Chapter 31

“Hershey, this cake is delicious!” Princess Lotte praised and I hurriedly looked at her.

“Thank you Princess.” I smiled at her.

“You said there was a slight difference but it is rather big for me.” Princess Lotte addressed as she eat the cake.

“The main difference was mainly on the final garnish. I used fresh fruits while Caramelle should have used some strawberry icing am I right?”

“Ah? Ah… yes. I used strawberry mixed with some honey in creating the icing.” Caramelle looked at me strangely.

“Oh, I was also rather impressed by your approach, if you could, may I also see the way you make that icing?”

Secretly looking at the recipe would be cheating so I would rather ask for it openly.

“S-sure… I would gladly show it to you.” Caramelle’s sweet voice once again echoed out.

“This cake also taste good.” It was Ghirar and he had even eaten half of the cake with strawberry icing.  Princess Lotte stared daggers at the cake but she still sliced a portion of it.

“Oh… this is… I prefer the one with fresh fruits!” I could clearly tell that Princess Lotte finds the cake made by the heroine delicious but she did not want to admit it.

“Hmmm… both cakes are pretty delicious for me.” Crown Prince Lewis also voiced out his opinion.

“Brother what about you?” Princess Lotte looked at her brother who had just placed a spoonful of cake in his mouth.

“I preferred fresh fruits than this so called icing…” Prince Aero answered directly, after that he placed the spoon down clearly telling that he does not have plans to take another bite.

“If that is the case, I think Hershey’s cake wins!” Princess Lotte applauded.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Crown Prince Lewis also clapped as he stood up. “Congratulations to you both, the cake was rather good. I think both recipe’s should be kept.” His hand then outstretched towards Caramelle.

The heroine politely lifted her left hand but that form looked as if she was waiting for it to be kissed! The crown prince was obviously only in for a handshake!

Alternating between the two, I can’t help but gasp as the crown prince really took her hand and kissed it!

Damn! Was the crown prince trying to be a gentleman or has he already fallen in love?

I did not even write this part! Goodness, this should not be… his feelings should slowly progress as his interest was piqued!

Right after that, the crown prince also outstretched his hands to me. I quickly grabbed it and made a firm handshake. I really can’t believe this handsome guy would fall in love at first sight! That was rather so cliche!

“Lady Caramelle, we should now go to the meeting area. The others should have been waiting there for some time now.” Prince Aero’s voice was so serious yet Caramelle smiled sweetly at him.

After pardoning themselves from Princess Lotte, they moved inside the castle.

“I hate that woman! She is such a villain!” Princess Lotte blurted out right after the entire crowd dispersed.

Ahahaha… Princess you are the villainess here.

Under the chilly glint from the Princess gaze towards the area the heroine moved, I couldn’t really decide who is who… The princess’ gaze right now was that of a villain character but the heroine a while ago also displayed the qualities of a villain!

“Hahaha… Anyway princess, would it be ok for us to go towards the temple?” I have asked the two chef’s who helped me to make another cake but its mini version. I planned to offer it towards that self proclaimed Moon Goddess.

“The temple? Why do you want to go there?” The princess now displayed curiosity.

“Ah, I wanted to offer some cake to the Mo-Sun God… You see during the thanksgiving, I promised to offer him something from work every day.”

Somehow I can’t help but feel my heart race as the Princess displayed suspicion. She stared at me for a long time and I don’t even know if my smile right now looked alright.

“Okay, we could also ask brother Ghirar to come with us.” The princess became rather joyful after speaking her beloved’s name. She then dragged me towards the study.

“Ahm… Princess, we could also go later on, before I get off work you know… also my offering was still in the kitchen…” I gently spoke as I feel it would be weird barging in during a meeting yet the princess paid no heed to my words, we even moved faster!

When we came to the study, Caramelle was the only woman inside and like Chef Tome from before, there are other attendees who looked at her lovingly. To me this reaction seemed rather scary… I don’t want to be stared at that way especially of someone I only met today!

Was it the heroine’s charm?

“Sorry cousin, brother. I would like to borrow Big Brother Ghirar. We would like to visit the temple now you see…”

The three men looked at each other and Ghirar could only stand up helplessly. Just like that, Princess Lotte happily cling towards Ghirar’s right side.

“Uh… Princess, Priest Ghirar I will just get my offering real quick!”

After saying so, I sprinted back towards the kitchen. After drinking full glass of refreshing water, I slowly packed the offering. I finally moved back towards the garden where I have left the two.

Seeing the merry Princess with the awkward priest I really don’t know if I should push them together or help Ghirar be freed from this destined to be villainous princess…

Chapter 30

Caramelle’s face looked odd when she saw the Princess dragged me to the corner and even the two handsome guys were in tow.

“What are you looking at that woman for?” Princess Lotte’s voice echoed out as she pinched my cheeks.

Ouch! I can’t help but pout.

“I’m your backer here so don’t be so cowardly!” Princess Lotte once again pinch me.

“Haha… “ Sensing a gaze on me, I politely bowed towards Prince Aero. Why was he looking at me like that?

“We are looking forward to taste the cake you made.”  Prince Lewis spoke but when I looked at him I can’t help but see that he was having fun at my predicament!

“Ahahaha… thanks to the Crown Prince…”

“Remember to beat her in making the cake! Don’t be such a coward go!” Princess Lotte then pushed me forward.

What was the point of dragging me to the corner? You only further ignited the heroine’s fury! I even felt that the chef’s would not be willing to help me…

“Lady Almonds…. Or Hershey? Should I call you that?” Caramelle spoke first. Her soft sweet voice is giving me goosebumps!

“Ah that… I”

“Oh… I – I am so sorry for being so presumptuous… I –I don’t think you would really want to be friends with a commoner like me…” Caramelle voice right now was slightly higher and her trembling sweet voice sounded so pitiful gathering everyone’s attention!

Oi…Oi… this heroine is acting like a villain!

“Don’t feel so proud of yourself… right now, Lady Truffles is also one of the King’s vassals!” The arrogant chef once again speak forward.

What the heck is the deal with this uncle!

“Hershey, just concentrate on your cake, don’t mind the fly there. Also could somebody move towards my friend’s side? Why are you all at one side?” Princess Lotte’s voice was sharp. “Brother, I think there is something wrong with this apprentice Chefs, go change them again. I really can’t wait for the original Chefs to come back!”

NO! Goodness, Princess please stop speaking up for me…  Right now, I feel like I’m a poor rabbit ready to be devoured!

Cough.

“Go on and prepare the cakes, we will wait at the garden then.” It was Prince Aero and right after speaking, he pushed Princess Lotte and the crown prince out of the kitchen.

After the departure of the royalties, Leni and Merci swiftly moved to my side and asked what they could be of assistance. Two uncle Chef’s also moved towards me while the other four stayed at the heroine’s side.

“Ahem. Leni and Merci help me mix this cocoa powder with the flour and baking soda. Whisk it gently and make sure it was mixed thoroughly.” Facing the uncle chef’s I asked them to prepare the oven while the other whisk the egg, sugar, cream and vanilla together.

After checking that their works were already mixed well, we combined the two bowls content and mixed it evenly. Since the batter was now complete we placed it into the cake pan. Setting the time to thirty minutes we proceeded to make the chocolate for the coating.

While picking the most reddish strawberry, I glanced at the heroine’s work and they were already in the process of putting the chocolate coating. On the side, I could see that they would be placing some icing, that should also be strawberry as it was pinkish. Imagining it, I could already see that the cake would look so yummy!

Truthfully, I was still at loss on how to make icing so I only indicated on putting fresh fruit toppings. My trials were all failure so if I could somehow see how the icing was made, our Sweetness Loop cakes would definitely be complete!

“Lady Almonds the cake is made.” One of the Chef spoke as he placed a beautifully shaped bread on the counter.

“Oh lets also put the coating now.” After pouring the chocolate over the cake and checking that it was now coated well, I proceeded on putting the garnish. I placed the sliced strawberry at the center while forming it like a rose and gently spread some pomegranate arils all over.

“Wow… it is beautiful Lady!” Merci and Leni both applauded

The chef’s at the heroine’s side only huffed and they began to order the maids to prepare for the utensils.

“It would be better if the judge would not know which is which. So let the maids bring the cakes simultaneously.  Lady Almonds, please don’t spill your work towards the Princess.” Caramelle’s words clearly has notion!

“Right, it would be best if no one cheats!” The haughty chef from before spoke out once again!

“Hoho… you guys sounded as if we are having a fierce competition… This is only a friendly exchange is it not? I think both recipes are good enough and both cakes should please the royalties.”

With high chin, I motioned Merci and Leni to help the other maids to prepare. Glancing at the heroine, she looked as if she just saw something ridiculous.

Aish, the way she looked at me was blatant provocation and I hate being provoked!

When we went towards the garden, the royalty trio were already seated with Ghirar in addition while the maids where busy placing utensils in front of them. The main characters are all here!

“Both cakes looked delicious!” Prince Lewis then beamed towards us.

“I prefer this cake with fruits on top.” It was Princess Lotte and she already moved to slice a part of it. With her lead, the others also took their knife and similarly sliced from the cake I made – leaving the heroine’s cake intact.

Looking at Caramelle, it was obvious that she felt bad. She was even gripping her dress.

“Ha – it was so obvious that the Princess already knows what her friend made!” it was the youngest uncle chef.

His words lit the Princess anger and she looked to be spewing fire in any moment.

“Isn’t it the case? Why would you not try the other one? It was even prettier!”

Ah, what and idiot! Bravely speaking up even in front of the royalties!

I can’t help but look at this man once more. Was he in some kind of spell that he was brave enough to speak up for the heroine? Caramelle only looked dejected as she fixedly stared at the ground…

“Guards!” Princess Lotte’s voice was filled with anger. In the next moment few guards showed up. “Drag this man and strip him of his Chef position!”

This time, the heroine faced up. “NO… Princess pardon Chef Tome, he only wanted our works to be tasted.”

Chef Tome looked at the heroine as if she was some angel then he directly answered Princess Lotte. “Princess you shouldn’t be biased to your friends.”

“We understand his plea, but he has clearly forgotten something,” Prince Lewis spoke and he motioned the guards to proceed with dragging the chef away.

Silence permeated the area after the chef was taken away.

“I-I… am sorry your highness.” the heroine’s sweet soft voice broke the silence.

“No need to be sorry. It wasn’t your fault.” The crown prince looked at Caramelle and the former shyly bowed her head.

The heroine is strange! She even blushed when the crown prince nodded at her!

Caramelle should be displaying an unmoved expression that is the key for the royalties to be drawn to her yet with only one nod she was blushing!

Chocolate Bliss

Chapter 29

My way back…

I really don’t know if it was just a fleeting reality or if it was really just a dream but there is nothing wrong trying it out!

That woman clearly knows something, she holds the way for me to go back! I only need to please her and wait till her body recovers!

Right after that experience I can no longer sleep and the time clearly says it was only three in the morning. I was thinking of cooking some sweets but it would be troublesome if I made some mistake in the kitchen and woke everyone up.

Since I could no longer sleep, I should just write some more recipes! In a week’s time Duchess Pepper even revealed that Sweetness Loop would be ready for its opening. I should give the cook’s another set of recipe’s to practice on.

The Moon Goddess clearly mentioned about those rose chocolates. She must have been swooned by the chocolates. I’ll prepare all recipe’s I knew about chocolates especially the dark chocolate ones.

I would also be starting my work in the royal kitchen the next day so I should properly think of stuff’s I will share to them. While writing down the sweets I could remember, Caramelle flashed thru my mind.

Right! How could I forget the heroine…

Caramelle also declared knowledge of kitchen!

Writing nonstop, I finally stopped when the yellowish rays of the sun shone inside the room. It was funny that now that the sun was up, I suddenly felt sleepy. Calling for Jane, I asked her to inform the family that I would not be joining the lunch as I was still sleepy. I also ordered her to bring the recipes for Cook Bronze to practice and learn.

Feeling tired and sleepy, I slept like a log and when I woke up it was the next day already! Goodness I slept so long. After satisfying my famished stomach I hurried to set off towards the castle.

Castle’s Royal Kitchen

Guided towards the kitchen, I was truly amazed at how the place was fully furnished and the things were not so different from the modern times! The oven here was ridiculously similar!

“Lady Almonds, we are pleased to be instructed by you.” Two maids curtsied to me. They appeared to be my helping hand. Giving them a warm smile, I asked for their names and introduced myself once again. I then asked them to guide me towards the chefs as I could not see them here.

I was guided towards a side room and I was surprised to find that the Chef’s were all inside while endlessly praising someone.

Knock! Knock!

They were so preoccupied with the person in question that they did not even mind my knock… With no other option, I could only enter and move towards the group. Now that I am near them, I could finally see the person receiving the endless praise. She was none other than the heroine!

Previously covered by the large builds of the chefs, I was not able to realize it was the heroine herself.  Caramelle surprisingly reported in the royal kitchen first!

“Ahemm… I’m sorry, if I came late…” I sincerely apologized

“Oh, don’t worry about it Lady Almonds, I just came early as I was too excited to share them a recipe.” Caramelle’s voice was sweet but it sounded a bit off to me…

“Ah… I see…” I then looked at Chefs.  “Pleasure to meet you everyone, I’m Hershey from the Almonds house. Looking forward in working with the renowned Royal Chefs!.”

“Hahahaha” Their laughter sounds so awkward…

“Oh… What recipe did you share Lady Truffles? I also brought mine along.” After saying so, I brought out the scroll of recipe’s I had prepared beforehand. Leni, one of the maids from before took it and handed it towards the chefs.

They looked like excited children unboxing a gift but right after seeing the scroll’s content, surprise was evident on their faces. I can’t help but feel a sudden gloomy feeling.

Don’t tell me…

As hesitation was evident on the Chef’s expression, I can’t help but ask. “Is there a problem Chef?”

“No-No… there is no problem…” Most of the chef’s blurted out yet the youngest Chef faced me with his haughty gaze.

“Both ladies shared the same recipe today and it was even both about chocolate cakes! Reading thru, we found some slight difference in the process and ingredients but nonetheless, I think that Lady Truffle’s recipe would be better.”

Right after that, he looked back lovingly towards the heroine. Looking at his biased display, I wanted to punch his face!  Sigh, anyway since I came late I should just let this go.

“Oh… if that is the case, I’ll just share with you another set of recipe then.” After that, I asked Leni and Merci for a piece of paper and pen. It would be too awkward if they continue to watch how I was treated right on my first day!

While waiting for them to go back, I quietly took a stool and seated on it. The room looked luxurious but the ambiance was surprisingly too awkward! The Chefs were still at the heroine’s side and I looked like a wallflower here!

I was about to go out to the kitchen and prepare some drinks when Leni came back and she looked so flustered. I thought she has already accomplished the task but unexpected presence emerged right after. It was none other than the royalty trio!

Princess Lotte looked so regal in her red dress while Prince Aero and the Crown prince were so handsome in their sapphire knight uniform.

So this is why she was so flustered!

“Greetings to the Royalties!” The chef’s made a deep bow while Caramelle curtsied beautifully. Right, curtsy. I also curtsied in haste.

“No need to be so formal…” It was the crown prince and his voice sounded so sunny.

“I heard that both shared the same recipe?” Princess Lotte looked at me.

“Ah? Ahm yes… that is why I…” I was not even done but Princess Lotte cut me out.

“So what if it was the same recipe? This maid said that it has different approach so why would you offer to make another set of recipe? Slight difference is still a difference!” Princess Lotte then looked haughtily at Chefs and her gaze stopped at the heroine.

“I also heard that and I think it would be best if we try those two recipe’s first and found out what tastes best.” Prince Lewis voiced was all tinged with mirth!

Damn this two people wanted me to compete with the heroine!

“Since that is the case don’t force my friend here to share another recipe without even trying her output!

Princess Lotte’s voice was full of authority!

Princess… are you really helping me or shoving me to a pit?!!!

Chapter 3: Survival (1)

Looking at everyone looking at me full of hope, I can’t help but shatter their expectation.

“I don’t have anything noteworthy except for my sharp instinct at the moment so I want you guys to tell me what you are capable of so we could at least proceed forward safely.”

They looked taken aback by my words and silence once again permeated the area. They all seemed to be in deep thought. Using this opportunity, I removed my goggles and acted as if I am cleaning it. While doing so, I observed the surrounding area.

Previously, everyone was clearly focused on me. In this area with zero visibility, it was impossible for them to see me unless there was something within me that make me visible.

Without the goggles, the area was totally foggy. The only area where we could see was at least five steps away from us. Light also seemed to be illuminating our group right now but I can’t pinpoint where it is.

Gripping the bat in hand, a sudden thought came to mind. This weapon…

Trying out my theory, I threw the weapon lightly. It rolled at least a few meter away and a five-step radius was once again illuminated out. There was a tree near where it landed and even a few rocks were around it.

Grabbing the weapon from the uncle beside me, I could finally know where it is. It was thanks to the small stone embedded in the weapon that we could at least see about five steps away from us.

If it was the case, why was the previous troop making a round formation?

Wearing the goggles back, I checked the area where the weapon landed. Since it was safe, I decided to move towards the weapon I’ve thrown. Picking it up, I sat on the small rock and waved towards the group. Convinced that the area was safe, they then move towards me.

“Kid, that was some excellent observation.” The man named Muris patted me while he sat at the rock beside me.

“I’m Roco and though I am not sure of my strength, I could at least run fast.” One of the uncles voluntarily spoke as he finds a place to sit. The others then similarly voiced out the same thing while explaining that it was the only thing they could do as they were still pretty tired and hungry. It turned out that slaves were working as miners before being dragged to war.

Facing the lone girl in the group, she stammered but still introduced herself. “I-I am Diana and I’m also a graduating student.” Her gaze at me explains that she knows me and she even look a bit familiar.

“You are also playing the flute right? Try playing some notes like the other girl before.”

Diana’s expression instantly changed. It was jealousy at first then she was filled of fury and hatred.

“Diana?” I tried to get her attention and she then quickly tried to play some notes. The sound was so bad that I can’t help but cover my ears!

Finally noticing our dilemma, she abruptly stopped. She is now fidgeting none stop, I know she was feeling anxious but I don’t know how to console her. The music was truly bad. When I looked at the uncles, they were holding their heads while kneeling down the ground. Their faces were beet red, it was as if they were drunk.

Looking at the other guy who came with us, he was similarly holding his ears. The music has different effects!

“Hey.” I patted the other guy’s back lightly. I should use this chance to know his strength while the uncles were still in their drunk state.

Finally snapping out of it, he replied. “Thanks senior. I’m Denis, and like I’ve said before I’m only from the landscape club…” his voice sound dejected.

“Hmm… What were the things you have been doing there?” Though he was confused with my question he still answered me.

“Alright, hold the ground while imagining that you are planting some tomatoes then.”

Though perplexed with the idea, his eyes showed great interest. In no time, he crouched down and touched the ground with his hands. Magically a little stem popped out of the ground and little by little it was forming a tomato plant, it even bore few fruits and it ripened fast!

“Wow!”

Diana and Denis were both surprised. With my cue, we each curiously took out some fruit. Right after plucking the ripe fruits, the plant turned into smoke – it was as if it was never there as the soil looked so flat.

With tacit understanding we tried out the tomato, it was juicy and somehow it quench my thirst. “Before we were here, what are you guys doing?” I asked while munching down on the red tomato, right now I truly need this, it felt like even my wounded feet was healing up.

“I am in the garden at that time when I saw a blinding light.” Denis replied while munching. Diana also voice out that she saw same thing.

We all saw a blinding light huh.

Noticing that the uncles were still in their drunk state, I asked Denis to try imagining other fruit trees. He successfully produced some watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuces. But producing apples and others are hard for him.

Seems like his power would only work if he knows the exact plant or tree itself, just imagining the fruit it bears is useless.

“This time, try imagining the soil at my feet to form into shoes but this time, just look at the ground.” I urged Denis.

Nodding, Denis looked intently at the ground before me. It already took a while and I could even see Denis was sweating profusely but there were no changes. “Denis, stop. Just touch the ground and try it one more time.”

He looked tired but he still followed my instruction. This time it was done swiftly and it was a huge success. I felt that the soil was coiling into my feet like that of a snake and in the next moment, a shoe was made out of the ground. Trying it out, it was stuck right to the feet and even though I jumped, it did not break!

“Oh, that sure is some kind of special magic kid!” Muris spoke as he went near us.

Glimpsing at the other uncles, they were still feeling groggy but they were now snapping out of their drunk state. Muris was the first one to get up and I did not even notice his presence when he approached us.

“Uncle, we are trying out the abilities we gained.” Denis spoke and it was apparent that he was seeking some praise.

“Nice one kid.” Muris even patted him. “So what about you two?”

“I-I think I was the one who made you guys feel sleepy.” Diana replied.

I stayed quiet and observe the group. From the uncles’ gazes I could already tell they have ranked us three. Checking the Orcs, they still appear to have no movements and they looked like they were guarding something.

“Let’s prepare to move forward. For the meantime you guys could eat the food Denis has prepared.” While saying so, I pointed out the foods we collected.

“Oh, Denis’ power sure is great.” The uncles simultaneously thanked him and began eating. They were not even half done when we heard a loud rumbling sound gathering our attention.

When I looked into it, there was a group of Orcs coming our way and their speed was alarming! Damn! They were clearly not there before!

Chocolate Bliss

Chapter 28

I finally fell asleep when I was awoken by the sudden coldness.

Groggily checking the windows, they were clearly closed. I was about to get up and inspect it further when the coldness increased once more. To be exact, the coldness came from the foot of the bed and it’s creepily spreading fast!

Nervously reaching out for the bell, I locked my gaze upon the base of the bed as ice seemed to be swirling around and forming something!

I was about to ring the bell when a beautiful woman clad in white appeared. She looked like an ice goddess! Silver hair, pristine white fairy dress and deep blue eyes! She is very mesmerising but she also holds mysterious aura at the same time.

[Oh, seems like you were waiting for me too.]

That voice! It was the cold voice I longed to here before!

[I came here to announce that I liked the offering. Bring me more of that rose styled stuff.]

“Ah?”

[You haven’t guessed my identity yet?]

Identity?  Don’t tell she is the Sun God?

The woman laughed and though her voice was tinged with coldness it was somehow such a nice melody.

[No dear, I’m not the Sun God. I am the Moon Goddess.]

Huh? I clearly did not write that!

[Of course, you haven’t written me as I created myself!]

Gasp! She could clearly read minds!

[To be exact, only your mind my dear.]

“You… so how would you turn me back home?”

[Hmmm… don’t be too hasty. As you can see I could only borrow powers from the water and wind to form my body. I still need time to digest the power from Sun God’s artifact so I could fully appear in the surface.]

What?

[To explain it, it was like this in your world too right? The moon appears at night and borrows the light from the sun. Here I could only fully create my body after absorbing enough power from Sun God’s artifact. As you know, it was your own fault that I was now reduced to this.]

“Huh? Why was it my fault?”

The self proclaimed Moon Goddess looked at me sharply. I really thought she was about to devour me!

[Do you still need to ask? You the creator of this world has only written appalling delicacies! For a decade I sacrificed eating those unpalatable stuffs! 10 years!]

Her anger caused the room to turn to frost almost instantly! I should at least be thankful that I only felt cold and I was not turned into an ice statue here. After a while, the woman seemed to have released her anger as the frosty walls turned back to normal.

“So you were saying that you brought me here just so I could cook you some sweets?”

[Yes and No. Actually, I wanted you to suffer from your own work but I did not think that you would introduce sweets yourself. You even claimed to be an enlightened.] I could clearly see mirth from her eyes.

[Never mind that, Starting from now you should offer me those delicious things. I’m even craving for one now.] She looked at me and with a raise of her hand I floated above my bed. [Let’s eat those things you have created while we talk.]

Urged and being swept up by the cold wind I had no choice but to move out of the room. I guided her towards the ice cellar. There should still be some chocolates there. While waiting for the cellar dwarf to open the door, I asked her the very thing I’m so concerned about.

“Since you have brought me here, you could turn me back right?”

The woman in question stayed silent with her brows creased. The coldness from before also seemed to be dwindling, something seems to be happening to her.

[I need to go. Bring me sweets daily. You know how I could get those…]

Right after that the coldness disappeared and the beautiful woman claiming to be the Moon Goddess was also nowhere to be found.

What was baffling was that I found myself lying on the bed! Judging from the bed sheet’s creases, I haven’t even sat up what’s more leaving the bed!

The current situation was so baffling. The memory of going towards the ice cellar was so clear but why the hell is it that I’m now in my bed?!

Don’t tell me I’m dreaming this whole time?

Chapter 2: Unbelievable Situation (2)

A red flare light up and its location pointed at the central area.

“Release the next batch of slaves!” The captain’s loud voice echoed out.

 Clank! Clank! Clank!

The simultaneous sound of metal chains being dropped down echoed out right after the captain’s voice died down. Five middle aged men were pushed forward and they only wore ragged clothing and old shoes. Similar to us, they should also be used as meat shields.

One of the soldiers at the back handed out a bunch of wooden bat with metal spikes as weapon. He also gave me a torn brown cape, I looked at him deeply. I’ll remember him. As I’m only in my swimming shorts, this tattered cape could do me a favor.

“Next batch set forward! Run towards the central area!” As the captain’s loud voice echoed out, the armed soldiers pushed our bodies forward. Given that force, we had no other choice but to run or else the spear and swords would hit our backs!

Hiss! The sharp rocks were painful to the feet yet I could only follow the other’s rhythm. In the group, I was the only one barefoot!

Looking back, the soldier’s weapon where thrust out and they were ready to kill anyone who runs back. “Fire your flare once you have met up with the previous group!” The resounding voice of the group’s leader echoed out.

The armed soldiers were only slowly following us, I could already tell that they would stop once we have entered the smog. Discretely adjusting the goggles, I peered with my left eyes and I could say that we still have at least a meter to go until we entered the smoggy area.

Placing back the goggles, I swept my gaze along the uncles running with us. Their expression tells me that they have long given up! Even the two who came with me showed despair and fear!

Damn it!

“What are you good at?” I asked the big man beside me in between running.

He only glanced at me but did not respond. Getting no answer from him I looked at the other guy at my side. “What are you good at?” Seeing that there was little bit trace of anger, I realized my question was wrong. “I don’t mean anything bad. I just want to know what your characteristics are. We will be fighting to our deaths so we should at least know our capabilities for us to survive!”

The guy stayed silent for a while but he then eventually speak. “I’m one from the landscape club Senior.” His voice seemed to be gasping for air as we were running.

Oh… This guy recognizes me at least.

Hmmm… music was categorized as wind… Landscape should be… soil…plants…Earth!

“That seemed to be something useful… When we came here do you notice anything different around you?”

He shook his head and despair was once again vivid in his face. He also doesn’t have anything with him that I could clearly see. For now, getting to know each other should do.

“I’m Dylan, what should I call you?” I extended my hands but he looked at it truly surprised. He then once again focused on running. Silence once again permeated our group as we moved forward. Little by little I could feel that our pace has been toning down.

Right now, we were only walking… slightly lifting the goggles, I found that we had finally entered the smog! Readjusting the goggles, I looked back and the soldiers following us really stopped in their tracks.

“Guys let’s stop. Let’s form into a circle.” Right after that, I halted my footsteps while grabbing the two people beside me. This caused chain reaction and the others did the same thing unconditionally – causing the entire group to halt.

I could see that we are at a safe distance from the swarm of Orcs. Even the monsters seemed to have only moved towards that certain area and they have no plans to advance just yet.

“Senior Dylan you…” the voice of the guy beside me holds a lot of confusion.

“We will only meet our deaths if we don’t form a proper stance at least.” I could not really tell them that I could see everything clearly here. Blindly trusting them is idiocy.

“Yo, this kid sure has some brains.” One of the uncles moved towards me while dragging both guy beside him. Finally right now, all of us were faced with each other. Seeing that the look in their eyes slightly changed, I have this foreboding feeling.

“You’re Drifters aren’t ya?” The Uncle who initiated the conversation once again spoke out.

I don’t know what Drifters is but I’m sure I heard it in the tower before…

Nodding my head, he laughed and extended his hands. “I am Muris. We are group of slaves and leaving this cliff alive would ensure us freedom. Kid, we are hoping you could give us a hand.”

“Dylan.” Taking his big rough hands, I knew he only wanted to live so this should be fine.

Anyway now is not the time to be picky!

Survival comes first.

Chapter 27

“Hershey Almonds and the young lady who was enlightened a while ago, Please come forward.” The King’s voice echoed out. He now stood majestically in front of the fountain area.

Slightly nervous, I rose from my seat and move towards the King. The heroine similarly walked in a slow and poised manner. Contrary to me who was obviously nervous, she remained calm and collected.

I guess this is a heroine’s normal temperament.

With the left leg over the right one, we both greeted the king with a formal curtsy. The king raised his hands and we both looked at him with reverence.

“May I know this young lady’s house name?” The king politely asked as he looked amicably towards the heroine.

“Replying to your Majesty, I belong to house Truffles. Your subject is from a humble abode in the west district. My name is Caramelle Truffles your majesty.” Caramelle then made a bow once again.

“Oh… I see. I see. This young lady’s parent, please also come forward.” Right after that, two excited people were escorted down.

After the two saluted, the king then announced his decree. “From here on, you are no longer a commoner and I allocate you a land at the eastern district. House Truffles from here on would be one of this Kingdom’s vassals.”

Round of applause then echoed out as acknowledgement of the decree. Caramelle’s parents were once again guided to their new respective seats. “Moving forward, may I know what has the young lady learned about?”

“Reporting to your Majesty, I was blessed with the knowledge of engineering. I have blueprints in mind that could help the kingdom. Furthermore, I also gained the knowledge of the kitchen. I could share with you some delicacies never been heard before.”

Ah? The heroine has acquired two? I clearly wrote knowledge of engineering only!

“Ho… this is sure a miraculous thing. To inform you all, three days prior, Duke Salte also reported that his eldest daughter acquired the knowledge of the kitchen. This has also been proven. As a matter of fact to convince everyone the Duke has already prepared for it.”

Right after that, trays has been passed down. Looking at the one’s being given to Caramelle and the priest nearby, it was a piece of leaf shaped chocolate! That should explain why we had two extra carriages.

I felt a hot gaze upon me and when I looked in that direction, I found Caramelle looking at me intently. Her gaze tells me that she was truly surprised and doubt was also apparent from her face. She looked truly unconvinced and it was as if she was drilling into me that I was a fake!

What’s with this heroine’s attitude?!

“Please explain what this is Lady Almonds.” The king softly ordered.

“Ah – yes your Majesty. This one is called chocolate. After a bite you could feel a hard seed inside, that should be an almond and it is safe for eating. This chocolate is made from the mixture of cocoa powder some butter and milk. This one is a type of sweets and after trying it, you should taste its rich and high milk content.”

Gathering everyone’s interest, they began to bite into the chocolate almost simultaneously. Surprise is apparent from their expressions and they seemed to be pleased with it though they can’t have another serving as it was only good for one each.

“This should properly prove Duke Salte’s claim.” The king then looked at us. “As both of you were an enlightened, I award your house with a plaque of honour and with each of your houses having a hundred gold coins as monthly compensation. In two days, both of you could start working in the Royal Castle.”

I did mention in the novel gifting hundred gold coins as the heroine was a commoner but I never thought I will also received the same. Though I really don’t need it, I still happily accepted the decree. The loud cheer from the crowd then echoed out. Once again, we curtsied and then proceeded back to our seats.

“For my dear citizens, I hereby decree that each commoner household be awarded with five gold coins as celebration for today’s event.” As the aristocrats are not really in need of money, they were just acknowledged and the King hoped for their continuous support.

Ah finally! This long day was finally done!

Back to my room, I can’t help but twist and turn around the bed. The day I have waited for has ended yet I was still feeling troubled!

I did not hear any voice at all… I did not even see another image from the fountains water… Helpless I stared at the rooms ceiling for a while. What should I do for me to be able to go back? That voice was my only hope but I did not hear it this whole while!

I really want to go back… This place is not for me!

Chapter 26

The group of the last commoner then proceeded in front of the fountain. In similar manner, their body was basked in blue light as they slowly floated up. One figure in particular floated up higher than the rest.

Aside from the heroine who else could she be?

Observing her deeply, I can’t help but contemplate as I don’t really find her that striking… Compared to Princess Lotte’s, the heroine looked attractive but that is all. For me, it was a beauty where you would feel like you’ll get used to it. Anyway, it may be because right now she has her eyes closed…

The others were already back to their feet but Caramelle – the heroine still floated up in the air. Judging that Caramelle is being enlightened at the moment, the blessing for the aristocrats commenced with their servants going in first.

It was now finally our turn when the heroine slowly descended down. Her enlightenment surely took a long time!

Facing the heroine in close proximity, my previous impression was still there but I feel like somehow there is something with her eyes. Her violet irises were striking against her brown hair. Her previous aura somehow has a tinge of mystery now that her eyes were glittering. Though she wore a common dress, her curves and fair skin was still highlighted.

Gulp.

When our eyes met, I can’t help but gulp down. Somehow her gaze tells me something and I even involuntarily shivered. What’s with the heroine’s aura? I am having goosebumps!

Caramelle was escorted back to her seat while we move towards the fountain. Laying our gifts upon the fountain, I watched closely as the offerings slowly disappeared.

Now please… Please speak out…

I have waited for a while but I could not hear it! I even felt hurried as the head priest began to speak. Forgetting the cold voice for the meantime, I moved discretely near the fountain to peer down but this time, I did not see any image. The water remained still unlike before where ripple appeared. With the Head Priest’s command, the blessing was once again commenced.

I felt that my body was slowly covered with warmth and I could even feel the sensation of slowly floating up. Looking at the others with their closed eyes, I also closed mine.

My mind right now was swirling with thoughts! What was going on? Why is it that I could no longer hear that cold voice and I did not even see some images now! I thought that once I got near the fountain once more, I could see some sort of images again.

When I finally descended, I found Milka looking at me deeply. She displayed a confused look and I could not really tell why.  Similar to everyone, I did not stay up there for long…

“What’s wrong?” I curiously asked softly.

Startled, Milka only shook her head and cutely smiled at me while linking arms with me.

“I am only curious what would be our dinner for tonight. I am currently hungry.” Milka cutely voiced out.

Minte on the other hand gently rubbed Milka’s head. “You haven’t had your lunch yet you are already thinking of dinner.” He teased.

While quietly giggling we went back to our seats. Having seated, I was once again assaulted with my dreary feeling and multiple concerns.

Why was the cold voice not speaking out?!

Chapter 1: Unbelievable Situation (1)

“Huh?”

Where the hell is this?!

The scene that greeted me after that blinding light was totally different! I’m really greatly baffled. I thought somebody sneaked in and took my picture once again… but the view now tells me otherwise.

I’m not in the indoor pool but in a Drift Tower it says!

Positioning the goggles into my head, the view was really… unfamiliar! The area was in a circular shape and the floor was even made like that of a paved road – correcting, this should be a rooftop as the sensation of having stand near the edge of a high building is real! I had similar feeling when I did the 15m cliff dive.

Right in front of me were three men draped in black robes making it difficult to discern their facial features. Their attires were pretty similar to those magicians in the anime series I usually watch. The most striking part was the thing erected at the central most part of this structure. The circular formation was glowing blood red and it is at least the size of the three men combined!

“This batch… they look rather ordinary…” One of them moved forward and his voice was tinge with disappointment.

“Don’t question their appearance, they may hold great strength. Quick bring them to the captain of the knights. The magic circle is once again reacting. This time we are truly lucky, the dimensional rift brought us four batches of Drifters!”

Drifters? Wait batch?

Looking sideways, I finally saw the others! I was not alone and judging by the uniform some of them wore, we should be from the same school! Aside from me, there were four other guys. One was still in his soccer uniform while the other three was on their school uniform. The two girls seemed to be from the music club as they still have their instruments at hand.

Oi Oi… Just where the hell are we now?!

“Tsk.” The other man with a disappointed expression pointed his hands towards us and another blinding light appeared.

The moment I opened my eyes I’m in front of a battlefield.

A real battlefield!

The area in front has zero visibility, it was like there was a thick smog covering the area in which only a few tall and dense trees could be discernible. There were even fully armed soldiers barricading in front…

This should be a dream!

Tapping my face and readjusting the goggles to fit my eyes. I thought of imagining of diving in the pool but the previously smoggy area cleared out. I could definitely see things clearly now!

A troop of fully armed soldiers in their bronze armours moved slowly step by step and they were positioned in a circular formation and not so far were a swarm of monsters – Orcs to be particular and they were unbelievably gigantic!

“What are you good at?”

That cold voice has awoken me from stupor. Looking back, a scary looking man asked. His face even has a double cross mark scar. Judging from his golden plate armour he should be the captain.

Gulp.

Thankfully I was not the one asked yet… But what would happen if it was my turn then?!

It was already obvious! I was even only in my Hydrosense Aquashort!

For the first time, I lacked confidence – I felt really ashamed. Nervousness consuming me, I can’t help but tap on my biofuse polarised goggle.

Wait… this goggles has special function! Removing the goggles, the scenery once again showed a complete smoggy area! I could not see a thing but with it on, I could see the area clearly!

This should be something I could tell!

“I… I also play music…” The girl beside me was so scared that her voice is trembling so much as she speak.

The captain has advanced so quickly! In no time it was my turn already! I did not even hear the others speak!

“Oh… you should also belong to the wind element.” Looking at the captain’s expression he seemed to be thinking yet doubt was apparent from his gaze.

Wait? Flute…Wind element? This goggles would surely only be taken from me if I say its function!

“Try playing some notes!” The captain ordered sternly, though the girl was trembling she somehow played a nice flute sound.

“Excellent!!! You could certainly assist us. I felt that my body was now free from fatigue!” The captain laughed and tapped at the girl’s shoulder. “How about you guys?” He asked his comrades and most of them who clearly heard the melody exclaimed that they have also felt refreshed.

Nodding, the captain’s gaze then focused on me. His scar was surely frightening!

“You!” He pointed me as he stayed in his position. “What are you good at?”

“I-I am exp–good at sw-swimming…” My voice was barely inaudible but I still received a high resounding – “Whaaaat?!!!!”

“Repeat that will you.” The captain commanded coldly.

“I said, I- I am good at swimming…”

“Hah!” The towering man let out an exasperated sigh. “You’re also a failure and you would only bring us to our doom!”

He then looked at his men. “Forget about these three.” As he said that, he pointed the other two.

Aside from me, the other guy was in his uniform and the lone girl was gripping her flute. We only watched as the others were given appropriate clothes, vest, swords and they were even casted with something. I guess that should be some sort of magic enchantment…

In our batch, only the girl who played the flute beautifully wore a full armor set and three soldiers were even assigned as her guards. Another man now clad in silver armor moved towards us.

“You three, move over there.” He pointed a group of soldiers in their bronze plate. “Position your selves in front of them. You are the next ones to set forward!” The man then pushed us making us even stumble. From here on, I knew this was not a dream at all and that I could only go on.

Ensuring that we are positioned in front, the silver armored guy then moved back to his previous position, his red cape even moved as he goes.

Looking at that arrogant back, I wanted to curse. They have brought us here but things were so apparent!  These guys deemed us as useless ones and would willingly throw us as meat shields!

Damn! What a cruel reality this is!

Prologue

The high pitch whistling sound echoed out in the indoor pool area.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

“Excellent Dylan! You have once again broken your record!”

The coach beamed and reached out his hand to help the young man get out of the pool. The youth took his hand. After getting out of the pool, the coach gave him a small towel. Taking the towel with his left hand, his other hand sexily run through his hair. When he looked at the timer the coach showed him, a small smile bloomed in his lips. Finishing three laps on the 20m length pool took him 20.40 seconds!

Gripping the wet towel, he felt good but it was still somehow lacking. He needs to at least reach that 20 second mark so that the gold medal would surely be theirs. He was a perfectionist man and all his record has been first in the 50m freestyle. He was not worried about his own record but he felt worried for the team relay. His goal is for their team to obtain the first rank on the 4x50m freestyle relay. As a graduating senior, this would be his best parting gift.

“Dylan, you could now pack up. Look at your team all lacking stamina now. It would be best that you don’t over train.” The coach reminded as he tapped on the young man’s shoulder. His facial expression tells how proud he is with him.

“Thank you coach, but I will just do one last lap.”

“Hahahaha” The coach gave out a hearty laughter. “Look at your team captain! You should all be like Dylan here.” He then gave another sermon to the teammates who were lying on the wet floor. They clearly have depleted stamina.

“Coach!!!!” The group shouted and instantly sat up as if they were bullied.

“You know captain is a monster! Monster!” The youngest team member voiced out as he points at Dylan.

“Yes coach, I think Captain here was a merman in his past life!” The others seconded

“Hmmm… I guess you guys were right.” The coach also joined in the fun and they all expressed their mirth.

Looking at his team mates who were laughing seated on the wet floor, Dylan revealed a refreshing smile. His team teases him but he still knows they deeply respected him.

“Look at captain smiling! Don’t forget that you still have your crazy stalkers!” The vice-captain reminded seeing that captivating smile.

“Aisst, why was it that captain has it all? I’ll have those nicely formed specs too!” The usually noisy guy in the team stood up and moved near Dylan – trying to compare their features.

“Hahaha” The group once again roared in laughter as the guy only boost up Dylan’s charisma.

“Enough, enough… Go and clean your things. Let’s prepare to go home. Dylan one last lap alright?”

After nodding to the coach, Dylan arranged his goggles. The group then noisily pickup their things and moved towards the changing room.

With three deep breathing exercises, Dylan once again dived down the pool. His beautiful freestyle form was still at its peak. Finishing the three laps, Dylan’s head then popped out of the water only to find a blinding light assaulting his eyes!

Damn! Someone has sneaked inside the pool area again!

He cursed.
