Chapter 22: Supply line is important

Apologies everyone, I was so busy this past two days that I was not able to translate. (>▂<) For those reading Homeless Tensei, I am sorry that I will be posting chapters for Hagure and Kajiya instead, they have shorter chapters so I can finish one today. For Homeless, I will try to complete at least two chapters till Sunday. Thank you for understanding.

Regarding the long sword, I also showed the “general model” to Rike and she said, “It’s great, but it’s different from the one you showed me at that time though.” That was her impression. I will show how to do it tomorrow, and for today we will only make the mold for that.

Samia returned by the time the mold has dried and I had put off the fire in the smithy.

“I’m home.”

“Oh, welcome home. How was it?”

When I asked, Samia laughed and showed a complacent smile,

“Since you’re asking for it, I hunted a tree deer for you!”

She proudly said so.

“Oh, you did it. Today too, did you sink it in the lake?”

“Yeah. I have to extract the blood and cool it or else it will taste bad.”

There has been an increase in the number of residents here and furthermore, there will be no problem even if a little more food is secured from now on.

“Alright then, I’ll prepare the food first so both of you should wipe your bodies.”

“Okay”

“Understood”

For our dinner, since I run out of root vegetables, I will make something like a porridge with the barley, meat and bean soup. It has a lot of protein but it should be fine because our work requires our body to move.

“Rike, would you like to go with us tomorrow? We’ll be carrying the deer you see.”

“Is that ok?”

“It’s better to have more people.”

“Then I’ll go with you.”

“Un, I’ll be counting on you.”

At some point, it can be done even with only two people, but getting familiar with the work around here shouldn’t be a bad thing… should be.

“Speaking of which, uhm boss…”

“Hn? What is it?”

“Isn’t it about time to restock iron and charcoal? Do you have a supplier?”

“Hmm, that’s right…”

Although it doesn’t mean that it will run out in a day or two, it’s really about time to worry about the amount of iron ore and charcoal on hand. Up until now, I’m using the materials I received, so sales were entirely profitable, but from this point on, I will incur costs for my materials. So it is now necessary to sell the “luxury models” with the same cost and good interest rate.

However, it really can’t be helped without raw materials.

“I only started working lately, so I don’t have supplier yet. For the time being, I think it will likely last for a month…”

“During that time, we have to find a place to buy it, is that right?”

“Un. The next time we go to town, I will ask Marius-san or the peddler guy when I see him.”

“Me too, I’ll try to contact someone.”

“I’m counting on you.”

For now, I have no choice but to leave it to fate. Ah right!,

“Samia”

“Hn?”

“How is your arrowhead doing?”

“It’s still in great shape. When the tree deer turns into a big one, the skin around its back becomes hard. There are times when I can’t pierce it with my arrowhead before, but I can now pierce it without any difficulty.”

“Is that so? Oh yeah, you said that I shouldn’t give the heart to the wolves right? What should I do with it then?”

“Bury it in the soil of the forest.”

“Bury it?”

“Un. That’s how I return its soul to the forest. Then the forest will give it a new life.”

“I see…”

Is it like a primitive belief? Rike is also very much impressed, it seems to be the beastmen’s custom or it could be a custom applied only in this forest.

“Samia will have a break tomorrow after dealing with the deer right? Can you help me again?”Translated by Yume Neiji

“Oh, is that okay?”

“I don’t really mind.”

In this way, I think it would be nice if Samia would be able to do the work of Rike and Rike would be able to help Samia’s work, but, will it happen?

The next day, the three of us head to the lake. I brought the water vat and an axe. First, I will make a log carrier (like a roof rack), but when I tried to cut trees with the axe,

“Oh, b-boss! What is this?!”

“Hn? Ah, this axe?”

“Axe huh, this is really great!”

Rike was very excited. I should have shown it to her yesterday…

“Do you want to try it?”

“Is that alright!?”

“Yeah. Be careful, don’t be reckless or you’ll cut yourself.”

“Yes!”

Rike holds the axe I passed to her. Somehow, she looks like an amazing dwarf.

“Ok, I’m doing it!”

Rike hits the axe against the tree. Ko-on!, a pleasant sound echoed out but it looks like nothing is happening. Translated by Yume Neiji

“?”

Rike looks curious so I call out,

“It’s dangerous so don’t get near to it.”

“Eh? Y-Yes!”

Rike appeals to me, after I stopped her.

“It made a sound but there was no response…”

That’s just right.

“Oh- well, it’s about time.”

“?”

Just then, when Rike looked back, the tree falls down on the opposite side where she hit the axe.

“Eh—!?”

Rike exclaimed in a loud voice. Samia says,

“That’s shocking right? When I first saw it, I was a little uncomfortable. Despite that, Eizou looked calm.”

Samia expressed her sympathy. Did she really think of such thing in the past?

“Anyways, it cuts like that so be careful with it.”

“I-I understand.”

Rike feels nervous but it seems that she had grasped the trick because just like a while ago, about 4 trees are cut down and processed into logs.

“Your workmanship is pretty good.”

“I did something similar.”

Hmm, that’s normal since she has experience it before and besides, we are only going to build an extension. We then tie the logs together with a rope.

“Alright then, let’s go pull it up.”

After I called out, with splashing sound, Samia went into the lake where she sank the tree deer. It is pretty deep. With our heights, me and Samia can afford going in but Rike may barely reach it.Please read at yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“Rike, wait for a while here.”

“Yes”

Then, when I headed to the area where Samia is, the sunken deer is of a considerable size. It may be over 2 meters long.

“Oh, it’s pretty big!”

“Right? I injured it once but it still escaped, it took me a while to hunt it down.”

“Un, by its size, that should be true.”

With this size, it would have been difficult to sink it here.

“This would have been a difficult feat. You did great.”

“Hehehe”Please read at yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

As I complimented her, Samia feel delighted.

First, me and Samia pull the deer to the place where Rike is. From there, with Rike joining us, we pulled it together so we were able to pull it up to the shore very quickly.

After that, just like before, we drag the deer to the log carrier and fix the deer into it, after filling the water vat with water, we also fix it into the log carrier. Now that we are ready to move, the three of us drag the log carrier.

It took us about 30 minutes to get back to the house.

Well, it’s dismantling time from here. It is pretty big so it is more difficult to lift than the previous time. The process of stripping the skin was not that different from before, but Rike was surprised again by the sharpness of the “serious model” knife.

Since me and Samia use it on a daily basis, I didn’t cut any unnecessary parts but if I’m not used to it, I may even cut my skin. When taking out the internal organs, it’s also likely to damage the organs that shouldn’t be messed (like bladder, gallbladder or large intestines).

I promised to show the “luxury model” to Rike today, but the “serious model” knife may also be good for Rike. Please read at yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

Although the deer was large, it was quickly turned into meat. The amount of meat is plenty in proportion to its physique.

“With all this, even if all the three of us are big eaters, we have two weeks to spare. Samia, you’re a great help.”

When I said so, Samia replies,

“I-Is that so? Then I’ll catch one again next time!”

She happily said so.

Chapter 21: The road is still halfway

The next day, after we finished eating breakfast, me and Rike went to the place where I had loaded the timber two weeks ago. Samia goes out for hunting with a bento on hand. I said, “I would like to have deer meat today…”, I’ll be expecting it.

“Well, from today, we will use this lumber to build a new room. However, it will definitely take a lot of time so half of the day we will build a room and the other half will be for blacksmithing.”

“Understood!”

“Well then, let’s start!”

“Yes, Boss!”

Rike replies cheerfully. Then we get to work.

According to Samia, there are few earthquakes here and it doesn’t rain so much. Actually, it’s been a while since I came here and it didn’t really rain. Is it climatically similar to Germany in my previous world? The name of this forest is also “Black Forest” –Schwarzwald in German.Translated by Yume Neiji

Anyway this place doesn’t seem that humid. We will create the additional room by directly burying pillars without placing foundation stones. As for my previous world, even in Japan where there is high humidity, the Ise Grand Shrine’s reconstruction time is only once every 20 years. Even if there is a difference (whether someone will live in it or none), the pillars themselves should be the same or even better. So I thought there would be no problem with this method.Translated by Yume Neiji

We will dig the holes for the pillars with the hoe handle that was made in the previous work modified to be parallel to the blade, not at right angles. I forgot to ask Samia if it’s only the ground around here or the whole forest, but it’s quite hard soil.

With this hardness, I think it will be tough without a good hoe and strengthened muscular strength. I’m glad I had them, and I thank the one who gave them to me from the bottom of my heart.

Eventually we were able to dig deeply, in there, we will put the end of the log that will become the pillar. We then tied the log with a rope so we can pull it. As Rike and I pulled it together, the edge of the log caught on the edge of the hole, and the log stood up as it fell into the hole.

As the pillar stood up, we hold the log in place and steadily hit it several times to fortify the bottom. After that, I hold the log while Rike fill the hole back. We were able to build a pillar right away. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

The same work was repeated all morning until the pillars for two rooms were built. But it’s still a little unsteady, so I have to strengthen it tomorrow or it will be no good.

In the afternoon, it’s Rike’s much awaited blacksmithing time. For now I guess I’ll make her create a long sword in parallel with me. “General model” is already out of stock. So I’ll make two molds before lunch. After lunch, my work usually involves melting the iron and casting it in the mold but this time, I’ll only manage the fire and bellows (when I’m alone, I’m using magic to create wind). I decided to make Rike do the casting. She travels to broaden her views but it looks like she’s still proficient in using her hands. Soon after, the melted iron was poured into two molds.

While waiting for them to cool down, we’ll make knives to replenish the stock. I’ll do it first and then let Rike do the same.

Because my blacksmithing skill is a “cheat”, I wasn’t taught so similarly, I don’t really know how to teach her. In addition, we’ll be making the “general model” this time so I’m not really putting much effort during the process. I feel bad that I could only come up with the “look and steal” method. For today, she’ll learn like this.

I take out a sheet metal and heat it on the firebed. I hit it with a hammer to shape it, but while shaping it, I did not spend too much effort. During the process, Rike is trying not to miss any moment.

“How is it? Did you learn how it works?”

“Yes. Boss is amazing after all! It looks like you can hear the voice of the iron. But you’re not even doing it that seriously.”

“You can tell?”

“Yes of course! There’s not much power exerted after all. Above all, it can’t be compared to the long sword you showed me before.”

Ah right! Rike did look at the “luxury model”.

“This is what I can show you for today. Tomorrow, I’ll show you another one superior to this.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

 “Is that ok!?”

“Yeah. Though I feel reluctant teaching it to my disciple, it can’t be helped. Today, our target is to create stocks for sale so we only did this much.”

“Thank you very much, Boss!”

Rike is delighted that she’s even about to jump at any moment.

“Then next is Rike’s turn.”

“Yes!”

Like what I did, Rike heats the sheet metal on the firebed then hits it with a hammer. Perhaps because she is a dwarf, her appearance looks powerful.

Eventually, the sheet metal became a knife. She grabbed it with a pincher and lift it as it is then she looks at me.This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“How is this?”

When I was asked, I looked at it and there is not much difference compared to the “general model” I made. However, while heating and hammering, there was something like wee bit dispersion that occurs. How do I say it, it’s like the only difference is the iron formation. This may be the difference between the cheat holder me and Rike. So far, I’m convinced that Rike can definitely make my “luxury model”.

“Good job! However, you can still aim for a better one. I’m not really good at teaching. I can only tell you to observe and steal the techniques but you can definitely make the long sword that I showed you yesterday.”

When I praised her, Rike says,

“Yes! I will devote myself!”

With a smile on her face, she responded spiritedly.

Chapter 20: New Resident

Today, Rike is coming back with us.

I told her that we can come back tomorrow to pick her up but she is eager to go with us today, so I consent to it. If we take our time here it will eventually get dark and become dangerous, so I ask Rike to pack her luggage quickly so we can go home early.

Fortunately (?), since she was not sure when she would leave, it seems that she always keeps her luggage at the ready. She immediately descended from the second floor. However……

“Are you alright with that luggage?”

“Yes. I’ve came this far with this in tow.”

“Is that so?”

Rike is carrying a rucksack about half of her size. I don’t know if it was done during her travels but there are traces of repairs here and there. But, as Rike says, she came this far with that so I guess it’s okay to walk just like this.Yume Neiji

“Then, let’s go right away. Even though we have Samia with us, it will be difficult when the sun sets.”

“Okay, Boss!”

Rike answers cheerfully. Let’s make her stop with the boss thing

The three of us walk to the main road in a hurry. Aside from me and Samia, Rike drank a fair amount of sake and her luggage was big but she’s walking steadily. Is it because she’s a dwarf? This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

Then we arrived at the forest entrance more or less 20 minutes earlier than usual.

“We’ll be going through the forest from here on so don’t stray from us.”

“Yes, boss!”

“If by any chance you got lost, I’ll surely find you so don’t make any loud voice. If there’s a dangerous being in the area, I’m afraid you might attract it instead.”

Samia warned her.

“Y-Yes, I understand.”

“We will take a break after an hour, so please do your best until then.”

“Yes!”

Then we start moving into the forest. Rike wasn’t too worried, but it seems like she’s not used to walk in the forest, she occasionally trips over tree roots and grass. Even so, we still didn’t get late. She was able to keep with us until the first break.

“Rike, are your legs still fine? If you feel any pain, just say so alright?”

“No, I’m fine. This is nothing.”

“In cases like this, it is more dangerous if you overdo it. If you feel any discomfort, please tell me immediately.”

“Yes. I understand, boss.”

Then, after about 1 hour after moving again, we arrived at my house. We barely made it before the sun set, my house stood in the dim light. On the way, Rike didn’t collapse nor complain that her legs hurt.

“This is our house and it’s also our workshop.”

“Wow, it’s pretty big.”

“Well, yeah.”

At least she’s more surprised at the sudden appearance of such a house.

 “Are your legs alright?”

“Yes. I’m fine! It’s easier to walk than what I expected!”

“Is that so? Then let’s get inside for the time being.”

I used the key to remove the bolt and opened the door.

“Yes!”

Pitter-patter, Rike goes in. Samia follows right after.

“Samia-”

I called out to her.

“Hn? What is it?”

“Thank you.”

I knew that Samia chose a route that was easy to walk on and less likely to meet other creatures. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“O-Okay…”

Samia enters the house looking flustered and bashful. I remember that she laughed after Rike called me boss but, this girl, in times like this looks really cute.

I let Rike and Samia put their luggage in the bedroom while I head to the study to put mine, then I prepare our meals quickly and the three of us surround the dining table.

“Well then, it’s nice to have you here but there are not enough rooms to sleep in. So, Samia and Rike will sleep in the bedroom for the meantime.”

“Eh? No, I will feel bad! I don’t want to get in between you two. I also have camping equipment with me, so I can just set it on this floor.”

“Hn? Even now, me and Samia are sleeping separately, so nothing will change in particular.”

In fact, Samia still slept in my bedroom and I was sleeping in the study. Samia said she can now give up the bedroom for several times, but each time, I refused. By the way, I am sleeping with a blanket now, and surprisingly, I can sleep more comfortably than I expected.

“Eh, is that so? Even though you’re a couple?”

“Puuh!?”

Samia spouted the deer soup she was eating before I can even react.

“I–I–I-Idiot! What are you saying?! Me and Eizou aren’t like that!”

Samia fiercely protests with most likely a bright red face. I’m not really sure about beastman’s complexion.

“Really? When I first met you, Samia-san is always protecting boss. And after that, you can communicate with just glancing at each other and from the way boss speaks, I can see that he also cares for Samia-san. So I’m certain that’s the case.…”

Rike thought it’s strange. It’s only been about a month since I met Samia, but since we’ve been together almost all the time, we were able to naturally convey our thoughts without speaking like telepathy to a certain extent. Samia generally understands what I want to say. However, being noticed like this… it’s a little embarrassing.

“Well, that’s how it is. There’s nothing going on between me and Samia for now. We’re like a family though.”

“Since you’re both living in the same workshop, right?”

So in a dwarf’s sense, living in the same workshop is equal to a family huh.

“Yeah something like that.”

When I glanced at Samia, I’m not sure if she has already recovered considerably but, she’s curled up while drinking soup. Not good, so this is what she means….

“Well then, for that reason, two girls will stay in the bedroom and the man will use the study room. That will be our room allocation. As the owner of this house and as the boss of the workshop, this is my decision and it cannot be changed.”

 “Yes”

“Ye-s”

Rike and Samia responded. Probably they are not convinced with this but I have no choice but to push through with it.

“Well, please bear with it until each room is created.”

“Speaking of which, do we already have lumbers?”

“Yeah. We already secured enough… I think. It should be dry soon so we can start tomorrow.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“I understand!”

“Okay”

Thus, the resident in my house increased by one more person.

Chapter 19: Disciple

“P-Please raise your head.”

I call out to the woman in a hurry. However the woman did not even budge.

“Please I beg you! Make me your disciple!”

This… don’t tell me she won’t move unless I make her into my disciple? If she won’t move even a bit

People are already gathering around the area. In any case, I don’t want this woman and above all Samia, to be left in the center of this curious crowd.

“For the time being, I will close the store, let me hear about it then.”

After saying that, the woman starts to stand up. Without delay, I close the shop with clattering noise. I want to leave before the guards come. I don’t want to bother the guards too much.

This is the fastest time so far that I tidied my things, holding the sales stand, the three of us went to return it then we met Marius-shi. However, he’s extremely relaxed…

“Oh, you finally met the dwarf young lady huh. That’s good, I’m glad you two met.”

“Ah yes! Thanks to you.”

The dwarf woman smiles and answers back. Ah, she must be the one Marius-shi mentioned this morning....

“Marius-san, I wish you have told me more about this a while ago.”

I softly protest to Marius-shi.

“No, the result wouldn’t change even if I told you about it and I also couldn’t do anything about it.”

That’s right… but at least I should have some mental preparation.

“And I was able to see that surprised expression of yours. Normally, you have this usual surly face, so it was also profitable for me.”

I even thought that he came out at the right timing but it seems that he was watching from afar while using the pretext of patrolling or something.

“That was terrible…”

“Well, please forgive me. Events like this are the only fun things happening around here you know.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“I’ll take it as you owe me one for this.”

 “I understand!”

And lastly, Marius-shi jokingly salutes. I don’t think he’s a bad person, but there are some things I’m not good at. In any case I made it as his debt.

I said goodbye to Marius-shi and after I returned the sales stand, we went to an inn in the flea market. As expected, there is a bar on the first floor and accommodations on the second floor. This dwarven woman has been here for three days.

“I’m Rike Moritz”

Said the woman. I’m holding a big mug –not a glass but a small barrel with a handle –though it was not the ale, isn’t this a brandy?

“Family name?”

Samia mumbled that question. Then,

“Ah no, not that, Moritz is not a family name but a workshop name.”

“Workshop name?”

This time it was my turn to question. Samia is drinking ale next to me.

“Yeah. Dwarves basically come together in a few families to have a workshop. People born and living there give themselves the name of the workshop. My name means I’m Rike from Moritz Workshop.”Translated by Yume Neiji

Like that of a clan, it’s like introducing oneself with the name of the village huh.

“My name is Eizou. This is Samia.”

Samia glanced at me. Probably because I didn’t say “Tanya”. I can introduce like that to Rike-san but I don’t know who’s listening at the bar so I refrained from doing so. It’s a bit troublesome if you have a family name in this world, and I don’t want to take the risk for it.

“Nice to meet you.”

Samia curtly greets.

“Likewise, please take good care of me. Eizou-san… Are you a northerner?”

“Ah, that’s my country of origin. Due to various things, I settled down in the “Black Forest” and work there as a blacksmith.”

“I see…”

As she listened to my story, Rike-san pondered about it.

“Is there anything wrong?”

“Ah, none. I was wondering about it as I didn’t see any blacksmith that could make such items before I came here.”

“Ah……”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

I drink the contents of the mug. It’s a wine diluted with water, not so good……Contrary to how I look, I am vulnerable to alcohol.

Well, no one makes a workshop inside the forest normally. It seems a water wheel is used to move the hammer so it needs to be near running water. I wonder if it’s close to a hydraulic hammer used to forge in the previous world. In my case, it was already prepared in the forest, so there’s no use in arguing about it.

“It would help me a lot if you won’t pursue the circumstances in that area deeply.”

“I understand. I’m not interested about it in particular.”

Rike-san says so readily.

“So why do you want to be my disciple?”

I corrected the flow of the conversation.

“Ah, yes. About that topic, it will take a little longer as I explain.”

Rike-san drinks the contents of the mug and exhaled.

“Me and my younger brothers left our workshop to visit workshops in various places in order to study. And if we are to find a good workshop, we would enter as a disciple then eventually go back to our original workshop to craft new things using the techniques we learned. Afterwards we will return to the workshop where we are accepted as disciple. That’s how dwarves live.”

Oh, those information are not “installed” in me. Since it doesn’t contain the detailed ecology of animals, I wonder if it’s because of that. Well it’s more fun that way, but…

“That kind of thing… If it’s done poorly the technique might leak so doesn’t everyone usually refuse?”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“Yes. Having a dwarf wanting to be a disciple is normally an honor for the workshop. If everything works well, that workshop will also gain merits.”

But I don’t know ordinary people who aren’t blacksmiths, so at that time I was more curious than the surprise of the apprentice thing. If I was seen by blacksmiths in this town, then there is a possibility that I will incur their envy, right? Leaving immediately is the right choice… No, wait, who does Marius-shi really looking out for? Guess it’s alright, I’ll just have him return this debt in a different way.

Rike-san then continues.

“So, when I arrived in this town about three days ago, I saw that guard I met earlier use a knife, then I inadvertently inquire him about it. I want to be the disciple of the person who made it, so I asked him to tell me where you live. I thought you are a blacksmith in this town at that time.”

“Umm, then you thought I made it, huh.”

“Yes, but I don’t know your name or where you live so I come to the flea market once a week. I was told that you might be coming now since it’s about a week when you last came here.”

“Surely that’s how it is now.”

“So this morning, I watched my younger brothers set off and then come to take a look at the long swords. Then I thought that I want to be your disciple after all and learn this technique.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

 “I see…… Eh?”

She just said something I’m worried about.

“Your brothers are no longer here?”

“Yes. They have a workshop they should go to.”

Rike-san smiled sweetly.

“Then, if I refuse here…”

“It’ll be a woman travelling alone, and then search for the next workshop.”

No, I think it would be dangerous. Or rather, she anticipates and purposely says it…. I think I’ll accept here. I still think I’m too naïve for my own good.

“Okay. I approve you as my disciple.”

Samia next to me took a deep sigh. Im sorry. But didn’t you expect it?

“Is that ok!?”

“Yes. However, there are four conditions.”

“Y-Yes, what are those?”

“First, like Rike-san did this time, resolving yourself to be a sacrifice is something I don’t like. Please don’t do it in from now on.”

“Yes.”

Rike-san sits up straight and nods.

“Second, we don’t have enough rooms. We will start with your room construction.”

“Yes, I’m use to it. Even at Moritz Workshop, if the family had children, everyone will help in building a new room.”

“Third, it’s related to the second one, but I will ask you to help in various tasks other than blacksmithing.”

“Yes. That’s what it meant to be a disciple.”

“Fourth”

“Yes”

“Let’s drop the honorifics. I’ll call you Rike, so Rike should just call me Eizou.”

“No, I can’t call you that, Boss!”

Samia, who heard it look in amazement.

 “B, boss…”

“Yeah, I’m a disciple that’s why calling you Boss to show my respect is logical!”

Samia, who finally couldn’t hold it in, laughed. I’ll remember this.

With this, I made a disciple, which I thought would still be a long way-off.

Chapter 18: New Things

The next day. Me and Samia headed to town. I’m troubled if I should bring the spear for self-defense but I haven’t tried it yet so I left it. I have to test it tomorrow….

We arrived at the town without any incident. The guard at the entrance is still Marius-shi. In his hand, he holds a spear which is a supply item while the long sword, “a personal property that he brought by mistake” is on his waist.

“Oh, you’re a little early this time.”

“Yes, I have stocks now.”

“I see. Is the product lineup unchanged?”

“That’s right. Today’s products are the same as before.”

“I see. There are long swords right? I’ll inform the others.”

“There is. Thank you very much.”

“Ah-, also…”

“What is it?”

“No, nothing. You’ll know it once you go to the flea market.”

“…..? I understand. Well then, bye.”

“Yeah”

Marius-shi’s evasive manner of speaking caught my attention but today’s goal is to sell things then buy salt and the likes. We headed for the flea market. Today as well, I’m the one who carried the goods so I headed straight to get a stall area by myself. In the meantime, I asked Samia to do the shopping.

I paid as I normally did then pick up the stand and look for an empty space. It seems that the middle-aged receptionist remembers me a little, he’s unusually very friendly today.

Since the same place from before was taken, I put my sales stand at a slightly off place and start preparations for opening the stall. I can’t find the textile dealer today. We came early this time so maybe the day we came to sell didn’t match, or maybe he didn’t come for a while… I feel a bit lonely since I don’t have acquaintance here.

Today’s products are the same as the last time so I briskly prepared it and I’m now ready to sell. Of course, in this flea market there is no opening time, so the actual opening is right after the preparations were completed.Translated by Yume Neiji

And then I waited until noon, the peddler who bought the long swords last time came.

“Oh, how is it doing?”

He asked freely, so I answered back as well.

“Well, today’s no good.”

“Even one?”

“Uh, not even one.”

“Well then, I’ll buy all of the long swords.”

“Eh? Is it okay?”

“Yes. The one I brought before was well received by the one I resold it too. He also asked me if I still have some more stock.”

“Oh-, if only I knew, I would have brought the ten long swords I made all night.”

“You are already afflicted of the craftsman’s habit huh.”

“I’ve been hitting iron throughout the week, and sometimes I want to worship silver you know.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“I see. I know that feeling.”

Then we laugh together. The peddler guy really bought all four long swords. Today’s purpose is almost complete.

Today I brought the “luxury model” too, but I can’t find a customer to sell it to. However, if I do it like that, it won’t be sold forever. I need to find a way or another to sell it, the next time the peddler guy comes, I think I can leave it to him.

While I’m thinking about that, Samia came back from shopping. What she bought today was salt to make salted venison and some street food for lunch. For the food that she bought from a food stall, it is a toasted bread with sliced pan fried wild boar and sweet and spicy sauce added on top. This dish is as appetizing as I described.

It’s not like pizza or hamburger but it’s so delicious that it became my regular meal when I come here. There are a lot of complicated rules inside the wall, it seems that one needs to buy each separately, but since this is the flea market outside the wall, there is no such rule applied so it’s possible to have this dish.

After my belly was full, I sold some knives to “Ichigen-san”, then “that” came.

At first glance she looks like a child but, she’s a woman with a firm build and is looking around restlessly for something. Upon seeing her, Samia mumbled something and she whispers to me,

“That’s a dwarf. It’s unusual.”

“Are they few in number?”

“I don’t see much around here. I once guided a guy who came to the forest up to the highway but that’s the only time I saw one.”

“Is that so?”

I’m able to see a rare individual huh.

This is a little nice. In addition she’s a dwarf. It is a familiar race. There are dwarves huh….. Elves are likely to be in similar condition. Let’s ask if Samia haven’t seen one this time.

The dwarf woman hurriedly headed for the knife left on the stand. Looking at her face, her nose is slightly round? Other than that, she is almost similar to human beings. However, her arms and legs are firm. It’s only lesser than those bodybuilder in the previous world, looking at her I got an impression that she’s training in the gym.

“Uh-, Uhm!”

“Yes. What is it?”

I’m a little surprised as the woman started talking enthusiastically.

“Are you the one who made the knife of the guards!?”

“Yes, I’m the one but…”

Samia changed her position a little. I don’t think something will happen, but I’m a little happy that she’s doing her job as an escort well. The woman notices this but with a “whew”, she continued. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“Is this knife the same as that of the guards?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Can I look at it?”

“Yes, feel free.”

The woman pulls out the knife from the sheath and observes the construction of the blade and handle. And after observing for a while, she said,

“Can you show me the best product here?”

“Eh? Well, it’s alright but…”

My best product huh…. I think that the knife she’s looking at is as good as the blacksmiths here, but looking at the knife and saying, “Show me more”, seems like she’s not that confident about it. I am thinking of selling it someday so I don’t mind showing it.

I took the “luxury model” long sword off my waist and gave it to the woman. The women receive it carefully and gently pull it out of the sheath. Although I only used moderate amount of power, the blade came out pretty good. On the contrary, when it comes to this area, even a very skilled blacksmith will not be able to do it. If I sell it, even if it’s 10 times more than the “general model” she can’t protest.

The woman kept observing the long sword much more carefully than when she observed the knife. She was observing it for so long that I sold a knife to another man who was interested in what she was doing. I even have enough time to say “thank you for your continuous patronage” to the guy. During that time, the woman continuously looks at the sword. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

And when I thought that it’s about time to get it back,

“Thank you very much. I’m now returning it.”

She returned the sheathed long sword.

“Thank you…”

Then, the moment I received it, the woman moved. Samia immediately respond to it, pulling my body backwards and positioning herself in front of me.

However, the posture that the woman took was not to attack me, she bent her legs, her hands on the ground, and her head lowered – it’s a dogeza!

In this world, there is also dogeza!? Shockingly, in the midst of the flea market, the woman shouts in that position.

“Please make me your disciple!”

For a while, I could only look blankly.

Chapter 17: Hunting Result and help

We brought the tree deer close to the house, I then hung it upside down on a tree nearby and peel it off. Perhaps because the knife is extremely sharp, I finished peeling it in no time.

Before I cut off the head, Samia pointed out some part in the horn and said,

“Here, these are broken marks.”

“Oh, it’s true.”

When I was told to look, I saw traces of broken branches here and there.

“Because of its big size, when it runs away from a forest wolf, some of the corners of the horn will collide somewhere.”

“Heh, looking at it like this, it’s easy to tell.”

“Right?”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

Samia said so proudly. I think it’s purely amazing to have this knowledge.

“I already removed the internal organs, what should I do with it?”

“Just put it there, the wolves will come and eat it. If not, just leave it to the forest.”

“I see…”

Leave it to the forest she says… There would be various problems if this was done in my previous world, but it is not a problem here huh.

I then cut the meat into pieces, I found out that the meat looks exactly like what I’ve seen in the previous world.

“What about the remaining bones?”

“Go a little further from here and just throw it away. That will also be eaten by the wolves.”

“If we do something like this often, it’s likely that they will follow us here.”

“Apparently, they did sometimes you know.”

“As I thought! They are here?”

“Yeah. Even if they don’t follow us, they find it hard to attack beastman and those who smell like humans. They know that even if they don’t hunt themselves, they can receive a fair share of the prey.”

“Looks like they’re smart huh.”

“Yeah. Otherwise, they can’t survive in this forest.”

“Well that’s right.”

If they carelessly attack a hunter, then they will be the one hunted next time. There are rouge ones too so I don’t think that there will be no casualties, but not many will think so.

For today’s lunch and dinner, I decided to have grilled deer meat. The rest will be hanged in the workplace to make some dried meat. I work on the fire bed almost every day over there so the temperature is quite high and humidity is basically low. But one of these days, I want to make a smoked food shed or a warehouse.

With that in mind, when I had finished hanging the meat, I cut down some trees again to make them into woods. With this, I’m done with today’s work.

The next day, Samia take a break on hunting. It is said to be a custom here. Well, even if she acquires so much meat, we can’t consume it all, and we won’t be able to reduce the stock by catching too much. I think the custom is decided because of that.

So today, I decided to make her help a little with my work.

Since I’m making long swords today, I ask her help in applying clay to the wooden mold first. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“This is pretty interesting.”

“Right?”

To some extent it’s close to playing clay. We divide and bury it in the sand. When dividing, she is delighted to see that it was beautifully shaped. The next thing to do is deburring. I hit the hardened part that sticks out of the mold with the hammer to clean it off. I showed one model and have her do the rest.

“Oh-, this is also interesting!”

“Really? Then I’ll leave the rest to you.”

“Ok!”

I finish the blade in the meantime. I was able to finish two on this day. With Samia’s help, we worked like this for two days. I completed four of the reduced long sword in stock.

“Then, I’m going to hunt today.”

“Alright, take care. We’ll go to town again tomorrow so don’t overdo it.”

“I understand. I’m off.”

I wave my hand as I see Samia off. She nimbly gets over the underbrush and disappeared into the forest. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

Now then, I suppose I’ll be working on the next production. There are many variations that can be created. Now that I have knives and long swords, let’s make a spear.

From the branches of the tree that I had saved when making the lumber, I select the one with a length of about 140 cm and cut it into bars. After I have created a rod, the next step is to make spikes and ridges.

For the head, I hit the plate material to make a square pole, I extended the base part to form it into a cylinder and I made sure that the pole can be put in. I strike the tip of the head to make it sharp, and when it is shaped like a combination of a square pyramid and a cylinder, it is completed.

There are some with more blades but it is my first time creating one, this will be used particularly for thrusting.

The butt end is made of iron with the same weight as the head made into a cylindrical shape, after processing the part where the rod is to be inserted, I slightly sharpened the opposite side and it’s done. After quenching the tips, together with the butt end, I insert them into the rod. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

The short spear was completed.

This is my first creation, so I made it a “highest grade model”. Therefore, it cannot be sold. In case I got additional escort other than Samia, it may be possible to give it to that person…

This day, I finished one short spear. This is thanks to my magical tools and my cheat, otherwise it will probably take more time. With that in mind, I turned off the fire in the workplace, confirmed the dryness of the meat, and ended my work for today.

As I am thinking if I should start preparing dinner, Samia returned.

“Welcome home.”

“I-I’m home.”

Samia still felt bashful. I also felt awkward so I want her to get used to it sooner.

“What have you got today?”

“Today, I caught leaf birds!”

Samia is holding two birds. It is about the size of a crow in my previous world and its wings resemble the leaves of the trees around it. Birds too camouflage themselves in this forest huh.

This should be hard to find, furthermore, it must be hard to shoot it down. I think Samia is probably better but still, she only caught two, this is also a proof of that.

“Well then, shall we have this today?”

“Okay, I’m looking forward to it.”

First of all, I need to pluck the feathers. The flight feathers have a beautiful jade color, so I set it aside and decided to use it for decoration (if there’s a time where it could be used). After that, I earnestly pluck the other parts. The plucked feathers could be made into a futon or a pillow, but when I asked Samia, she said, “There aren’t many people who do it with leaf birds”.

I don’t think I can get that much. Besides, when the amount of bird feathers is small, it’s not suitable to be used, that’s what I’ve heard in my previous world.

I cut off the wings then roast the fluff with the magic stove and bake it. I open the belly and take out the internal organs. Maybe I can eat the gizzards and liver, but I decided to throw it away this time. Samia also said, “I don’t eat those”.

After separating the breast part, I cut the wings and thighs at the joints then preparation for the meat is now complete. I decided to roast it with only salt.

Today we spent a little festive night with deer soup, yakitori and unfermented bread.

“We’ll go to town again tomorrow, but I think we no longer need to buy salted meat.”

“Okay, I’ll catch some again next time.”

 “I’ll leave it to you.”

I said so while smiling.

Chapter 16: Hunting Time

Thank you very much everyone for your continuous support (by reading here). This advance chapter is sponsored by Ishvaaku. Happy reading!!! ◕‿↼

The knives were sold quite well and the long swords were finally sold out except for the “luxury model”, this time I was able to get a good result. We bought some food and with this, we can afford to live leisurely for another week. Yume Neiji’s Work

When we get home, out of the wheat we bought, I grind it till it’s powdered, put it in a wooden bowl then add some water and salt before kneading it. I’ll let it set for a while and in the meantime, I organize the food we bought. Samia will go hunting from tomorrow, so while the sun is still out, she takes a look at the condition of her bow.

Once I’m done, I spread the kneaded dough thinly and bake it in the frying pan. This unfermented bread looks like the one called chapati in my previous world. We will have this plus dried meat and root vegetable soup for dinner.

“How is your bow?”

“Hn? Ah, there is nothing wrong. I used two of Eizou’s arrows and it’s perfect.”

“I’m glad. More than that, what will you hunt tomorrow?”

“Hmm, maybe tree deer or a boar….. then if there are also birds, I want to catch some.”

“If you can catch them, we will have more variety for our meal.”

“Right! I’m already looking forward to it.”

Samia’s tension is obviously going up. This must be the influence of her blood as a tiger beastman. We were tired as we just went to town and we also have plans for tomorrow so we went to bed early.

The next morning, I see Samia off, she’s wearing a leather armor and carrying a bow. Her bento is the unfermented bread baked yesterday and some dried meat.

“Take care. If you come across the big black bear, turn back quickly.”

“I know. See you late~r.”

Samia left quickly. Well then, shall I start my work too?

That said, today is basically replenishment of reduced stock. 4 knives. Long swords will not be possible today, so I’ll do it tomorrow. Iron material is still in stock, but it will run out soon, so I need to find a supplier. If my items sell well at the current pace, it would be better to look for a wholesale partner.

However, it wouldn’t be possible to make them get it from here. I realize it when we made several round trips to town, living in this forest and going back and forth with no harm is largely due to Samia’s contribution as she can detect danger ahead of time.

For example, if I had already stepped into the wolf’s meal scene yesterday, I don’t know what would have happened. Maybe I can fend it off, but I may also be harmed and above all, it would have consumed a considerable amount of time. Then I had to go back wherein the forest is already dark. Going through the dark forest, I no longer need to think how dangerous it could be.

Considering that, do I need a cart now? It’s still okay to bring the stock for a while, but I may reach my limit so it might be good to have it now. With that, I decided having one.

Whether to make it by yourself or buy it…

If I make my own, I need to cut down some trees again to secure timber. However, it may take two weeks. Well, I think I can go to the town 2-3 times in the meantime. Yeah, I can afford that much. I’ll just make it myself, and if it can’t be helped, I’ll just buy it.

Until around evening, I am making knives while thinking about such things but the quality of the products itself is the same as the conventional “general model”. Up to this point, because of my cheat, even if I don’t concentrate I can make things better than those blacksmiths. I can’t say whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing though, it’s a bit worrisome.

However, I wonder if this is what it meant by crafting things for a living, but it’s my precious second life so I’ll gratefully use the things I received. After I stored the finished knives, Samia returned. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“I’m back!”

“Welcome home!”

Seeing me greeting her back, Samia felt bashful.

“What is it? Is something wrong?”

“Nothing, somehow….. right now, I’m a little….I am just happy that’s why…”

“Ah….. It feels good when there’s a person welcoming you home, right?”

“Uh, yeah”

In my previous world, it was the kind of happiness I never had. I wonder if that’s what Samia felt. She said that she was grateful for my help, but I wonder what her life would be if I didn’t save her or if she wasn’t attacked by the black bear, maybe she will be a hunter in the forest, or she could marry another beastman and have a child…

No, according to the “watchdog”, even if it’s not me, there would be someone who will help. Was it good or not that it’s me? I have to make her feel that she’s fortunate it’s me.

“And, what is your game?”

“I killed a forest deer. I was able to pull it off and I put it in the lake for now. I’ll go pick it up tomorrow morning.”

“Let me help you carry it tomorrow. You can wash your hands then.”

“Yup”

And it is the usual scenery of the dining table.

“How is it? the arrow and knife.”

“It’s incredibly good! The arrow pierced deeply and when I used the knife, I was able to handle it smoothly. It saved me a lot of time.”

“I see. I’m glad it was useful.”

After that she explained how she struggled to stop the tree deer, she explained it while gesturing, I smile as I listen to her story.

The next morning, me and Samia came to the lake. I also brought a rope and an axe from the workshop. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

“Uhm……”

I’m trying to find where Samia sank it.

“Ah, it’s that one. There’s an arrow stuck on it.”

“Oh, there sure is.”

“It’s pretty deep from there too.”

“Let’s get going?”

When we approached it, I found the big deer’s body sinking in the water.

“Let’s first pull it up to the shore. Eizou, lend me a hand.”

“Okay”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com

The two of us hold the tree deer’s foot and drag it up. It’s easier than I thought, more or less it’s because of the buoyancy.

After carrying it to the shore, we cut down two trees of an appropriate size with the axe, cut them into appropriate lengths and put them together with rope to make something like a roof rack. Then we tied another rope to the end to make it pullable. After we placed the deer on it, we are ready to go.

Me and Samia pulled it together. Whether our strength is strong or the tree deer is lighter than I thought, we were able to move smoothly. We got home in about 40 minutes.

Now, it’s time for dismantling.

Chapter 15: Eventually it becomes normal

“Samia-san”

“What’s with that! It’s gross.”

“How harsh. Well, anyway, I made knives and long swords as new products, I’m thinking of going to the town again to sell it. It’s been almost a week since we last went there, right? We painstakingly made people remember us. If we don’t go there for a long time they may just forget about us, that will be such a waste.”

“That’s also true… OK, I’ll go there with you.”

“Sorry, I know you’ll resume hunting soon.”

“It’s fine. I’m not in a hurry for that.”

Then me and Samia prepare to go to the city and leave.

Samia has a bow and a knife. It is better to have a means to attack from a long distance especially in an emergency. Moreover, the arrowhead of the arrow that will be nock on the bow is my special products.

I put all the knives for sale together in a rucksack, and put the quick food on the way in another pouch and tied it to my waist. I was wondering what to do with the long swords, I fixed it on the rucksack and tied it up. I kept one on my left hip and the self-defense knife is on my bosom.

And, (This appearance is the one I saw in illustrations in my previous world!), Samia noticed my mood as my inner thought and great joy reflected in my expression.

“What are you happy about?”

“None, I wish I could sell the long swords.”

“Hmm…”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

Although I’m pretty suspicious, Samia didn’t pursue any further. Does she think that I sometimes get used to being happy in strange places, or does she think that craftsmen are all weird?

We went through the forest. With the long swords, it’s much heavier than usual but since my muscles were strengthened, I didn’t slow her down. If we have to rest often, I’d consider introducing a cart, but for now it’s not necessary.

However, if for example I have 20 short spears and 20 long swords, it will be physically difficult to carry it in the first place. Eventually, time will come where I need to introduce it.

……In line with that, it may be better to cut down the trees from now.

We took short break in between. In another 30 minutes, we should be on the main road but Samia suddenly came to a halt. There must be something.

“What is it?”

“The smell of blood is so confusing that it’s hard to understand. There’s a carnivore out there. This is….. forest wolf huh? It’s probably aware of us being here.”

“What should we do?”

“Let’s observe for a while. The smell of blood means that it probably caught some prey and is now eating it, if it’s happy with it, it won’t come to us.”

“I see.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

“If it comes after us…..”

“If it comes after us?”

“At that time, it’s time to put that thing hanging on Eizou’s hip to good use.”

It’s smarter to listen to Samia’s opinion as she’s a senior resident in this forest. A little while later, Samia speak in a soft voice.

“As I thought, we need to get away from there.”

“Is that so?”

I was relieved. The benefits of the weapon hanging on my waist will be useful in the event of an emergency, but even so, it’s for sale, so I want to avoid things that will stop it from being sold. Fortunately, we don’t need to do that.

As we walked down the road again, I asked Samia.

“What do forest wolves hunt?”

“What you ask, there a lot of things. Most of the time, tree deer. The rest should be grass rabbits or rats. We also hunt tree deer, we don’t eat internal organs other than the heart so we entrust them to people who come and join us during the hunt.”

When I asked about “grass rabbits” and “rats”, “grass rabbits” have thin ears and are usually green in color, they look like grass. While “rats” are earth-colored and live by digging holes in the soil. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

Basically, it seems that the creatures in this forest have survived by mimicry. They camouflage themselves to deceive the eyes of their enemy. In other words, living in this forest, they made themselves hard to be identified especially from the sky. I think that there are good creatures above the pyramid of the food chain. For example, dragon…..

“Hey, is there a dragon here?”

“Dragon? I haven’t seen one, but I’ve heard that there is.”

There are dragons huh. I want to see it. But I don’t have the confidence that I’ll be able to survive. Let’s save that for the last fun on this second life.

We were able to get to the city without any particular problems on the highway. It was Marius-shi’s turn guarding the entrance.

“Ah, thank you” I said.

“Oh, it’s you guys. I was worried because you didn’t show up.”

“My bad, I got out of stock so I just made new ones. Thanks to Marius-san.”

“That time huh. I was a little surprised at that time too. I’m sorry if it caused you trouble.”

“No, no, there’s no trouble at all.”

“That would be fine… Is that what you’ll sell today?”

“Yes, I will sell the usual knives and a long sword this time.”

“I see, I’m going to drop by again later, so pleases save one for me.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”

After exchanging greetings with Marius, we head to the flea market. As before, I paid the entrance money, set up the sales stand and lined up several knives and a long sword there. The textile seller last time is close next to us so I raised one hand to say hello.

Well, today’s business starts.

Since we’ll be free for the meantime, I ask Samia to run errand for me. In almost one week, our  food has decreased considerably, so we have to replenish it. The cost can be covered by the previous sales.Translated by Yume Neiji

This time, 4 pieces were sold from the time Samia went to do the errand and returned. Apparently, the guards like it and there are plenty of opportunities for them to show it off.

Besides the knives, two long swords are also sold. The same person bought both of them. He is a peddler who travels to far places and he plan to resell one somewhere far, the other is for his own use. He laughed and said, even if it didn’t sell, it won’t cause him a problem as he’ll just carry it. As a peddler, he wants to carry as many items as possible that can be sold for sure, I think he probably has someone to sell it to.

But a trip huh. I also yearn to travel. If I can afford it, maybe I should organize a company trip with Samia? I just don’t know when.

And on their way back home, Marius-shi bring along one of his colleagues and I sold two more long swords.Translated by Yume Neiji

“Is it alright? I’m thankful that I can sell my items, but isn’t those armor set loaned by the lord?”

“That’s what I use for my duties as a guard, but that’s not the case if I use it for training myself, and it’s inevitable that I’ll accidentally bring what I used for training.”

Marius-shi, winks by saying so, he looks more good natured.

Chapter 14: One’s dearest wish

Thank you very much everyone for your continuous support (by reading here). This advance chapter is sponsored by Ishvaaku. Happy reading!!! ◕‿↼

“I got a long sword, yea-ah!”

“Even if you kill him, seize the sword!”

“W-What are you doing?! You bastards!”

Without further ado, I finally made the first long sword.

When Samia saw me doing this farce alone,

“What are you doing Eizou……?”

Cough! Other than being astonished, she received no harm.

The long sword was created by a method similar to the arrowhead production. I made a wooden mold (male type), cover the wooden mold with clay and dry it. Then I divide it in half to make another mold (female type). The wooden pattern can be used several times, but eventually it will break down, so if that happens I have to remake it.

I buried the female mold in a barrel containing sand then I poured down the molten iron in the furnace into the mold. Took it out when it cools down and remove the “burr” part, heat it and reshape the small details a little. Finally, quench and lightly grind it to complete the body. After that, the leather is wrapped around the handle and I proceed to make the sheath.

Basically, I made “general model”, several of them and only one is a “luxury model”. I decided to engrave a “figure of a sitting fat cat” on the handle of this luxury model. I saw this on SNS in the previous world, I used the cute cat I liked as the motif.

Originally a professional craftsman is in charge of the sheath and such sculpture, but I have cheat for products that can be made in a blacksmith shop. It’s hard to say it’s perfect as I’m not yet used with the “installed” experience but the result can be seen having good quality.

Of course, I didn’t forget to make arrowheads in between. In the end, it took about 5 days to make new stock of knives and make long sword.

Hmm, its about time.

“Eizou”

Right after I finished sculpturing the long sword, Samia spoke to me.

“What is it?”

“It’s about time that I go back to hunting.”

“I see. Well then, I’ll attach arrowheads so I’d like you to bring the shaft to the workplace.”

“Alright.”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

I went to the workshop first and prepared the arrowheads and the hammer I made in between these days. Samia then followed suit bringing several thin shafts.

After sticking the shaft into the hole that was left open, I carefully hit it with the hammer and crimp it. If it becomes misshapen after installing it, of course, the accuracy will be greatly affected so I worked with all the power I could have.

Though I’m talking about myself, as expected of a cheat holder, it is almost perfectly attached. There may be some discrepancies, but the precision is not something that can be done by craftsmen so far…

I think, maybe. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

As I was working on the 10 of them, Samia opened her mouth.

“Hey…”

“Yup?”

I reply while working.

“Didn’t you say that you want me to live here before?”

“Un, I did say that.”

“That… is that still applicable?”

“Of course, I don’t remember saying it was already void.”

“I… When Eizou saved me before, I’m really glad. Since I came here, I haven’t done much yet but helping you is fun, Eizou’s stories during mealtime were also interesting. I like to watch as Eizou create things, so…”

Samia’s words stop until there. As a human, it’s hard for me to identify the age of a beastman, but she should be much younger than me because of her voice and gestures. The fact that a child of age is willing to live with an old man like me, even if I’m certain that I don’t have the same intent for example, means she has guts. As I do my work, I wait for Samia to continue.Translated by Yume Neiji

“So… is it ok to live here with you…?”

“Well, I’m the one who told you to. So as long as you’re okay with it, why not.”

Upon hearing it, Samia exclaims while hitting my back.

“Yehey! Thank you Eizou!”

“Un, don’t mention it.”

“It’s just right! I’m really happy!”

“By the way Samia…”

“Hn? What?”

“How old are you?”

“How old you ask, by my looks… Ah, right! It was hard for humans to know.”

“I know you’re young though.”

“I’m 5 years old”

“…Ha!? 5 years old!?”

I was so surprised that I can’t help but raise my voice. I knew that she is young, but the age of five is a bit too much to imagine. Beastman’s child are that formidable? When I was five, I was probably a lot more childish.

“You’re that surprised huh. It seems that beastmen and humans have different ages.”

Oh, right! Even in the previous world (and maybe this one), dogs, cats, and humans have very different ages. I think it’s similar to that.

“Then how old are you in human age?”

“Well, I guess I’m 25 years old. But from this point on, my appearance doesn’t change much. If humans live till 80 years old, I’ve heard that we could live about 50 years.”

“I see…”

Is there a difference in life span? Still, it is considerably longer than ordinary dogs and cats. It’s double.

“What about Eizou?”

“Hmm?”

“How old are you Eizou?”

“Oh, me?. I’m 30 years old.”

I’m 40 years old “inside”. I was probably about 30 years old when I saw it on the lake before, so 30 years old should be fine.

“30 years old huh”

“Is there something?”

“Hmm, None. I’m 5 years old, but considering the age of the people I met, I’m wondering if you’re older.”

She has sharp thinking, probably because she’s a beastman.

“Don’t worry, humans aren’t as good as beastmen, when we’re 30 years old, we’re already stuck in one leg.”

I decided to dodge the question by saying that.

“Well, I finished it while we were talking.”

“Oh… Oh-! This is excellent! Nice one Eizou!”

Samia is so excited seeing the attached arrowhead. It seems a bit strange that a young maiden frolics with an arrowhead, but well, I’m honestly glad that she is happy with my work.Translated by Yume Neiji

“Thank you.” She said.

Chapter 13: Expansion

Thank you very much everyone for your continuous support (by reading here). This advance chapter is sponsored by Ishvaaku. Happy reading!!! ◕‿↼

All 10 knives I made were sold out.

That’s unquestionably gratifying in itself, but of course, it’s out of stock until the next one is made. I can take a break from selling to town for a while. Well, I had no choice but to do my best on the production later but there are few things I want to do before that.

First of all, the development of new products.

That said, it’s not necessarily a big one, I’m about to make some long swords. My idea is to sell this to some peddlers (or their mercenary escorts). It will be a little better than a knife. Ah right, arrowhead too. If I forget to make those, Samia will be in a sulking mode, so I can’t forget that.Translated by Yume Neiji

Next will be the expansion of the house.

Samia now lives here so the number of tenants has increased, thinking about it, there is no guest room. This house is near the edge of the “Black Forest”, and there’s quite a distance to travel coming from the town.

For ordinary customers, it will be okay because I just have a meet them and hand over what they have ordered. But when someone like a friend or business partner (with whom I have a closer relationship) comes, they can’t stay overnight.

That will somehow be in the future, I can go out of the forest for the meantime. For now, I’ll increase the number of rooms by two, I think it will be fine for a while.

Of course, I needed material for this but unfortunately there are no dry timbers here. If we cut down some trees around here, we can get timber but it will take at least two weeks to dry. It would take more time to make a room if we do that. However, it’s a little too far to buy in town…

Since I don’t have any other choice, I decided to procure locally.

As I said, this place is inside the woods. There are a lot of materials around but I also need tools to get it. I need axe and saw. There are axes that I made before, but those are “commercial products”, and I’m not supposed to use them. With that, I’ll make a special one that is for my use.

……I feel that there are more and more things to be made but I like making things, so yeah, I don’t feel worried about it.

First would be the axe and the saw. I made the axe by stacking a metal sheet and heating it in the fire bed, I forged it till it was made into a thick metal sheet, then comes the shaping and hardening. I made it to cut a tree so I didn’t make the blade sharp.

The large saw was done by hitting the metal sheet till it turned into a thin one. After making the saw blade with chisel, it was completed by sharpening it with a file. It’s easy to say but I’m not yet used to it so I worked for a whole day just with the large saw alone.

And of course I didn’t forget to make arrowheads during the intervals. The arrowhead is made by pasting clay on a wooden model to form the mold then by burying it in the sand, I can create a template where the molten iron in the “furnace” is poured and take it out once it has cooled down. The arrowhead itself is completed by heating the place where the molten iron is poured to make a hole into which the shaft will be inserted. Then finally, sharpening the blade.

The work left is to fix it on the shaft that Samia has, I finished it a day before Samia goes hunting so there is no problem.

At last, I could now start logging. The area around the house has a little open space but it’s still surrounded by a dense forest. A little bit more and it will be like a little garden, even if I expanded my fields, I probably won’t receive divine punishment for it.

While I was making the axe and other things, I asked Samia to fetch water (but only about half of the jar) and other chores other than preparing the meals. Today, I ask her help with the saw.Translated by Yume Neiji

If you’re asking why I’m in charge of the food all the time, according to Samia, “Isn’t it obvious?, Eizou is better than me in cooking!”

……She can tell me anything, but if I get praised I’ll get soft.

I carry the axe I made and stand in front of a tree. After positioning myself like that of a batter in baseball, I strike the tree with the axe blade.

(Ko-on!) A nice sound that seems to have escaped to the sky echoed out at a considerable volume, but there is no change in the tree….. I thought so, but the tree I struck slipped on the opposite side and fell down. (Zuzun)Heavy vibrations echoed out.

The cross section was clean like it was passed through a lumber machine in my previous world. I can really feel proud of this finished product but experiencing its “cutting” effect is shocking. If I didn’t cut carefully, I might be done for already and my second life will end right here.

Considering future things, I cut another one. I didn’t forget to cut down in a downward direction. There was a loud noise and vibration again and the second tree was safely cut down. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

I brush the branches of the cut down trees with the axe. Normally, a thin branch is better cut with a sword, but this is an axe I’m proud of. I was able to cut the branches off without any difficulty. I then strike the axe vertically considering an appropriate length. (Ko-on!)  I heard that sound once more but it looks like nothing happened. However, this is cut off properly. As evidence of this, when I pushed it down, the part I cut rolled down.

I repeat this process several times and when it’s ready to make a board,

“Samia!”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

I called out to the house in a loud voice. After a while, Samia came out of the house with a large saw. I already told her that once I called her, she will then help me out.

“It’s finally my turn huh!”

“Yeah, but don’t be rash. In addition you don’t need to exert much power”.

“Un, I know. Eizou, you really give your best making this huh?”

“’coz it’s my own tool.”

“Alright, don’t worry. I’ll cut it quickly.”

“Ok”This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

The cut tree was placed between me and Samia, we stood as if were sandwiching the fallen tree with a large saw in between. We cut it horizontally to make a board. Normally, it should have taken some power and time, but we progress smoothly as if we are cutting tofu.

“Wahaha! What is this! This is wicked!”

It’s so smooth that Samia laughs.

“If you laugh too much, you will tremble you know.”

“I know that! I’ll make sure to be careful!”

Eventually, it took less than 10 minutes to put the large saw once.

“At this rate, I think we can cut them by today.”

“That’s Right. Normally it would take more time, but it’s Eizou’s tools.”

We had to spend a whole day (with lunch and breaks in between) but we were able to complete cutting out the boards and stacking them for drying.

At last, from tomorrow, I will start working on the production of the long swords.
