Walking, Chapter 295: The Margrave appeared

Just as we were in the middle of that conversation, the guild receptionist stepped into the private room.

“Guild Master… um… the Margrave has arrived.”

“““Eh?!”””

Her words hit us like a bolt from the blue, and all of us stared in shock.

The Margrave—here, at the Adventurers’ Guild? I never imagined someone of his stature would come in person.

And yet, the Guild Master didn’t seem the least bit shaken. If anything, he looked like he had expected this all along.

“Sigh… so he came after all. I suppose he’s the type who prefers to deal with troublesome matters directly, isn’t he?”

“Hahaha, as sharp as ever. You read me well. Is this what they call a long-standing acquaintance?”

A man entered the room with a laugh, answering the Guild Master’s musing as though it had been directed at him. He got a towering figure—a silver wolf beastman of striking appearance, clad in lavish attire that spoke of both power and nobility. There was no doubt about it. He has to be the Margrave of the western frontier.

Without a hint of hesitation, the Margrave strode over and took a seat beside the Guild Master, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

“A group of interesting talents has shown up huh. Oh well, along with a complete fool, it seems.”

“““M–Margrave, we sincerely apologize for the trouble we’ve caused!”””

The Margrave spoke of the incident with a booming laugh, brushing it off as if it were nothing—but Sue, Casey, and Telma sprang to their feet. Their faces drained of color as they bowed deeply in apology.

Watching them, the Margrave gave a small nod, tilting his chin as if in mild approval.

“You three aren’t at fault here. Especially you two. You were simply following that idiot as adventurers. I heard he was making a fuss in a neighboring territory too, claiming he couldn’t stay at a beastman-run inn. Sigh… things like that happen several times a year. Not worth losing sleep over.”

Hmm… perhaps it was that bold, beastman way of thinking, but the Margrave laughed off the commotion at the inn—something I myself had witnessed—as if it were trivial.

But then, his expression shifted.

“All that said… entering the territory under a falsified adventurer registration is unacceptable. You, at least, entered my domain with legitimate adventurer cards, so there’s no issue there. But using a fraudulent card to gain entry into a Margravate is, in essence, trespassing. And that applies to anyone—noble or not. Not just in my lands, but in any territory.”

Ah… I see. So that’s how it works.

Forging an adventurer’s card is, of course, a crime in itself—but more importantly, without a legitimate card, one isn’t even permitted to enter the capital in the first place.

Had he presented some form of noble identification, it might have been a different story. But that man entered the city using a falsified adventurer’s card.

At this point, even if he were to produce proof of nobility, it would already be too late.

“He’ll be charged with illegal entry into my domain. That fool will be taken to a military facility for interrogation. I doubt he’ll be seeing freedom again anytime soon.”

The Margrave declared flatly.

I couldn’t help but wonder why that guy would take such a risk just to come to the western frontier.

Perhaps it wasn’t merely about asserting dominance over beastmen…Maybe he had some other motive altogether.
