies that will come out in the future.

I am also an adventurer after all.

14th Day of the Fire Month

I’m tired today so I’ll keep my diary short.

Currently, we are at the 18th floor. The magical beasts that came out gets stronger and it has finally become a real training for us. However, as advanced rank adventurers, it is still a weak opponent for us.

Instead, the large shield wielder began to say, “If you look closely, our swordsman is quite a handsome man, isn’t it?”

He never said that before, so why was he saying it now?

Besides, the number of skinships has increased. I don’t dislike this large shield wielder guy but I’m normal! So please spare me!

Today he… sigh, let’s sleep a little away from him.

15th Day of the Fire Month

We came to the 21st floor.

This is like a swamp. I saw several orcs that I quickly realized that there was a den nearby.

Or so I thought, the place where the orcs live was full of spider webs and it was even in a state of ruin. Someone destroyed the orc’s home. I immediately think that it was Tanaka who did it. But to destroy the Orc’s home, there has to be several advanced rank adventurers. Or even a special grade or master grade is needed.

As expected, Tanaka must be a considerably talented individual. Little by little, I couldn’t see through Tanaka’s strength anymore. At the same time, my interested is piqued.

I wonder what kind of person Tanaka is.

16th Day of the Fire Month

We finally move on to the 22nd floor.

A great number of large dragonflies and large frogs lived on this floor. Thankfully, albeit with some difficulty, we were able to escape to a building where the stairs is.

The mage said, “I don’t like insects! I’m going home!”

The warrior refuted, “It was a dragonfly!”

The spearman said, “I’m not good with frogs”, he was even trembling a little.

On the other hand, the large shield wielder praised me, “I think that swordsman’s judgment was excellent.”

The large shield wielder looks beautiful, and when I think of him as a man, something just doesn’t feel right. I can’t help but think that he is a real woman. He’s even so kind to me until now.

But I’m normal. This won’t change.

17th Day of the Fire Month

There were many Babū trees on the 23rd floor.

More than that, what surprised me was the fenced long road that was there. I don’t think it was made by three or four people. Does the Homeless party excel not only in fighting but also in architecture?

It’s not only Tanaka, his party members cannot be underestimated either. However, I am now convinced that Tanaka lived in the 24th floor. The Homeless are on the 24th floor. There’s no doubt about it.

While thinking like that, we went to the 24th floor. However, my idea was a little off. Like what that senior adventurer said, the 24th floor was an environment blessed with a very large land. I think it is good enough for people to live in.

Then we found a building shortly after.

Livestock were kept there. There was also a large field next to it. I was so sure that the Homeless lived here, but no matter how many times I looked inside the building, I couldn’t find any traces of someone living here. We concluded that this is the homeless’ livestock farm and that their real home may be further down.

Then, as we tried to leave the building, we were attacked by a black griffon.

It swooped down from the sky and attacked us with its sharp claws and beak. I fight back with my sword but I was not even able to get a solid hit. Even the magic of the mage was less effective. We then desperately kept running away and then we finally found the stairs which saved our lives.

I can write a diary in this way because I was lucky enough to escape to the 25th floor. I’d like to take a break here and decide whether to move forward or go back.

18th Day of the Fire Month

We decided to move forward.

I suggested that we should go back, but again, the warrior, spearman, and the large shield wielder opposed it.

The mage seemed to want to go home more than I do, perhaps because she was so traumatized by the Griffon. However, at this time, the large shield wielder said, “Isn’t that Griffon a mutant specie?”  He said that it’s a mutant specie so it was only natural that we couldn’t win.

If it’s indeed a mutant specie, I can also see why we couldn’t win. Griffon is a difficult opponent even for advanced adventurers. Even more so when it comes to mutant species, they are many times stronger than the original.

In other words, we just happened to meet a strong enemy.

However, it’s still scary to think that I didn’t land a hit at all. I then proposed that we will only check up to the 30th floor and round up the search if we still did not find those Homeless guys.

Everyone agreed.

Why did I choose such a dangerous path?

Well, that’s because I have magical retreat incense. In the worst case, we can just escape using that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t make such a dangerous choice.

19th Day of the Fire Month

We came to the 28th floor in no time.

For some reason, we did not encounter any enemies in the 26th and 27th floor. Along the way, we found a bone that seemed to be a part of a skeleton but the area was unnaturally quiet. It feels like the magical beasts here moved to another place. I feel unease about it but I decided not to worry any further because my comrades were happy with it being like this.

Being an adventurer for a long time, we might eventually encounter something like this. I decided to think like that.

And then we ended up seeing a ridiculous sight on the 28th floor. There were so many skeletons there that I didn’t want to believe what I’m seeing. Moreover, all of them were pitch black in color and they were skeletons I had never seen before.

They were looking at us with their red eyes shining in the dark. However, they never attacked us.

After calming the mage who was about to shoot them with magic, I observe the skeleton closely. No matter how close I get, they didn’t attack. On the contrary, a skeleton pointed his finger somewhere. I thought it was a trap at first but I never heard of a magical beast deceiving a person. Or rather, it’s on whether they know how to deceive or not.

It’s strange, but I decided to believe the skeleton in front of me.

As we proceed as it is, we meet another skeleton and once more, we were guided in the same way. Eventually, it lead us to the stairs. I still don’t know what that was, but we were able to take a rest before going down to the 29th floor.

20th Day of the Fire Month

We reached the 30th floor.

We passed through the 29th floor relatively quickly and we were able to go downstairs immediately. However, the large shield wielder was injured during our battle with the hobgoblins. They use paralyzing eyes and they aimed at him because the large shield wielder blocked most of their attack. He had a shoulder injury and wasn’t in a state where he can fight with his shield for a while.

We decided to return to the ground quickly. There is a Temple of Teleportation here in the 30th floor so it would be possible for us to escape immediately. I carry the large shield wielder and look for the Temple of Teleportation. But unfortunately, we met a group of Hobgoblin again. Moreover, there were five of them this time.

As we were driven to a corner where death only awaits us, we then prepared for our death.

Kata kata

I wondered what that sound was. Three pitch black skeletons appeared and they killed those hobgoblins in a blink of an eye. In that moment, I understood that those pitch black skeletons were such strong magical beast.

From the bottom of my heart, I wanted to praise myself for choosing not to fight when we met their kind in the 28th floor. If we fought, we would definitely be dead by now.

The skeletons that killed the Hobgoblins ignored us and immediately left afterwards. After that, we safely found the Temple of Teleportation.

We were finally able to return to the ground.

21st Day of the Fire Month

Apparently, during the time that we were diving into the dungeon, the Estent Empire’s soldiers came to attack. Fortunately, those Homeless guys solved everything. I was a little disappointed though.

I might have met Tanaka otherwise. I’m now more interested in Tanaka than ever before.

What is he doing in that dungeon?

Are those pitch black skeletons related to him?

How strong is he?

Such questions were swirling inside my head.

That being said, I am no longer thinking of scouting Tanaka. I reaffirmed that I could become stronger along with my comrades. It seems that my comrades thought so as well. We may have reached our individual strength limit, but it is still possible with our team strength. I felt that way during our training this time.

We will be returning to the Royal Capital tomorrow.

On a side note, the large shield wielder confessed to me earlier. Apparently, he had been interested in me for a long time. “I’m sorry”, I politely rejected him.

I have written it many times, I’m normal!

Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

Chapter 97: Road

The next morning,

I somewhat recovered after my night’s sleep. I then went about my morning routine and prepare to go to the town. I loaded the swords and knives we made inside the cart. Thankfully I can do the work around here even if I’m half asleep.

As I load them, I always put them together by type and wrap them in a large piece of cloth. I then place them on the cart and I secure them with a rope. As for the knives, I just put them in a box without a lid. This box is also used to carry back small things (like pepper, etc.) that I bought at Camilo’s place so it is quite useful.

This cart has been useful to me each time but it is also a second-hand one so it is starting to show some signs of breaking. Though it’s not something that can happen in one or two round trips, I still think that I need to fix it. I feel like I can make one with my cheat, but the ball bearings and torsion bar suspensions would be an overkill.

Even today, it is me and Rike who pull the cart while Samia and Diana served as our escorts. The cart rattles through the green landscape. Other than the bird’s chirp, only the rustling of the leaves can be heard when the wind blows so the sound of the cart is especially loud.

Since we only come and go once a week, and because the soil in this forest is originally hard, there are no ruts left in this forest road even if we pass here almost every week. With the fact that there are no ruts on the way, there is probably no problem even with the foregoing “usual condition”. However, I can’t help but wonder if it’s really a good idea not to maintain the road for the sake of the occasional customers coming here. Besides, it’s not as if the wild animals won’t come close to forest road. It may be better to consider maintaining the road even if it’s only halfway from the house.

With a break in between, we made it safely to the entrance of the forest. On the way here, Samia changed the course several times, probably because there was something ahead. Considering that, it would be difficult to construct a road on the entrance side. It might also be more troublesome to deal with if we encounter other people on the road.

From here, we will go along the main road as usual. It is not paved with cobblestones like those in the Roman Empire in my previous world, but, it is sufficiently hardened to make it easy to walk. The area also has a nice view and with the guards patrolling on the main road, there are hardly any bandits. However, the fact that there are few means that there are occasional bandits so we cannot be too careful.

As usual, we continued on the way while being on alert.

Today as well, we arrived at the entrance of the town without any incident. The guard is checking the passersby with his usual sharp look. I don’t have the courage to ask, but I think he can recognize the criminals even if they are acting normally. I exchanged greetings with the guard, who glanced at me and relaxes his gaze somewhat, and then we entered the town.

We walk along a street that has been well trodden by the feet of the people coming and going here. Wagons and carts just like ours are running smoothly and the area is quite lively. Of course, our cart felt lighter compared to when we were on the main road. I wonder if there are cobblestoned pavements inside those walls. I thought about this as I looked over the wall that had originally been the town’s outer wall.

Unlike last time, we did what we usually do after arriving at Camilo’s store. No, it wasn’t that different last time either. Like before, we talked about what we wanted to buy, the amount we are going to wholesale to the store, and then we still chatted afterwards. However, there’s something a little different today.

“When it comes to making a huge number of swords, how much can you make?”

Camilo asked me.

“If we were to lower the quality and only focus on one type, we can make almost six times as many swords as we do now. The amount of production will increase if we don’t have to make the high-end ones.”

If I were to make general model swords with priority on mass production speed, they can probably be made at about twice Rike’s speed. Meaning, if I do it with three times Rike’s speed and we use the time to make knives to forge swords instead, our production speed would be doubled so it would be 6 times in all.

“I see……”

Camilo ponders over it after hearing that.

“If you need it, I’ll do it. However, I will have to give up the other item for delivery.”

“Yeah, that would indeed be the case…”

“Hmm”, Camilo thinks about it seriously. It seems that he’s not just retailing our products so he might be thinking about what to do about that. If he buys all of my items every time, it means that they are selling well. Camilo is not that easy-going as to buy such quantity every time and just have them gradually added to a bad inventory….That’s what I think. Or rather, I do have confidence in Camilo’s talent as a merchant to make money.

“Hmm, hmm”, Camilo thought about it for a while, and then eventually,

“Alright”

He then looked up and said that. It was unusual for Camilo, who usually makes prompt decision, to think about it for a long time.

“For the next delivery, can I request for all of the items to be longsword? The larger the quantity, the better.”

“As I said earlier, it’s fine with me. Next week’s delivery will all be general model longswords, right?”

“Yeah. Ah-, give me a minute. I’ll be back quickly.”

After saying that, Camilo left the room. I was curious why such quantity was necessary, but if he said that he needs it, then I guess it’s really needed. I didn’t dare ask why. As what he had said, Camilo returned shortly after. He has two sheets of paper in his hand. It is not a parchment but it’s made of flax or silk. There were several sentences written there.

“After confirming that the two are the same, take the other one.”

Camilo said that while he is presenting the paper to me. I then read the document. Here’s the summary of the document’s content, “Prepare as many longswords as you can by next week. I will pay you adequately for that work. Payment is to be made in exchange for the longswords and this document.”

Camilo’s signature is also there. So to speak, this is a purchase order. The reason why the compensation amount is not written specifically is because the quantity for the delivery is up to me. It would have been nice if he had specifically stated the quantity, for example, 50 pieces. However, I think that he did that to cover in case of any unforeseen situation. It’s quite ambiguous for a purchase order but I guess it’s what you can call give-and-take.

“Sure”

After reading through the contents of one of the purchase order and confirming that the other one was the same, and that the thumbprint which was stamped as a  seal over the edges of two sheets is indeed Camilo’s, I kept the purchase order in my pocket.
