Chapter 80: Start of a communal life

As expected, Samia and Diana are back. Shortly after the naruko rang, the door connecting the workshop and the house opened.

“I’m home… oh, a customer?”

“Yeah, uhm…”

Diana asked. Speaking of that, I didn’t get to hear the woman’s name.

“My name is Liddy.”

The elf woman –Liddy-san stood up and bowed as greeting.

“She came here to ask me to repair her sword.”

I added. Then,

“My name is Diana. I am staying at Eizou’s workshop, I’m pleased to be your acquaintance.”

Diana, still in her easy-to-move clothes, greeted her with a bow (like how the nobles do their greeting gracefully). Well, regardless of her outfit, she likes greeting in such way. And yeah, it’s only natural because she is the Count’s daughter after all. I wonder if she’s wary because she didn’t include the Eimurl House’s name during her greeting though. But I think, that the fact that she’s from a high ranking family has already been revealed through her greeting.

“I am… called Samia…?”

Samia is kind of weird. It’s good if she remembers her. Shall I leave it to Diana…?

“I am an apprentice at Eizou’s workshop, my name is Rike.”

With a small bow, Rike greeted her flawlessly. Rike may be the only one who acts per usual here. But as she looks very young, it feels very unbalanced. Anyway, these are the members of my Eizou family.

“Well, Rike knows this already as she already heard about it but, uhm, this sword is so important that Liddy-san will stay with us during the repair period.”

“I’m sorry for the troublesome request…”

When Liddy-san said that, Diana was full of joy.

“You’re saying that I get to live with an elf!?”

She’s so thrilled. She even forgot to ask for her age first, she’s far more curious than Samia.

“N-No, it’s only like she’ll be supervising, it’s a little different from living here.”

“But she will be living together with us, right?”

“Well, yeah. She’ll be staying with us.”

“Then, it’s possible that she’ll live with us for a while, right?”

Ai, you’re already this elated so I wouldn’t argue with you anymore.

“Well, yeah. Speaking of that, while I’m preparing our dinner, Diana and Rike, please prepare the guest room.”

“Got it”

“Understood”

Diana and Rike nodded and went inside the house.

“Samia, what did you guys catch today?”

“Oh, some leaf birds. About 5 of them.”

As expected, since we still have enough meat on stock, they hunted for a smaller prey. Still, this will be convenient because each person can have one bird to fill their belly.

“Alright then, Samia let’s quickly pluck the feathers.”

“Okay”

Just as Samia and I were heading back to the house,

“Uhm……”

We were stopped by that thin voice.

“Can I help too?”

Liddy-san offered. I’m grateful that she offered to help but still a guest…

“I used to handle birds in the village so it’s fine.”

Is that so? It seems that the elves in this world usually eat meat huh. If she said that she only eats vegetables, I’ll be troubled because we only have dried root vegetables available here. This is such a relief because we cannot simply get a supply of those from the depths of this forest. Fruits can be managed to some extent but even though she’s a woman, it’s not enough for an adult to eat just one meal. Should I buy more vegetables the next time I go to Camilo’s shop?

“I’m grateful for that, it really helps. Can you please?”

“Yes”

When I said that, from the time she came here, Liddy-san smiled for the first time.

Me, Samia, and Liddy-san plucked the feathers of the birds. I boil water in a large pot and dip the birds in it then we plucked the feathers. It took a decent amount of them and when it’s finished, I cut the meat into parts using the knife. At that point, the guest room was also readied so I asked Liddy-san to leave her luggage in the guest room. Other than Liddy-san, the others took care of the tools we used while I prepare the supper in the meantime.

Liddy-san arrived today so I made the meal a little extravagant with bird sautéed in wine sauce. We also serve wine (sake for Rike) and we all prayed, “Itadakimasu” and saying, “Cheers”, we toast our cups.

Liddy-san seemed confused at first, but I explained that we often talk about what happened that day and that it was our custom to have dinner (although it’s the same for breakfast and lunch) in a lively atmosphere, she seemed to be convinced and she joins in the conversation from time to time. She may have to spend about two weeks here so I hope that she gets used in living here as much as possible.

The next morning, I finished fetching water and cleaned myself up. It was still a little crowded with five people washing in the tub, but I don’t feel as cramped as before. I wonder if the difference from when Helen was here was due to the difference in their body size.

After we were done, we had our breakfast next. The menu consisted of the usual root vegetables and salted meat soup, and unfermented bread. Liddy-san didn’t seem to have any complaints, and I secretly felt relieved. The most disheartening thing about a change in one’s living conditions is that the food is not to your liking...

Well, at least that’s what I think.

After our breakfast, I make a plan for the day’s work. I asked Samia and Diana what they wanted to do, and they said they wanted to watch me repair the sword too. It’s not like I’m going to reject them, so with Liddy-san’s permission, I consented.

Of course, Liddy-san, will be watching me work too. In other words, today is the day when everyone observes me work. Well, there’s nothing wrong with that either. I then lead everyone to the door of the workshop.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 55: What is Ninjutsu?

After we arrived at the neighboring city, all of us were fascinated by the view. Crent City appears to be a completely different city compared to Mana.

“Whoa! There are lots of flowers!”

“Crent City is known as the City of Flowers after all. There will be many tourists here especially at this time of year.”

I look at the scenery while listening to the conversation between Erna and Freya. Flower fields fill the area around the city. Pink, yellow, and purple petals fly in the air every time a gentle wind blows. The sweet scent that drifts in the area makes my heart feel radiant.

“Father, what is that person doing?”

The person who Pero pointed at is sitting on the side of the road and was holding a sketchbook as his hand moves his pencil on it. Apparently, he is drawing the image of a flower garden.

“He is drawing the landscape. He’s probably a painter.”

“Heh-, I want to draw too.”

Pero look enthusiastic as he watches the painter. Seeing that, I begin to think about Pero’s future. If things go on as it is, it is possible that fighting will become my son’s only redeeming feature. If that happens, I will surely regret it.

“Alright, let’s buy a sketchbook for Pero.”

“Really!? Is that okay !?”

“Of course. If you have something you want to do, just say it.”

“Yehey!”

Pero was more than happy. Even if he is known as a sacred beast, he is still a child. Thus, he must cherish his childhood time. When we reached the entrance to the city, the soldier who was guarding the entrance blocked the way.

“Wait! You can’t let a magical beast go inside the town!”

I already expected this, we were stopped like this in Mana City too. Well, with Pero here and as we are riding on a black unicorn, our group would look suspicious.

We got off the unicorn and presented the card issued by the guild. After he received it, the soldier quickly confirms our identity and then he looks at us with a look full of shock.

“Y-You guys are those rumoured adventurers? Then… this child you have with you is the sacred beast ?”

“If you know about it, this conversation will be quick then. Pero is indeed that sacred beast, and we are riding a unicorn. I’ve heard that it’s okay for them to enter the city right?”

“Y-yeah. There’s no problem with that but… a black unicorn?”

The guard returned our adventurer cards but he is still tilting his head in confusion. Apparently, he is still wondering about the black unicorns but he let us through.

I’m not telling a lie because they are really a unicorn. It’s just that they have different color and ability. When we entered the city, many people were coming and going. The building structure here is similar to Mana, but overall, with the colorful flowers everywhere, it looks bright and beautiful.

“Whoa, the flowers sure are breathtaking!”

Erna and Pero watch happily as a flower-laden wagon passes nearby. It is a scene that makes me realize that this is indeed a foreign land.

“So where does the client live?”

Upon Freya’s question, I checked the copy of the request form.

“It was written as number 3 on the main street. The client seems to be Professor Jill.”

“Speaking of Professor Jill, isn’t he a prominent person in magical beast research?”

“Hoh-, is that so?”

“Yeah, he’s famous for astonishing the world by saying that goblins are demi-humans.”

By the way, when I appraised the goblins, I feel that there was such a description. It doesn’t matter to me if the goblins are magical beasts or is a demi-human, but there are races in the world that care about such trivial matters.

As we go down the main street, we found a store. Art supplies were displayed on it and several men, who are painters, I suppose, were looking at the products.

“Pero, shall we buy a tool for your painting too?”

“Yes!”

Leaving the unicorn to Erna and Freya, me and Pero enter the store. The store was filled with the smell of paper and paint. Even I, who’s not into painting pictures, felt intrigued.

“As expected, the paint is expensive.”

The blue paint I picked up is very expensive. The cause lies in the material that produces the color. Paints are made from stones and plants, but some of them are made from jewels and other powders. In that case, the price will inevitably rise.

The advent of cheap paints like today is only recent. In a different world where science and technology have not been developed, it seems that paints are naturally treated as expensive items.

“I just need a pen and paper.”

Pero saw the situation and only brought a pencil and a sketchbook. I am trully impressed such caring son.

“Don’t worry. My wallet still has a lot of gold coins in it.”

“Really? But, I just need this.”

It seems that Pero really only needs a pencil and a sketchbook. Well, I don’t really need to rush. We can just come here to buy it when he needs it. After I paid it, we joined Erna and Freya then we head to the professor’s house.

“This seems to be the 3rd street.”

The house Erna pointed to was a two-story, quite a luxurious one. The sign says Professor Jill, and the post has a number of envelopes that could be the letters for him.

“Is he not around?”

“Well, we will know by knocking on the door.”

“Knock, knock”, Erna knocks on the front door. There was no reaction the first time.

“Can’t he hear me?”

After Erna knocked harder, the door finally opens up while someone from inside shouted, “Who is it! You’re so noisy!”. Wearing a red robe, a middle-aged man full of stubbles, peeked and glares at Erna, who was hitting the door.

“What?! Is this another aggressive peddling!? If that’s the case, go home!”

“No! You’re mistaken.  We are the adventurers that you nominated! We are here by your request!”

“Ah? Adventurer?”

The man gave Erna a ridiculous look. The conversation seems to be going for the worse so I gently placed myself between them.

“We are Homeless adventurer party. The other day, I accepted a nomination request from Professor Jill. Don’t you remember?”

“Homeless… Nomination request …”

The professor murmured. He did not seem to be lying, it appears that he can’t really remember.

Did he forget what he requested?

“I was asked to take a Lich’s skull…”

When I said so, the professor suddenly changed his expression.

“Yes! Yes! Lich’s skull! I’ve been waiting, get in, get in quickly!”

The professor opens the door widely and finally welcomes us into the house. For the time being, I left Freya and Pero outside. I can’t say that no one in Crent City would dare to aim for our unicorns after all.

After the professor guided us to the living room, we respectively took a seat. I took the Lich’s skull out of the bangle and put it on the table.

“This is the skull of the lich that we killed.”

“Indeed, this looks like a lich’s. How about the other bones?”

“If you need it, I can sell it too”

Then I take the Lich’s body out of the bangle. The professor begins to enthusiastically observe the bones on the table.

“It’s still firm and heavier than normal human bones, probably because it contains a lot of magical power. In that case, it may really have a built-in magical circuit that connects from the head like I expected.”

He showed a faint smile while he’s touching the bones. At times, people who are devoted to research really appear crazy. Professor Jill has that kind of atmosphere now.

“Uhm, Professor, can I get paid now?”

“Hn? Oh, were you still there? There is money in the cupboard over there. Take some home appropriately.”

When I opened the cupboard as instructed, gold coins and silver coins were kept there in a mess. Apparently, money doesn’t matter to him. After receiving the reward amount offered in the request, me and Erna decided to leave the house.

“That person is really weird.”

As soon as we leave the house, Erna spoke those words. I can understand what she wants to say. He’s definitely a creepy one. It’s really hard to understand why he wants the Lich’s bones.

“Welcome back, how was the reward?”

Freya asks while eating a balm fruit. I took out a few gold and silver coins from my pocket and showed them.

“By the way, what’s with them lying there?”

Five men were lying near Pero and Freya. All of them were holding knives and swords but they fainted with their eyes rolled back.

“They threatened us to take the unicorn, so Pero-sama and I put them to sleep.”

“Oh, I’m indeed right to leave Freya and Pero. Otherwise, the unicorns might have kicked them to death.”

“Indeed. They should be thankful for not being killed.”

Even in a town that seems to be safe, there are still people like this. It seems that it’s better to keep an eye on the area around the unicorn in the future.

“Hey Shinichi. What are we going to do now?”

“Hmm, we are done with our business here but there’s something I really want to find out. Can we roam around for a while?”

“Are you looking for the girl who had an incurable disease?”

“Yeah, I’m still curious about her.”

I want to know what happened to the work I received. Was the girl saved? Or, did she die? If she is still suffering from the illness, I want to help her in everything I can. I ask the passerby about Duffy and the girl who is suffering from an incurable disease as we walk.

“Duffy-san? That person lives in a house on the main street.”

After getting such important information from an old woman, we immediately headed to the house where Duffy lived. It was a house on the side of the main street. It’s a little old, but it looks like it is still in a good condition.

I immediately knock on the door of the house.

“Who is it?”

The man who opened the door is definitely Duffy.

“I’m the adventurer who you asked for help previously. Do you remember me?”

“Of course. Tanaka-dono of Homeless, right? So, what did you came here for today?”

“Actually, I was worried about the girl Duffy was treating so I came to hear the story. Can you tell me about it?”

Duffy thinks a little and smiles faintly.

“Then you can meet her in person.”

He got out of the house and then we started walking to somewhere with him. The direction we are heading to is towards the center of the town and I can see a large mansion.

“The mansion in the center of the town belongs to the Baron. We are heading there now.”

“Hn? Are we going to the Baron’s mansion?”

Inwardly, I’m totally baffled. I did not really consider it. However, the girl with the incurable disease turned out to be the daughter of an aristocrat!

Upon reaching the mansion, Duffy lightly greets the soldier guarding the gate and enters. Perhaps he is a doctor of this aristocrat family. Otherwise, he can’t go in with just his face as a pass. We also entered the mansion without any problems and a butler appeared and guided us to a room somewhere.

Upon arriving in front of the room, Duffy opened the door without hesitation.

“Liz, I brought you a visitor today.”

Duffy said to the girl lying on the bed in the room.

She’s a young child with her short blue hair. Her barely opened light-blue eyes shift their gaze to me after looking at Duffy.

“That……”

The girl’s mouth moves slightly and produced a small voice. However, I couldn’t completely hear what she had said.

“As you can see, Liz is weak and can’t speak properly.”

“Did you use the forked centipede as a medicine?”

“This illness has few precedents and limited treatments. It’s because of that medicine that she’s been able to speak this much now.”

What? Even after taking that medicine, her state is….

I was totally at lost for words.

“U…ugu…”

The girl gently stretches her hand. Her hand was very weak and it looks like it’s about to break. Then, a yellow dot appears on the girl’s forehead.

“…………Huh?”

I rubbed my eyes. As expected, it is not my imagination. A yellow dot indeed appeared on her forehead. Apparently, my skill, Life or Death technique, activated without me doing it.

“Excuse me”

I gently pressed on the girl’s forehead. With Erna as an example, it is better to push it.

“Argggghhhhhhhhh!!?”

Liz screamed and began to struggle.

“What the hell did you do!!?”

Duffy desperately holds Liz down. Liz struggles with a power that doesn’t seem to be of a little girl as she’s trying to free herself from Duffy. After a minute or so, Liz ultimately calmed down.

“What have you done…? I didn’t let you meet Liz to…”

Duffy drops his shoulder and his expression darkens. However, I had this strange confidence. –That Liz has recovered.

“I’m hungry…”

Liz who got up from the bed spoke in a small voice. Duffy was stunned at first, but gradually turned into a crying face and hugged Liz.

“Yes, I did it! I diiiiiid iiiit!”

“Duffy-san, you’re noisy……”

With her eyes half-closed, Liz appeared to be indifferent towards Duffy who’s making a fuss. She doesn’t look like the girl who was very weak until a while ago.

I suddenly got curious so I decided to analyze Liz.

【Analysis Result: Liz Schmidt: The third daughter of the Schmidt family. She has been lying on the bed since she was 11 years old but she finally recovered. She originally hated troublesome things so she is annoyed by the racket beside her bed: Rarity B】

Chapter 79: Details of the request

“I see……”

I groaned at the sight of the fragments spread in front of me.

“So, what kind of repair do you want?”

Does she want it to be restored to its original state (which is now completely unrecognizable), or does she just want it to look the same? If it’s the latter, I can do it by tomorrow, but if it’s the former, it’s obvious that I’ll have to take a lot of time doing it. I can’t really do something like the restoration of Fresco painting in my previous world.

“Of course I’d be more than happy if you can restore it to its original state.”

The woman client says with a voice that sounds like a ringing bell.

“But if that’s not possible, what you did at your outmost would be fine.”

In other words, she wants me to put my best. This is not really a huge career, but it’s true that my craftsman’s blood was ignited when she said that.

“Hmm-, one more thing, did you come here alone?”

“Yes, I came here by myself.”

Since Samia is not here, I don’t really know the full details, but at least, I can’t feel somebody else’s presence around here so I don’t think she’s lying. Since she met the condition for making an order from scratch, for now, it’s fine right?

As I was considering whether or not to accept the request, the woman followed up quickly.

“Uhm… I used my concealment magic along the way, is it not allowed?”

She asked. It seems that since I was still thinking about it, she thought it was better to say how she came here alone.

So she has concealment magic huh.

“No. It doesn’t matter what means you used, as long as you can come here alone, there will be no problem.”

I smiled and answered back. Well, I don’t mean to be so strict either… The woman felt completely relieved when she heard what I had said.

“Alright then, I’m accepting this request.”

“Really!?”

With a jolt, the woman suddenly stands up and asks in a loud voice. Um, she’s pretty loud now…

“Oh, I-I’m sorry…”

She reverted back quickly and sat back in the chair dejectedly. It was only for a moment, but maybe she’s back to herself now. Otherwise, she wouldn’t want to come to such a place like this either.

“No, don’t worry about it. So, by when should I complete it?”

“I’ll be grateful if you can finish it sooner. But, can I ask for it in about two weeks at the latest?”

“I understand”

2 weeks? I think I can restore it to a good state then.

“Uhm, I know this will inconvenience you, but, in during the repair time, can I look at its condition every day?”

“You mean…?”

“It’s not that I don’t trust Eizou-san, but you know, if something happens, uhm, just in case…”

“Ah-, I see”

Well that’s a given, it’s a Mithril sword after all and it also seem to have a long history. And in case I took this with me (that’s unlikely of course), that would obviously be a bigger deal compared to looking at the fire on the fire bed.

“I don’t mind that. But, wouldn’t it be too hard for you to go here every day?”

“No, it’s fine if you can lend me a part of your garden.”

She said that in a matter-of-factly manner.

But even though its near the house, will it be okay for a woman to sleep in the forest? There are no bandits here, but wolves and bears are common...

“There are some ferocious beasts around here you know?”

“Eh? With the magical power around your house this strong, they probably won’t come near, right?”

“Eh?”

This is my first time hearing that. By the way, I don’t know much about magic.

“This “Black Forest” is a land with a lot of magical power, but the magical power around this house is particularly strong so even the trees are not growing that much around here. That’s also why ordinary beasts do not approach. I was even impressed that you chose this area because you knew about it…”

“No, I didn’t know that at all.”

I didn’t have a choice in the first place. But now I understand. No wonder the wolves seldom pass by, in other words, there’s no such thing as a squirrel relaxing on a timber.

“I heard about this place because I saw the Mithril rapier you forged. I was convinced that you have the skill to weave magical power neatly, but, maybe that too…”

“It’s all thanks to my craftsman’s intuition.”

I can’t say it’s due to my cheat. I can’t say I’m hitting it knowingly either. When the woman heard that, her shoulders dropped more. Uh, I’m sorry.

But now I got to know two things. This elf came here as she probably saw the rapier I forged during this couple of days after the delivery. Then, she went to look for Camilo and ask where I live.

The next one is about the performance of the custom model I made here and the reason why it didn’t work when I made the same thing in the Capital. From what this person says, it seems that products made by incorporating magical power will be stronger. Since the magical power of this place is strong, it is possible to contain a lot of magical power. But when I’m in the Capital, it can be inferred that the magical power there is too thin so the knife can’t contain enough magical power. Thinking about how it worked by mixing my custom made knife which has enough magical power in it, the whole picture now fits together.

“Leaving that topic aside, even if it’s okay with you, I can’t leave a woman outside you see. Fortunately, we have a guest room here. I know there may be some inconvenience for you, but please stay there.”

The woman who has been slumping her shoulders seemed to have recovered a little.

“Will that be okay? You have your three wives with you right?”

“…There are indeed three women in my family, but, I don’t have a wife so please don’t hesitate.”

Camilo is the source of this information for sure. Let’s see the next time we meet. I’ll remember this.

“Alright then, I’ll take your words for it.”

The elf woman seemed a little confused but she eventually bowed to thank me. Helen said she’s going away for a while so I don’t think there will be any visitors for a while. This should be fine I guess.

Then at that point, with “Cling-Clang” sounds, the naruko in the workshop rang. Samia and Diana are back. I looked at the door leading to the house, wondering how I can explain this to them.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 54: I decided to go to the neighboring city

After returning to the hideout, we decided to take a nap for awhile. After about five hours, we got up, get dressed and prepared the things we need as we’ll leave the hideout. Of course, our destination is Mana City. When we went to the vegetable area in the miniature garden, the skeletons were busy working in the fields.

“Suketarou”

When I called out, Suketarou, who was packing the harvested vegetables in a box, turned around. It seems that they are in the process of packing the vegetables to be wholesaled in the market.

“Katakata”

And apparently, this is the last batch to be boxed. I put the packed boxes in the bangle and help on Suketarou’s work.

These big white radishes are not for me, but when I think that it will go into someone else’s mouth, it makes me feel a sense of fulfilment. After we finished putting them in the box, we wrapped it up and we are done. After storing it in the bangle, I went to see the soybeans.

“Katakata”

In the second vegetable field, Lich A was in the process of sowing the soybeans in the field. In the corner of the field, the replanted parent soybean had already spread its leaves. So far, I don’t feel that there’s a problem of having a soil variance. I’m looking forward to the harvest day one week later.

We then moved to the second miniature garden. There, some skeletons, and Lich B as the leader, felled the excess trees in the area and cultivated the soil. The range they are working on is about 20m in radius with the big balm tree on its center. Then after that, the skeletons bury balm seeds in the cultivated soil.

That’s right, I’m thinking of growing additional balm trees. I’ve already got Super Sensation skill, but the balm tree has excellent fruit. So I decided to increase the number of balm tree. Orange is one of my favourite fruits too. Even if there’s a lot, there will be no problem. Next, if we can have a kotatsu, it will be wonderful.

“Ah right. Freya should also eat some balm fruit. It should be useful in the future.”

I take some balm fruits from the skeleton, I throw about four of them to Freya. After Freya received it, she stared at the fruit puzzlingly.

“…This is…?”

“It’s a balm fruit. As it will enhance your senses, you can acquire the Super Sensation skill if you eat it.”

“Oh, that would be wonderful. I’ll get started then.”

Freya quickly peeled one and chewed it. Pero, who was nearby, held his nose and began to run away. The truth is, Pero does not like balm fruits. Kobolds do not seem to be bad with citrus like fruits but Pero seems to be an exception. Rather than as a tribal thing, perhaps it’s just that it is not to his liking.

Thus, Pero doesn’t seem to have the intention of acquiring the super sensation skill.

“You’re right! This fruit is delicious! I like its taste!”

Freya doesn’t even notice that Pero has escaped, and happily eats it with matching chewing sounds. Then, something strange happened to her senses.

“This is……!?”

Apparently, she already developed the super sensation skill. She acted suspiciously as she looked around the area restlessly. It seems that she is perplexed by the unfamiliar sensation she’s having.

“Once you have acquired the skills, you will soon get used to that feeling. You should eat the fruits until you acquire the beginner level of the skill.”

That said, one can get the beginner level of the skill with about four fruits. I gave Freya about four more fruits and then we moved towards the third miniature garden.

“Katakata”

Lich C looks at us and gives a bow. Mushrooms are cultivated in the third minature garden. And the person in charge here is Lich C. The other skeletons were working on building a mushroom nursery by bringing in the felled trees.

Cure Mushrooms are useful as a recovery medicine, so I should avoid consuming them all. Thus, I thought about raising them myself too. Their number is easy to grasp and can be stocked too. If they grow too much, I can sell it somewhere far too. Besides, various mushrooms have been breeding here since before. Well, we can also grow mushrooms and sell them to Mana City’s market. Of course, the cure mushrooms are not included.

“That’s……”

Incidentally, I noticed that a hut has been built. It looks like the skeletons made it. When I looked inside, there were many wooden boxes with some soil on it.

“Katakatakata”

According to Lich C, magical beasts came to eat mushrooms too, so it seems that only precious mushrooms will be cultivated inside the hut. I’m even amazed when I saw the mushroom he’s talking about. Lich C took out a golden mushroom from of his pocket. Lich C found the second golden mushroom. However, nearly half of the mushroom is gone. It must have been eaten by the other magical beast as Lich C said.

However, that also means that what is currently being raised inside the hut are golden mushrooms. I was impressed with Lich C’s idea. If he’s my employee, I want to promote him as an executive.

“I’ll leave the mushroom cultivation to you. Do it well and show me what you’ll produce.”

“Katakata”

Lich C knelt on one knee and bowed his head.

Once we are on the ground, adventurers are lined up at the entrance to the dungeon as usual. Most of them are young people, and as they eventually advanced as adventurers, you can get this impression that they are excited about such opportunity. Ah, the day when corpses will disappear from the Mohed’s Great Dungeon may not even come.

On a closer look, several adventurers seemed to be scared when they saw Freya. Well, Freya’s appearance drastically changed due to her evolution. Passing by with such unusual four arms, she would look strange indeed. I immediately took out ocher-coloured robe out of the bangle and handed it to Freya.

“Thank you. I completely forgot that I had evolved…”

“Um, it’s better to keep only two of your arms out of the robe.”

This case is not only for Mana City’s residents. Humans in general hate unorthodox things. They will even try to eliminate those that are different from their selves. Therefore, to avoid troubles, it is better to hide it for now.

“Now for the mail…”

I searched inside the mailbox installed in the Temple of Teleportation. There was one letter in it. The sender is the Lord of Mana City. The content is about him thanking me for repelling the Estent Empire’s soldiers. Well, even though he says that I repelled them, there’s only one person who escaped. In a sense, it is close to annihilation. It was also written that he sent me some gold coins as thank-you gift and it was given to the guild so I go receive it there.

“I didn’t fight for money though…”

“Isn’t that good? Shinichi did that much too you see.”

Erna looks happy with a grin plastered on her face. Looking at such expression, which is such a happy-go-lucky look, makes me feel uncomfortable. Anyway, I think she’s just thinking about buying a lot of clothes.

“That’s right! If you get the money, buy some clothes! That would be good!”

“Rejected”

At this point, we can’t afford to buy many clothes. Now that we have additional companion, we need to be more frugal.

“Eeeh! Shinichi’s so stingy!”

“Yeah, yeah. Say whatever you like.”

We then start walking towards the city.

“It’s sunny today and it feels good.”

I agree with what Freya had said. The weather is pleasant and it’s a nice day for a walk. Well, unlike when we’re inside the dungeon, I don’t feel something like stuffiness here after all. If we have a lunch box, we can go have a picnic.

When we arrived at the City, a soldier we’re acquainted with bows to us when he saw me.

“The weather is pleasant today. Do you have some business with the guild?”

“Yeah, I think it’s about time for me to show up too. Ah right, take this.”

I take out a boxed vegetable from the bangle. We harvested a lot of vegetables this time so I thought it would be too much to sell. There is also a surplus of watermelon so it would be just right to give it to the soldiers’ as a reward for their work.

“Is it okay to take this…?”

“Yeah. There’s a surplus of it, divide it among the other soldiers.”

The soldier bows again then he calls the other soldiers and they joyfully huddled together. My heart is getting full just by looking at them. Saying goodbye to the soldiers, we head straight to the guild.

We entered the guild like usual, but what came into my view was the several adventurers crowding together.

“Is Homeless really in this city!?”

“We came from the Royal Capital and we want to be part of Homeless!”

“Hey, where do those Homeless guys live!? It’s fine so just inform me where!”

More than 500 adventurers crowded inside the guild. Moreover, they are not just beginners, but rather, there are intermediate and advanced adventurers too. The corresponding guild staff looked like they are about to cry.

“Isn’t it amazing?”

It was Bud who said that as he hit me on the shoulder. He holds a bottle in one hand and seems to be drinking alcohol from daytime.

“What’s going on here?”

“Somehow, these guys have all heard the rumors about Homeless. Thanks to that, the guild is in tumult. Well, as these guys eat and drink here, the city benefits from them too.”

“Is it because I defeated the Estent Empire’s soldiers? I’m so surprised seeing how fast the rumors go.”

“If someone killed fifty Dragoneuts alone, would you normally want to befriend that person? Or is it me who is the odd one?”

Bud laughs and drinks his alcohol once again. Well, it is as he had said. Everybody wants to befriend a strong person. For a life-threatening profession such as this, it’s only natural to form a party with strong individuals.

“Bud, you must have kept the money from the Lord, right? We’ll leave the guild right after we get it.”

“Hahaha, that would be a wise choice. You shouldn’t come for a while until this cools down.”

After I received the ten gold coins from Bud, we quickly went outside so that the adventurers wouldn’t notice us.

“Father is very popular.”

“Indeed. With about fifty dragoneuts… No, forty-nine to be exact. Haist, anyways, we’ll be inconvenienced if we got famous to that degree.”

When I said so, Freya forced a smile.

“Dragoneut seems to be weak for Tanaka-dono, but they are actually a fairly strong race. One soldier from the Estent Empire can beat 100 human soldiers you know.”

“Does that mean that ten of them can defeat a thousand people? It’s no wonder that their Empire is in good shape.”

In that case, since I was able to beat the 49 people alone…

“Ahahaha! Shinichi is a monster!”

I drop my fist on Erna’s head. Don’t just speak what someone is worried about! And like that, we decided to go in the market and head to Arnold’s shop.

“Fuhahaha! It’s about time you come! I’ve been waiting!”

The owner, Arnold, is still shirtless and is laughing energetically. Looking at the items in his store, I couldn’t find the vegetables that I sold to him before.

“It seems that the shipped vegetables before sold well.”

“Of course! The customers were very happy with its rarity and quality! I hope you will continue to do business with me!”

I know it could be sold, but it is a pretty good result with it being sold out. Besides, I was planning to do business with Arnold in the future, so his offer is convenient.

“I was thinking of that too. Thank you for your continuous patronage.”

“Fuhahaha! Likewise!”

After shaking hands with him, I take out the boxes of vegetables from the bangle.

“This will be the vegetables we’ll sell this time.”

“Everything is good! The customers will be very satisfied again!”

He laughs loudly while knocking on the watermelon with his fingers. With him being so cheerful and unrestrained, I feel like I’ll be laughing too.

“Alright then, I will come back in about a week’s time.”

“Yes. I’ll be waiting!”

We left the market after I received the money from Arnold.

“Tanaka-dono, what are we going to do now?”

“We’ll be going to the next city in the meantime. I have to deliver the Lich’s skull to the researcher who requested it.”

Listening between my conversation with Freya, Erna joins in.

“The neighboring city is relatively far you know? I think it will take half a day to walk…”

“There’s no problem with that. We have our ride you see.”

After saying that, I summoned my familiars. Three unicorns appeared from the light that appeared on the ground.

“A unicorn! As expected of Shinichi!”

Erna gets on and checks the ride’s quality. Horse saddles are already attached to them so they look like a domesticated horse no matter where you look at it.

“Whoa! The Homeless brought weird creatures again!”

The children in the City gathered around us.

Saying it’s a “weird creature” is rude you know?

“This is a unicorn, it’s a very good horse.”

“Unicorns are white and beautiful! This is not a unicorn!”

One of the children argues.

….Hmm, doesnt it look like a unicorn?

This would be a problem then. I would like to argue, but it will take some time to explain to the children that they are indeed unicorns.

“Children, this is a special unicorn. It’s not like the ones you see around here.”

Freya’s words convinced the children and almost immediately, “Amazing–! It’s a strong unicorn!”, the child seems to be susceptible to the word “special”.

“Shall we go?”

After we get on the unicorn, the horses start galloping dashingly. Its feet were as fast as the wind, in a blink of an eye, we already moved far away from the Mana City.

I’m the one at the lead and Erna follows behind me. Freya and Pero stick next to each other. Since I only turned three unicorn as my familiar, I asked Freya and Pero to ride together. Pero’s face seems to be a little scared though.

“Haa-haa-,  together with Pero-sama…”

As expected, Freya is getting so excited. Her slovenly appearance ruined her beauty. Fortunately, even without Freya’s guide, the unicorns are smart enough that they’re able to take us to our destination.

“By the way, Shinichi, didn’t you also give the forked centipede to the person living in the neighbouring city?”

“Yeah, I think he was called Duffy. He said that centipede would be turned into a medicine.”

Duffy said he would use that centipede as a medicine to help a girl suffering from an incurable disease. I wonder what happened after that.

“Grrrrrrr!”

A wolf-like magical beast jumped out of the road. However, the unicorn I’m riding kicks it off without even stopping. Immediately after, Erna’s unicorn trampled down on the wolf, it also hurried over as if nothing had happened. I was impressed with that successive cooperative attack.

It’s strong even if it’s alone, but the three of them can cooperate well too. It seems that my decision to turn these unicorns into my familiar is correct after all.

In about three hours, we arrived at the neighboring city known as Crent City.

Hagure Seirei Ino Shinsatsu Kiroku

Chapter 85: Dawn

As I looked at Presha-san’s memories, I understood something –her heart had already been healed to some extent before she met me. But why was she still tormented by those nightmares?

There’s one reason for it.

Even after she met Raquel-san, who was like a sister to her, and Her Highness who shared her aspirations, she couldn’t erase the guilt she felt inside.

(If only I hadn’t left the village that day… If only I had been able to protect her mother―)

I don’t know if there is a way in this world to bring back the life that was lost. I’ve also never heard of a spirit that can do that. And if that is really the case, what can I do? Even after I entered someone’s dream, I’m just sitting on the sidelines and I haven’t been able to do anything as a doctor yet.

“…Summoner-sama, Presha-oneesan is repeating the same dream all the time. I’m sure that’s because if she recalls the painful memories, she’ll also remembers the happy ones. She does so or else her heart will break nanodesu.”

Laune, who connects my consciousness to Presha-san’s dream, speaks to me.

If it’s what as Laune had said, how miserable would that be? I still don’t know what is the answer for that.

What can I do to free her heart that is trapped in the past?

Presha-san’s memories continued. Joining Astina-denka’s squadron, they entered Aldrone Valley Her Highness stopped her subordinates who tried to accompany her, saying they will die in vain. Thus, only the three of them take the lead and attempt to pass through.

The road on the valley is covered with anti-cavalry palisade to prevent a cavalry from going through. For the Grunica City Alliance, this place was supposed to be an impregnable point. Well, that’s only if it was against a “normal cavalry”.

Haaaap!”

Raquel-san wields her lance while riding on the horse and she mowed down the anti-cavalry palisades ―the sight was as if a tornado had passed by. Then the sound of the gong echoes on the battlefield ―Raquel-san’s horse neighed loudly and raised half of its body seeing the falling arrows.

“What are they doing…!? The support archers…Uh!”

Raquel, please change your lance! The enemy can quickly notice it… this… uh!”

Astina-denka uses her slender sword to intercept the falling arrows they were supposed to break through with just three horses but they had to stop the horse when the enemy realized the situation.

“Why…? Why is it that the enemy archers are lying down even inside the border?… Uh!, Presha!”

Haaaaa!”

With a flash of her spear, Presha-san knocks down an arrow flying from behind. That’s right, from behind.―The enemy archers fired from the cliffs across the valley that they just passed by.

Even I, was stunned by the sight I saw when I looked back. There was no sign of the unit that were supposed to follow them and cover them from the rear ―the three cavalry were supposed to be followed by a long-bow unit with the archer unit right after them to keep the enemy archers in check but instead of entering the valley, they were stationed in a position that even blocks their retreat.

―Dadram’s uncle is the one leading the rear support units. Dadram, who’s waiting beside him, also refused to do his part. Her Highness’ direct unit was the only ones who moved forward.

“Despicable!… Even at a time like this, you guys are so stupid!…”

“Raquel, Presha, be the focus of the enemy attacks… Uh! The other cavalry can’t stop those arrows! But if it’s us…”

If it is known that they left Her Highness to die, Dadram and the others will be guilty for such crime. ―And yet, the fact that they went on with this kind of idiocy is probably the result of protecting their own precious lives. Or, was Queen Cassandra already interfering?

In any case, Astina-denka, who had been isolated in the enemy territory, appeared to be having difficulty in leaving the valley and survive.

―But,

“―Presha!”

Presha-san, who continued to intercept the falling arrows, galloped with her horse ―Neither Astina-denka nor Raquel-san were in a position to follow her.

The anti-cavalry palisade destroyed by Raquel-san no longer acts as a deterrent to a cavalry. Still, the cavalry unit who came out of the enemy’s fort thought that no one could tread on the road. ―Well, up until Presha-san ran through the falling arrows.

“W-Why can’t the arrows hit… She’s not dying…!”

“―Yaaaaaa!”

Wind mixed with blood blew by. Her long spear was unleashed like it’s about to tear the sky, then one by one, she defeated the enemy cavalry that can’t even respond to her attacks.

“―Presha, go back! Don’t move on your own, you’re too close to the enemy’s fortress…!”

Raquel-san is shouting on top of her voice ―Presha-san heard that voice but,

(I am… already…)

Bathed in the blood of several cavalrymen, she receives an unavoidable arrow on her shoulder, but still, she tries to move forward.

(…with this…. It’s over…”)

“―Uwaaaaaaaaa!”

The knight, who was furious when he saw the death of his companion, lost his self and rushed forward furiously ―Presha-san’s movements was slower as she received the arrow and she barely handled it, but her grip weakens for a moment and her long spear was thrown out of her hand.

Then the enemy cavalry let out a war cry. But at that moment, Presha-san was not scared. ―It was as if she’s emptying her mind and readied herself to accept all the pain.

“―Pull yourself together, Presha!”

It was a voice that wasn’t supposed to be heard there. And Presha-san’s body reacts to it. The moment she avoided the enemy soldier’s spear, an arrow sticks out from the shoulder of the enemy soldier.

“Guuaaa…!”

Presha-san quickly steals the spear from the enemy cavalry and shoves him off the horse with it―she did it all with her left hand, not with her right hand as it’s still weak to do it.

The supporting arrow attacks weren’t the only ones that Dite-san has fired ―In the southern side of the valley, Dite-san’s unit were lined up on the cliff and they cast arrows at the enemy’s army continuously.

“Captain Astina, Raquel-dono! Regular Knight, Dite and the fifty people under me, came to assist you belatedly! We are under your command from here on!”

Dite-san had annihilated or perhaps ambushed the enemy’s archers lying on the cliff in the southern side. Then the archers on the northern side slowed down on their attacks as they were restrained by the longbows shooting up arrows from the other side of the valley.

It’s not only Presha-san and Raquel-san, as an archer, Dite-san is also an “unparalleled commander”.

Astina-denka, who received the support, orders the 100 plus cavalry unit to break through. Dadram and the others who still did not take action seemed to be baffled by the fate of their destruction as they tried to protect their selves.

If Her Royal Highness’ survives here, their betrayal will be revealed. There should be a thousand soldiers in total, but there are only less than two hundred people who are following Her Highness’ command. ―The enemy’s unit that relied on the terrain should not have been that large though.

“Presha, hold on! We’ll treat the wounds right away… a little more…  just endure for a little more..!”

Raquel-san passes by after catching up with her. Presha-san then follows next to her as she pulls the reins of the horse with one hand. Astina-denka and other cavalry also catch up and safely pass through the valley.

―And then,

Raquel-san’s lance smashes even the stone walls of the fortress of the enemy kingdom, which was said to be keeping an eye on the valley and was holding the border’s key point.  Raquel-san broke through and allowed Lezenia’s army to invade.

The fortress, which was said to be impregnable, quickly collapsed shortly after they break through the valley and the flag of the Kingdom of Lezenia rose on top of the fortress.

―Astina-denka’s and the three knights’ first battle ended in victory.

◆ ◇ ◆

The Grunica City Alliance was dealt with a heavy blow when Lezenia occupied their fortress in the Aldrone Valley. The City Alliance, which had been exhausted from their repeated attempts to recapture the fort, could no longer suppress the dissatisfaction of its citizens so they offered a ceasefire. In the end, they accepted the truce that’s favorable to Lezenia.

By having the City Alliance reduce its military as the condition for the ceasefire, the Eastern Army was also reduced, and although it was renamed as the “Eastern Front”, the knights either returned to the Capital or went to other battlefields.

―Because of that, this led to a surprise attack from the City Alliance’s hard-liners. But at that time, Astina-denka was already been transferred to the Western Front and was appointed as the guardian of the Isle Rose Fortress because of the merits she had earned on the Eastern Front.

The Isle Rose Knights was then set for women-only. That means that all the knights and soldiers who aspired to be Astina-denka’s subordinates can only be women. Well, the male knights could not accept a “female general” either. However, Astina-denka’s appearance fighting with a sword on the front line despite being a princess was earnestly supported by female knights and soldiers.

Presha-san, who became a regular knight, was appointed as an Attack Captain, and continued to play an active role in the battles to control the territory and battles against the invasion of Zirconia Empire.

Her respect for Astina-denka, her admiration for Raquel-san, her friendship with Dite-san and her interactions with the soldiers in the fortress who admired Presha-san’s strength all contributed to Presha-san’s success.

All of that was comforting for Presha-san.

But at night, she sleeps with the doll her mother made in her arms, has nightmares, and cannot help but reject those who approach her. In the bottom of darkness, in a place like this, Presha-san has always been tormented by her guilt.

―Just like how I can see her mother in front of me, she was able to see her mother like this.

『What’s the matter? This child is mine. It’s only natural for me to take good care of my daughter. 』

It’s the spirit that dwells in her subconsciousness named guilt and erodes Presha-san’s heart. –It is no longer the same as a spirit. The reason I didn’t even notice it when I saw the dark spirit in Noin before was because Presha-san was trying to accept everything. She couldn’t deny it as it appears in her mother’s form.

From the bottom of my heart, I admire Presha-san’s mentality –I want to save her from everything that takes advantage of her suffering.

『Then, will you return it? The time I was supposed to be with my daughter. 』

“……That, I cannot do that.”

The spirit in the appearance of Presha-san’s mother laughs. Like she’s mocking my helplessness.

『I will not give up this child. My precious Presha… she’ll remain young forever and go to the same place as me. 』

“Summoner-sama… uh, the one that shows the nightmare to Presha-san is showing itself…!”

“Uh….!”

The dark spirit changes its form ―its human likeness is changing as I look at it. A black snake. It is not like the time when a snake was consuming Noin, it was entangling Presha-san who was still in her young self ―it entwined in her spirit itself and is biting on her neck.

(Kuu… Uuu… Mother… I’m sorry… I couldn’t save you…)

“…This is how… lurking into people’s hearts and suffering… for years…!”

There’s no reason for her to suffer this much. She has fought as a knight and has continued to defend this kingdom –she struggled so hard to gain such power to fight.

『You too, with this child… sleep here… forever. 』

“――Summoner-sama, run away..!”

The black snake that is entwined on Presha-san bared its fangs toward me.

I knew I would worry Laune, but I dared to receive it with my arm. Inside this dream, the pain of being bit by its fangs did not come, but in reality, the pain is so severe.

“Guuaaa… Haa… Haa…”

『…Stupid child. If you abandoned this human and ran away, you wouldn’t have to suffer. Why do humans always do things for nothing? 』

The voice of the dark spirit who stopped imitating Presha’s mother was terribly grating ―it can be heard multiple times and it didn’t sound like it was coming from a person’s throat.

“Uh, Summoner-sama… If you bully Summoner-sama, I’ll fight you instead…”

“I’m fine… this kind of pain is nothing. It’s not a big deal…”

Even though it’s a nightmare, the blood I shed is directly linked to my death. Shedding blood in my mind is equivalent to losing my magical power.

“Even with this, there’s no such thing as I understand her pain now…… this is just a part of it. I did not really go through even the single piece of pain that Presha-san has experienced…”

If you draw a “success” spirit, you’ll immediately become a combat magician. I’ve always taken things for granted ―and I was even once disappointed that it didn’t happen to me.

Even the moment when I was unhappy that I drew the “flop” spirit, is now just a past that I felt ashamed of. Without having any fear on war, I was able to study in the protection of the Academy. Presha-san on the other hand was not even given what I took for granted.

“I’m an idiot…. a big idiot. Even when Presha-san called me “Sensei”, I accepted it like it was only natural. I’m…. I didn’t deserve it for her to call me “sensei”….. Uh, just because I can use magic to achieve some results…… I thought that just from that, I’d become great!….Uh…”

I was supposed to be fighting like her. Even if I can’t use a sword or a spear, I’m useful when it comes to magic. I was happy that she acknowledged me. But I did not check if she feels uncomfortable. In the end, she was suffering like this.

(… Mo…ther… Don’t… I, just… that person…)

Her voice sounds choppy. But even if it’s too painful, she did not ask for help.

Rather than the pain and suffering, she should have enjoyed something. For that reason, I have to detoxify the poison from the fangs of that dark spirit.

『…What are you trying to do? If you are trying to pull me off this child, that won’t happen. That’s because my fangs are deeply stuck in her. Eventually, this child will die just like this… So stop getting in the way! 』

A poison that gnaws on people’s heart. There is no such thing as a specific remedy for it under normal medical practice. It is said that the only way for it is to continue healing over a long period of time. But it’s a different story if it is brought by a type of spirit. I’m a “spirit doctor” after all. ―If it’s a pathology brought by a spirit, I should be able to heal it.

“You might have thought that you could just stuck your fangs into me and that would be the end of it. It wouldn’t makes sense for a doctor to let a snake bite him you know? ……Laune! Extract the antibodies for poison that have formed inside me!”

“Uh… Antibody… Master’s power to fight poison… Rei would like to come too nanodesu, the two of us will help Master!”

“I’ve been waiting. I thought there was something I could do too.”

Drawn inside the dream by Arlaune, Rei appears ―the “Spirit Mandrake”, swallows all the miasma and uses them as her own power. With that power, it was possible to produce antibodies and suck out the poison that remained in me.

“…It would be dangerous if the poison had spread before we’re able to make the antibody. Summoner-sama is too reckless.”

Rei, who looks like a little girl, gives me a quick glare. But I’ll apologize for worrying them only after I finished everything here.

『Antibody for poison… You can’t erase me from the heart of this child by creating such a thing. I’ll be with her forever… I have to keep an eye on her until Presha destroys everything. 』

Will it continue to play until the end? –Or, is this Presha-san’s wish? Is her desire for her mother to live in any way gave birth to this disease?

I admire Presha-san’s compassion. But I have to end this ―even if it is said that this is an ideal and just judgment, I don’t think Presha-san’s mother would try to make her daughter suffer.

“Stop insulting those who are gone. Presha-san’s mother would never say that…!”

(… It’s useless… Mother died… I’m already …)

『―It’s not useless! It’s never too late for anything! 』

With the power of Rei, the poison that binds my movement disappears. The next moment, my arm shines ―The sacred tree, who was connected through Her Royal Highness, the “shrine maiden”, responded to my call.

―Mistilteinn that is living in my branches, dwell on the right hand of the man who formed a contract with me and clean up all the impurities that you can see.―

The symbol of my contract with the sacred tree appears on my arm. The black serpent that had bound Presha-san, attacked me like a storm ―but I have nothing to fear. Then I thrust out my right hand. ―The vines of the mistletoe that rise from my entire arm, hindered the black snake’s movement, entangled it and it sucks up its power, withering it away.

『―Aaaaah … Aaah… disappear…… Noooo, I’ll disappear… 』

(No… uh, don’t disappear… from me….. Mother…)

“―Look forward, Presha Hortensia! What you achieved with your own hands is worthless unless you recognize them yourself!”

Did my words go through or was it the power of Mistilteinn?

Presha-san’s young spirit was freed from the imprisonment of the dark spirit. However, the dark spirit that was separated from her still hovers around her to take Presha in its possession again.

“Summoner-sama… You see, it is Presha-san herself who keeps that enemy here. Presha-san has to fight this by herself …!”

Laune made a flower, another part of her, sprout from the ground and tries to protect Presha-san ―But, as Laune had said, rather than weakening, the dark spirit regains its strength. It seemed that it’s impossible to beat Presha-san in her childhood.

“But… I’ll help you. It’s also my job to help my patient heal… Mistilteinn!”

It was my last gamble. Before Presha-san was possessed once again, she herself had to defeat the dark spirit ―and to do so, I lend her Mistilteinn’s power.

『―Aaaaah』

The vines of the mistletoe that give off a faint glow are entwined around Presha-san’s arms. Mistilteinn follows Presha’s heart. ―To her emotion that says, “I want to live”.

The black snake bared its fangs and attacks Presha-san. At that point, she opened her hands and received it herself.

“Presha-san…!”

“…It’s okay Summoner-sama. …Presha-oneesan…”

Arlaune had a better understanding of what had happened. Embracing the dark spirit that had its poisonous fangs in her heart, Presha-san then whispers to Mistilteinn on her right arm.

(…I’m sorry mother. I……)

Then Mistilteinn shines brighter. The tremendous purification power of the sacred tree’s familiar poured into the disappearing spirit.

『―Aaaaah……….Aaaaaahh…….!』

In the middle of its scream, it changed into the sound of something that’s not human and then it disappeared. The plant created by Arlaune catches Presha-san’s body as she collapses from exhaustion. I ran up to her and saw the scars left in Presha-san’s heart for the first time.

(…I didn’t want to show it to Sensei… the ugliest part of me…)

I don’t think it’s ugly. However, those words did not come out immediately. Now I can only fulfill my duties as a doctor. The appearance of Presha-san’s heart, which was worn to tatters and the large fang mark left on her neck, looked too ephemeral.

“…This serum eliminates the poison. Presha-san… please take it.”

Presha-san nods to me. Then Laune sprouts flowers from the plant that hugs her body –then I carried the the dews formed on the petals to Presha-san’s mouth. It is so transparent that it’s hard to believe that it was created from poison. The antibody erased the poison that was affecting Presha-san’s heart.

“……Thanks Sensei…”

Then I heard some voices. However, my consciousness rapidly separates from Presha-san’s dream. The last voice I heard was my own, the one I said some time ago.

“―Presha-san is not a monster.”

I don’t know what she thought of those words. But right now, I just wished that I could tell her that there was no lie in what I had said.

◆ ◇ ◆

The moonlight shines through. The window in the desolate room should have been closed, but now they have been opened by someone else.

It was Leslie. She was wearing a hood and dressed as a man, but she still entered the room.

“…Rei says she’s worried about Grass-nii. When I brought her here, she quiet down a little… but when we came in…”

Leslie had a difficulty continuing what she’s trying to say. If she’s worried, I don’t think she’ll be blamed for entering the room though.

“…zzz…”

…Uh!!

I can hear the sound of someone sleeping nearby –When I realized it, I was sitting in the bed while Presha-san nestled closely on my lap.

“W-What is this… That, I, I’m so absorbed on the treatment, u-uhm, you may say this is a subconscious behavior…”

“I understand that… Raquel-san and Dite-san said that when Presha-san was having a nightmare, she shouldn’t be approached, but it looks okay now.”

Leslie smiles and walks over to us. She picks up the doll that has fallen on the floor and she gently pats it to dust it off.

“Those precious things… we have to tidy them up properly. I can’t do it without permission though.”

“That’s right. If Presha-san permits it, I’d like you to fix it.”

Well, I can’t even touch Presha-san on my lap.

Laune looks at me happily while Rei looks a little jealous –like she wants to do the same too.

“I know Presha-san needed medical treatment from Grass-nii today. She always seem to be in a hurry to… I was worried when I saw her like that. I know she is a strong person, so it may be strange for me to worry about her like this.”

“No, that’s not the case. You are close in age and I hope that you can talk more with her from now on.”

“…Yeah. I would like to talk if Presha-san if that’s okay with her. Un, after the matters on Zirconia has settled down.”

Perhaps because we started a conversation, someone knocked on the door and it opened slowly. Perhaps they were worried, Raquel-san and Dite-san came into the room and they sighed in relief when they saw Presha-san sleeping.

“…I’ve known her for a long time but I’ve never seen Presha be this close to someone. Grass, what on earth did you… No, there’s no need to ask for that.”

“I’m a little jealous… N-No. I think it’s a pretty good way to solve insomnia. Looking at Presha, with such happy look in her sleep…”

“…Summoner-sama, when you return to your room, u-uhm, uhm…”

“N-No… we are spirits, so let’s not be selfish…”

There is no such thing as everything is wrong. As I exclaimed inside the dream, it’s current meaning is for us to be this peaceful. For both Laune and Rei. And everyone in the Knights Order –so that they can live a peaceful life away from the days of battle, I will continue to do as much as I can.

“Both of you worked hard, so don’t hesitate. It’s also normal for an elemental to listen to the spirit’s request you see.”

“Whoa…”

“…really… even if I’m dangerous…”

Does Rei care about being a dangerous plant? Well that’s depending on how they are handled. As for me, who has been helped many times, I don’t really need to worry about that.

“……Sensei……”

The first immediate problem is when Presha-san wakes up –we may have to wait until dawn. At that time, it can’t be just the two of us alone, so I’ll have to ask Laune and Rei to watch her too.

Tomorrow’s war council will determine the future course of our action. Raquel-san and Dite-san must be well rested –Leslie and Noin too.

And there is one more thing I want to make sure of. The sensation I had when I lent Mistilteinn to Presha-san. –That seemed to suggest a new possibility of using my magic.

Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

Chapter 78: Client

Except for that special matter, the transaction proceeded as usual. Clerk-san then leaves the room to tell the others what to load in our cart.

“Ah, right. About those five halberds…”

“What’s the result?”

“His Excellency, the Count, happily agreed to buy them.”

“Oh I see, I didn’t really think that he wouldn’t buy them.”

“And then, there’s also a request from His Excellency.”

“Hohoh. What is it?”

“He wants me to sell him three more of those halberds. He wants the guards at his mansion to have them.”

“I see. Okay, I’ll comply to it.”

If it’s a request for a custom model, I’ll have to ask the requester to come to my house in person, but if not, I’ll simply accept the request. I’ll make it when I got home before it slips out of my mind.

After that, we talk about the happenings in the world as usual. So far, this is the only opportunity I have to hear about what’s going on in the world. In my previous world, I was able to get some news about the disturbance on the other places on Earth via the Internet. Given that, his brain sure is terrific as from him alone, I’m able to listen about the situation on the other region every once a week.

I wonder if it would be better to secure some other means for this. Oh well, I’m not in a hurry, so I’ll just explore slowly.

There seems to be no talk of a major war somewhere, or a troop dispatch for a major subjugation operation (defeating a dragon or ogre), so I don’t think there’s any urgent need for me to make anything. Even if there is, whether to accept it or not is a different story.

However, although this information is not confirmed yet, there are some fishy stories such as small-scale skirmish with monsters in remote areas, or scuffle over borders or water rights. Hopefully, none of those will be on a large scale.

After leaving Camilo’s store and as we pass by the entrance to the town, I noticed that the man standing guard was not yet equipped with a halberd. Well, training for that could take some time. I guess he couldn’t distribute it right away. I just nod at the guard again then we passed through.

Nothing major happened on the road or inside the forest. We were always vigilant on the surrounding, but as usual, the trip was quite peaceful. Just like that, we arrived home and then we bring our luggage inside the house. Today’s purpose of going to the city is now completed. From the next day, we’ll start doing some blacksmithing.

We prepared some sheet metals and then I made the halberds while Rike and the others made the other weapons. I already made some halberd before so I made another three without much effort.

It took me about two and a half days so far, and for today (which is the third day), the remaining half day we’ll be my free time. Since this will be given to the guards of the mansion, I will carve on the halberd during this free time.

Perhaps it was because I had successfully strengthened the chisel (for me to be able to engrave on the Mithril earlier), I was able to engrave with ease and the three halberds were completed. It’s a bit unrefined to be used for ceremonies, but it is perfect enough for a mansion guard to have and use to protect the gate.

Now that I have finished making the ordered items, from the next day, I will proceed with the production of items to be wholesaled to Camilo’s store. Rike will continue making the general model ones, and Samia and Diana will go hunting. With us having enough meat, half of their purpose would be like a forest patrol.

And, like that, the “usual” routine began.

Samia and Diana will take a break from hunting tomorrow, so we will start making knives today. Rike and I heat up the sheet metal and then we start hitting them to make a knife. The smithy is filled with the sound of soft flames and regular hammering. In between, there are sizzling sounds when we are quenching and also the sharpening sounds as we sharpen the knives. After having our lunch, we continued until just before dusk.

And then, someone came.

The sound that had been echoing like some kind of music was mixed with another sound. It was the sound of the knock on the door of the workshop/sales room. It wasn’t as unrestrained like the time Helen knocked on the door, I feel like the person knocking is timid. No, compared to Helen’s knock that made me think the door was about to break down, it is just much softer.

“Yes, yes, I’m coming out now.”

“Ooop”, I stood up and headed for the door. The knocking sound stopped, perhaps because the person knocking heard my voice. When I removed the bolt and opened the door, there is a woman standing there. She’s taller than Rike, but a little shorter than Samia. Overall, she has a slender figure and she is dressed in travel clothes. Her fine silvery white hair was cut around the shoulders is striking, but the most eye-catching one is her ears.

Thin, long and pointed ears.

The knowledge I gained in my previous world and the knowledge I gained through the installed knowledge gave me the same answer. She is an elf.

The woman elf spoke in a thin voice,

“Is this is Eizou-san’s workshop?”

“Yes, this is my, Eizou’s workshop.”

“Oh, thankfully. I came here to ask for a favor.”

“I see. This is not a good place to talk, please come inside.”

“Oh, okay. Thank you very much.”

I led her inside and she also came in obediently. Rike stopped what she’s doing and was watching the situation. I gestured an “it’s OK” sign with my hand and asked her to bring some wine diluted with water.

“Please tell me what you came here for.”

The woman elf nods her head, she then unloads her luggage and sits in a chair (although it’s a log) without making a sound. There was a simple table set-up here and Rike gently placed the drink on it. The woman elf bowed lightly and thanked her.

“So, what can I do for you?”

“This one”

From the luggage she put down, she took out an item that was wrapped in a cloth and then she spread it on the table. I was so surprised when I saw what was wrapped inside.

“I want you to repair this.”

The woman said as she stared at me with a begging look.

What was placed on the table was a Mithril sword –a mithril sword broken into several fragments.

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 53: 30th floor

Finally, we have reached the thirtieth floor.

“It’s the same as the 29th floor huh.”

“Yeah”

As Erna had said, the 30th floor has landscape almost similar to the 29th floor. The passageway was overgrown with grass and the walls were covered with vines. I’m still inside the Great Labyrinth but if feels like I’m outside.

“Mokyuu?”

A small creature emerges from the grassy area. It was about 30cm long, covered with brown hair, and its appearance is very similar to a koala. Its round eyes are staring at us puzzlingly.

“Oh, what a cute creature.”

When I tried to touch it, it growled and bit my hand. Contrary to its appearance, it has a large mouth and sharp teeth like those of a shark grow sharply on it. Obviously, it’s a carnivorous one.

“Shinichi!!?”

“Don’t worry, this won’t hurt me.”

The little creature bite into my hand but it can’t pierce through my skin. Then after a while, the creature finally gave up and ran away.

“What was that?”

“That is a magical beast called gremlin. It looks cute, but it is known as a ferocious carnivore. If you can train it, you can keep it, but I don’t really recommend that you do that.”

Given Freya’s explanation, I also agree to that. Well, since it’s cute, it’s not strange that some humans will want to have it. There are even some people in this world who tried to keep lions and tigers.

I stand up and we proceeded forward. We then came to the place where a group of creatures called gremlin and a group of hobgoblins were fighting. Twenty hobgoblins surround and attack ten gremlins.

The hobgoblins mercilessly raise their nails towards the gremlins, who squeals, “Mokyu! Mokyuuuu!”

Considering that this is a struggle for existence, It’s normal to think of it as the strong preys on the weak. However, I felt sad to see that such adorable creatures are crying sorrowfully.

“Skeletons, get rid of those hobgoblins.”

“Katakatakata”

Hundred skeletons moved forward. Suketarou was the one who takes command. While the three Lich served as the long-range attacker. The Hobgoblins are so engrossed with their fight that they seem to be completely unaware of the incoming skeleton unit.

Then the fight was finished in a blink of an eye. The hobgoblins were wiped out in less than five minutes. The injured gremlins on the other hand were trembling gathered together.

“Katakata”

Suketarou also tried to touch a gremlin. However the frightened gremlin bites into Suketarou’s finger. But since it’s made up of bone, it was too hard for its teeth to bite into.

“Katakatakata”

Suketarou laughs as he seemed to be tickled. Then the Gremlins stop squealing and they stared at Suketarou and the other skeletons. And shortly after, the Gremlins ran away from the area.

I helped them for my self-satisfaction. In other words, I just feel like it. The next time we meet gremlins, I might hunt them.

“Well done”

“Katakata”

The skeletons clattered their jaws and bowed to me. I then stowed the Hobgoblins’ corpses inside the bangle. According to Erna, hobgoblins are quite pricey. Of course their meat cannot be eaten, but it seems that there is demand for their bones.

We start walking again as we follow Erna’s instructions who is currently looking at the map.

“Go to the right next.”

“Right huh. By the way, how long is it before we get to the disposal site?”

“It’s near. But, can we get in smoothly?”

Erna’s question is justified. We were able to enter the disposal site on the 20th floor because I happened to found the hidden door. It seems that it is better to think that the entrance on the 30th floor’s disposal site is hidden as well.

“Katakata”

Suketarou clatters his jaw.

Looking back, ten gremlins are peeking out from the behind the grass. One of them comes out and touches the skeleton in the end of the line. The other Gremlins were just watching the situation.

“It looks like they became emotionally attached to them huh.”

“But it’s a carnivore you know?”

“Gremlins are ferocious, but they’re not foolish. Once they recognize you as their ally, they won’t attack unnecessarily. They seem to have a keen interest in the skeletons too.”

The Gremlin touches the skeleton once more and it looks up at the skeleton. On the contrary, the skeleton looking down at it seems to be troubled.

“Mokyu!”

After that gremlin squealed, the other gremlins hiding in the area, revealed themselves. Sitting under the feet of the skeletons, they licked each other’s wounds. Apparently, they thought that it was a safe to be near the skeletons.

“They’re so cute.”

Erna is fascinated seeing such gremlins. Yeah, they are cute, but we can’t move forward with them like this.

Hmm, what to do?

“They are injured, so I think they want us to protect them.”

I nod to Pero’s words.

Let’s heal their injuries then.

I took out some cure mushrooms out of the bangle and threw them at the gremlins.

“They won’t eat it huh…”

They did not even bother to look at the cure mushrooms I tossed to them. Oh well, it’s a given because they are a carnivorous creature. Thus I decided to chop the cure mushrooms into small pieces and mix it with minced meat.

When I throw the dumpling of raw meat to them, the gremlins took a bite on it this time. Then their wounds from the hobgoblin’s scratches gradually disappeared. The gremlins began to run energetically afterwards.

“Alright, we’re going now―Hn?”

The gremlins climb into the skeletons’ body as I issued the command. Then they even settled down on the skeletons’ shoulders or head.

Hmm, it seems that they intend to follow us based from their actions.

“It can’t be helped, let’s just take them with us.”

We finally start walking again.

 ◇

“There should be a hidden space behind this wall, right?”

“Yes, that’s what the map says. It’s also about the size of the disposal site.”

We arrived at the destination but the question is on how we can get inside. The skeletons have already begun to look for hidden doors, but there have been no reports of discovering such thing yet.

“Should we look for the hidden door too?”

Then each one of us begins to look for it while hitting the wall. We decided to act separately. I took the ten skeletons with me, Erna and Suketarou with fifty skeletons, and Pero and Flair with forty skeletons.

It’s more efficient and this will increase the chance of it being found. I also decided to keep the gremlins in my group. They look cute, but they are a carnivore, so it’s safer if they are with me as I could handle it if I am to be bitten.

“Mokyu”

The gremlins are licking parts of the skeletons’ body. It is mutual grooming or should I say grooming. Many animals do this to get rid of parasites and keep them clean. Of course that’s not all. It also has other meanings such as having emotional connection or showing their friendship. The skeletons appear to be liked by the Gremlins.

“But―, I can’t find it at all…”

I’m looking for it while hitting the wall, but I can’t find that spot. This may take a few days.

As that thought crossed my mind, a gremlin stood in front of the wall a little bit far from the skeletons. I observe at what it was trying to do. The gremlin then begins to push the wall and a hidden door opens up. It jumped inside the opened gap without hesitation.

“Mokyu!”

Following that, another gremlin also opened the hidden door and enters inside. I was stunned while watching the situation.

“Mokyu! Mokyu!”

The gremlins seemed to say that the skeletons should follow them. I let the skeletons go ahead and I followed from behind. The floor was one step lower beyond the hidden door as expected. There is also a straight passage behind it. When I looked at the hidden door from where we came in, it was now totally closed. As expected, it seems that it is a one-way mechanism.

“Mokyu!”

The gremlins were calling out to the skeletons to follow them. The skeletons and I decided to follow the gremlins to the end of the aisle.

“This is……”

The space at the end of the aisle was as expected. It’s a square room with crystals on the walls that are shining with pale light. But what’s even more eye-catching is the group of over 100 gremlins. Carpets made of grass are their bedding, and many small babies of the Gremlins are sleeping.

“We looked for the gremlins nest huh…”

I can’t help but laughed as I thought that. I never thought there was a nest in the disposal site that should have been hidden. I’m should be thankful for the chance of meeting those gremlins.

When I pulled myself together and looked at the center of the disposal site, there was a treasure trove beyond my imagination.

There are Mithril sword and Mithril axe. Furthermore, there are Mithril shields, even bows and canes are stack in piles. Generally speaking, it’s a mountain of countless weapons. There are also a lot of armors and tools.

“This is amazing! I’m glad I came here!”

I randomly stored things in the bangle. I don’t know the mechanism of the disposal site that well, but basically, inorganic substances are accumulated as garbage. Not to mention, organic products such as leather could weather. However, some of them seem to be able to withstand weathering.

Best evidence is that there are bows and canes that were made of trees and plants.

【Analysis Result: Large tree Bow: A bow carved from a branch of a large tree that is said to have lived for 2,000 years. Its arrow have the attributes of the wind that can penetrate even an iron wall: Rarity A】

【Analysis Result: Bird of Paradise Cane: A cane made of the bones of a bird that lives in Hades Island. It has a very good magical conductivity, is light in weight and is harder than steel. It has a high affinity with the wind attribute and has the effect of boosting one’s power: Rarity A】

【Analysis Result: Magic Steel Spear: A spear made from magic steel. It has excellent sharpness and strength, and its magical conductivity exceeds Mithril: Rarity A】

【Analysis Result: Flame Back Hand Guard: Guard for the back of the hand made by synthesizing Freinium and Mithril. The momentum of the flame also increases depending on the amount of magical power applied: Rarity A】(TLYN: You can search this[手甲] to properly visualize it)

As expected, something with rarity of S cannot be found here. Rarity A is the highest and B is more than a dozen. Most of them are with rarity of C.

Well, come to think about it carefully, will a human with a weapon of rarity S die in the 30th floor?

Of course, the answer is NO. Thus, so far, things are going well. So I could say that weapons of rarity A and above are lying around in the floors further below. I do want to go search for those with Rarity S, but currently, there is no reason to do so. I’m just collecting weapons for my living, not as a collector’s item anyway.

When almost the entire mountain of items is stored in the bangle, I surveyed the disposal site as I looked for the exit. Then incidentally, I saw several gremlins pushing the wall for going out. Apparently, I can get out of from there.

“Gremlins, sorry for disturbing you. This is my thank you gift.”

I gave a lump of meat to the gremlins. There is a lot of hobgoblin meat in the bangle anyway so it’s a good place to sort them out. Besides it doesn’t make much sense to keep such inedible meat.

The carnivorous gremlins swarm on the meat. It’s not a very pleasant sight to watch, so I decided to go out from the exit quickly. When I went outside, Erna and the others were sitting down and chatting. Apparently, they couldn’t find the hidden door so they stopped the search from some time ago. When they saw me, they immediately run to me.

“Shinichi! Did you get inside!?”

“Well, the disposal site appeared to be the gremlins’ nest and I was able to get in as I go after them. I already collected the weapons so the dungeon exploration is over.”

“Yey! We can finally go home! I’m dead tired!”

The three of them happily frolic around. When we get home, I’ll feed them with some delicious food.

“Ah right, I’ve collected some weapons that looked good, I’ll give them to you guys.”

I handed the Large Tree Bow and Bird of Paradise Cane to Erna. I give the Flame Hand Guard to Pero. And Freya received the Magic Steel Spear.

When each of them received it, they quickly checked its usability.

“This bow is good. Especially the cane, it’s the best. It looks like its performance is much better than my previous canes.”

“My fingers are coming out in this Back Hand Guard. It also appears that it will generate flame when magical power is applied to it.”

“This is of high-quality. This spear is considerably heavier than Mithril, but it’s just right for me. I’ll use the Mithril Spear as a sub-weapon and use this as my main one.”

The three of them seemed to be satisfied. It seems that it’s good to think that we had a huge harvest this time after all.

“Alright, shall we head back?”

We then head to the Temple of Teleportation here in the 30th floor. We arrived at the temple in about two hours.

“I’m going to transfer―”

I halted my movement when I tried to touch the lithograph inside the temple. That’s because when I looked closely, there are gremlins hugging some skeleton. If we transfer like this, they will be taken with the skeletons.

“Skeletons heed my command. Stay on this floor and protect the entrance and exit of the disposal site.”

“Katakata”

The ten skeletons clattered their jaws and accepted my order. It would be enough to have ten skeletons in this floor, so other than the ones I nominated, I decided to return with the rest via transfer.

Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life

Chapter 77: Vacation and delivery

The day after Diana emphasized how cute the baby wolf was during our dinner, we start walking inside the forest to pull up the big tree deer after we finished the morning routine.

For quite a while now, Diana has been restless, probably because she’s still wondering if there would be wolves today. In the previous world, when I saw a stray cat and its offspring, I look out for them when I passed by that area for a while, so I understand her feelings. However, when you look for it that way, it rarely appears. It was the same when I was searching for stray cats.

As expected, we arrived at the lake without seeing the wolf family. Diana’s spirit is now visibly low, well, that’s how a person learns…..

The wild boar that the Samia and Diana hunted before was also quite big, but this time, the deer is also quite big. I think it’s about 2m long.

“This one must have been hard to kill, right?”

“It was thanks to Eizou’s specially made arrowhead. Oh, I think I also hit it precisely this time so it was almost instantly killed.”

“Oh, that’s amazing.”

“No, if it was a normal arrowhead, I think we would have gone back home just before the sun went down.”

Samia praised me in a roundabout way, so I sincerely thanked her and said, “Thank you.”

I asked Rike to cut down a larger tree this time while the three of us worked on pulling the deer up. At first it was easy because we had some buoyancy, but the closer we got closer to shore, the heavier it became. Samia’s (compared to mine and Diana’s) physical strength is much stronger than that of a normal human being, so we manage to pull it. But this weight makes me think that it would be a bit difficult if it’s just two normal people. With this, combined with the wild boar meat, the amount of meat we have in stock will increase considerably.

The four of us drag it up to a carrier made up of large wood. It also took more effort than usual to pull it this time. Of course, partly because of the size of the cart and also because of the weight of the deer itself, it took us longer than usual to pull it up. Hanging the deer back at home was also a challenge, but the rest of the work was much the same. I was able to handle it quickly with a sharp knife, but I think a big part of it is because I’m getting used to it. Well, I do it almost every week that’s why.

I then took care of the meat and at Samia’s request, I also took some tendon this time. The tendon will later be used as a bowstring. There is a limit to the amount of salt I can use, so I had to dry a lot of it this time. With meat hanging here and there, the smithy now looked like a butcher shop. I guess I really need to build a smokehouse and a storage room somewhere….

Our lunch is sauteed venison. And since the whole day today is entirely a vacation, I also served wine (sake for Rike) even if it is still daytime. Even if this is a different world, the sake you drink from noon is really good. Originally, even in this world, it is normal to have sake from noon (although it rarely a substitute for water), so other than me, the three of them also enjoyed meat and sake.

In the afternoon, we did whatever we want to do. Samia tended to her bow, Rike worked on her craft, and Diana practiced her swordplay. I continued to work on the flower bed and vegetable garden that I had planned to build in the courtyard. Since it had been neglected for a while, the soil was still soft to a certain extent, but weeds were growing all over it. I guess I should plow it again.

I took the hoe from the workshop and start plowing. It’s a lot easier than before, so I don’t need any help from the other three. In a sense, what I’m doing is similar to blacksmithing. But since I’m not selling anything, it’s much easier. I don’t mind moving my body, and I have to work in the fields once in a while too.

I managed to finish plowing the courtyard by myself. The soil is quite soft now. It would be better to sift the soil but I don’t know how much work will I be able to do here in the future. I’ll just be careful so as not to turn this place into a weed field again.

For dinner, I tried making venison stewed in wine. I will be buying wine again tomorrow, so I used it without worrying about using it all. Things like this make me feel like I’m really on a vacation. We had a good time talking with each other that day, and I was able to get enough energy for the next day.

The next day, it was the day we would go to the town to wholesale our goods so we all loaded up the cart with the items and went through the forest. Of course, I did not forget to bring two gold coins with me. On the way through the forest, we occasionally encountered animals such as deer and other animals but there was no danger in particular. Well… Diana was looking around restlessly, probably because she was looking for the baby wolf.

We still remained alert as we go on main road but as usual, the idyllic scenery spreads out. I checked with Samia and Diana from time to time but everything seemed to be fine. We were then able to reach the town like that.

The guard on duty today is the one we saw on our way home last time. I wonder what happened to Marius’ colleague. I’m a little concerned because he also bought my products. I hope his case is not like what happened with Marius. With that in mind, I nodded to the guard then we entered the town.

When we arrived at Camilo’s shop, we proceed with the usual procedure. However, today, I’ll be bringing the Mithril rapier myself so I took it from the cart. Besides, I can’t just leave it there. As we were waiting in the business meeting room, Camilo and Clerk-san appeared again as usual. As soon as Camilo entered the room, he looked at what I held in my hand.

“Oh, you finished it?”

“Yeah, I guess so. It took a lot work though.”

I handed the rapier I brought to Camilo. Camilo pulls the rapier out of its scabbard as soon as he received it. The sword I forged has a faint glow in itself, and combined with the protective guard, it looks quite imposing. Camilo looked at the blade and nodded with satisfaction.

“Indeed. As expected, asking you to do it is a right decision.”

“Is that so? Well, I’m glad you liked it.”

I tried not to show it on my face, but inwardly, I feel greatly relieved.

“So, about that Apoitakara we talked about…”

“Oh yeah, what happened?”

“We thought of a way to make sure that we’ll get it.”

“Hoh-, you did it huh!”

“Well, it’s more valuable than Mithril so it’s going to take a little longer to complete the procedure.”

“I see. Well, it can’t be helped then.”

“Sorry for that”

“It’s not your fault, don’t worry about it.”

I said so and took out the two gold coins from my pocket.

“In any case, since I already brought my money with me, I’ll pay you now.”

After saying that, I handed the two gold coins to Camilo, then he received it with a pleasant smile and said,

“Thank you for your continuous patronage.”

Homeless Tensei: Isekai De Jiyuu Sugiru Majutsu Jisoku Seikatsu

Chapter 52: Homeless finds soybeans

About an hour has passed since we searched for soybeans. We met Hobgoblins several times, but Pero and Freya quickly got rid of them. The next thing I knew, me and Erna were just looking for soybeans.

“We already searched this long, since we can’t find it, it only means that it doesn’t grow in this floor.”

“Yeah, maybe, but…”

I couldn’t give up. As long as we find soybeans, I can grow them as much as I want. If I can have even just one bean sprout, harvest is to be expected with this dungeon here.

“More than that, I’m so tired already. Let’s take a break somewhere.”

“Alright, it’s about time for dinner too.”

We decided to take a break at a suitable place. I took out the pre-made soup out of the bangle then I distribute the bread sandwiched with meat and cheese to them.

“This is delicious.”

Freya seems happy with my homemade food. Then she drinks from the water bottle containing some saint water.

“Whoa, what is this delicious water!?”

Until this time, Freya hadn’t drunk saint water yet. I am familiar with the deliciousness of Saint Water but it made me feel that it’s even more delicious because of her. Well, her surprise is normal.

【Do you want to evolve the Freya Label?  YES / NO】
【Evolution destination selection: 】
・ Human → High Human
・ Human → Neo Human

Such display appeared in my line of sight. It looks like it is Freya’s turn this time. It’s not too surprising as this is the second time though. In the first place, Saint Water most likely has the function of rapidly absorbing things like the accumulated experience points. It’s like fully opening a water tank’s faucet. Thanks to that, it seems that the experience value required for evolution has been reached all at once. However, it is still a mystery why somebody else’s evolution options come out before me.

Hmm, is it because I’m the leader of these three?

“Hey Freya, I was asked if I want you to evolve, what should I do?”

“Hn!? Why are you asking Tanaka-dono!? Uh, It should be me who is asked, right!?”

“Don’t ask me that. I don’t know why either.”

“Aah, in the end, God was disappointed in me… tha-that’s why to Tanaka-dono…”

Freya looked up at the ceiling and began to despair. By the way, God is the sender of the words that I see many times. In this world, it is considered that the occurrence of these words appearing in my field of view is the work of God.

I have no choice but to believe it because there is no object to deny it, I feel that it is not entirely false either. It may be God’s guidance that such words appear in my field of view, and that I can live in this way too. There is a possibility that it’s Buddha. It is no wonder that this world is made up of something beyond human intelligence.

“Hey, Freya. What should I choose on the evolution’s destination?”

“…Isn’t it just high human?”

“There is an option like that, but there is also a neo-human option.”

“Neo human?”

Not only Freya but also Erna and Pero were at loss. Since the three of them don’t know about it, it only means that it is an evolution that has never been seen before.

Or, is it a forgotten evolution?

“Hmm, this is worrisome…”

Freya begins to worry about the destination of her evolution. There is no doubt that both high human and neo human will make her stronger, but life-changing choices cannot be made easily. It is also possible that her appearance will turn ugly too.

Then Freya asks Pero a question,

“Which do you think is better, Pero-sama?”

“I don’t mind whichever you become, Freya-san will still be Freya-san, right?”

Freya trembles with joy in response to Pero’s words.

“I decided! I will become a neo-human!”

“Are you sure? Maybe high human is better?”

“Yes, don’t make me change my mind! I’ve already decided that you see. Quickly, let me evolve!”

And so, I select YES and choose Neo Human. Freya immediately lay down with a blanket. Light then wraps around her and her evolution begins.

“Alright then, I’ll leave Freya to the skeleton unit. Pero and I will go look for soybeans.”

“Okay”

Leaving Erna and the skeleton unit on that place as her guard, Pero and I resume the search for soybeans.

“Nothing huh…”

“Un……”

Rustling through the grassy places, we searched for something that looks like a soybean. If I remember correctly, soybeans are plants that stand out. With a lot of broad fruits on the petioles of its big leafs, it has an unforgettable impact at first glance.

“Kyuui!?”

A rabbit with horns escaped from the grassy area. It is a gentle magical beast called Horned Rabbit. Many small animals live in this floor and monsters like wild boars are wandering around as they hunt them.

“Bururu…”

While thinking about such a thing, a wild boar suddenly appeared.

【Analysis Result: Poison Boar: The fangs are poisonous, and once bitten, your whole body will turn numb, rendering you immobile. The brown wild boar breathes heavily and starts charging fiercely. Apparently, it recognized us as prey.

“Wait, I’ll do it.”

I stopped Pero who’s starting to run towards it and I come forward. I wanted to test the power of the Paralyzing eyes skill that I got from the Hobgoblin. When I made an eye contact with the wild boar, the skill activated.

“Bugii!?”

The boar staggered, hit the wall and finally collapsed. When I approached it, it’s still twitching from the convulsion with its eyes rolled back.

“It is very different from the paralysis I felt.”

Is it because of the difference between the users?

It seems that there is a big difference between the Hobgoblin and me using it. However, Paralyzing eyes is a pretty good skill.

“I’m going to drain its blood now.”

Pero gashed the wild boar’s neck with a sense of familiarity, then blood spouted from the wound. It’s not a pleasant sight, but I don’t feel any disgust. Well, getting used to it is quite scary though.

As soon as the blood is drained, I started dismantling it. After that, I put it in a bangle and we searched for soybeans again.

After walking for a while, I found a plant like the one I’m looking for near the wall on the passageway. When I ran up and used my Analysis skill, the long-awaited display was shown.

【Analysis Result: Daizu: A leguminous plant, beans harvested while young are called edamame. Mature fruits are suitable for fermented foods and are also used as ingredients for making seasonings: Rarity D】

As expected, soybeans seemed to be in this floor. This completes the ingredients for making soy sauce and miso. What’s more, getting soybeans means that I can eat edamame, which is a snack paired with sake.

Without Pero here, I would have been dancing naked in joy. As I tried to harvest the soybeans, my hands stopped.

If it’s possible, why can’t I just bring it home as a whole?

After pulling the soybean’s stem, I stored the whole soybean plant in the bangle. All I have to do is replant it in the vegetable garden.

“Should we head back?”

“Okay”

We decided to return to where the other two is.

 ◇

Her first time evolution took almost seven hours. It’s longer than when Erna evolved so we were taking a nap while the skeletons served as our guards.

“Uh… a… here is…”

Freya seems to have woken up. I crawled out of the blanket, then I put a lot of food and water in front of Freya.

She starts eating the meat quickly and gulps down the water in the barrel. Her red hair, which has grown nearly two meters, hides both her face and body, so it is not possible to confirm how she has evolved.

However, I can see that she had four arms!

“Burp! I can’t eat anymore!”

Her mouth, which was slightly visible through the gap in her hair, is smiling with satisfaction.

“Hey Freya. You have four arms, don’t you feel weird?”

“Haa? F-Four??”

After checking herself, she screams. Erna and Pero, who were sleeping, woke up from the volume of her voice.

“Waa! Freya, you have four arms!”

“Freya-san is amazing! So cool!”

Erna looked surprised, but Pero was jealous. Then at this point, Freya begins to feel embarrassed.

“If Pero-sama could say that, it only means that my decision to choose this evolution is correct!”

Her ghost-like hair sways while she wiggles her body as she’s emerged in happiness. It’s time for her to cut her hair and see what she looks like.

“Cut your hair with this.”

I handed her the Bull King knife and let her cut her hair. When her hair is cut till a shoulder-length, her appearance is revealed and she looks more beautiful than before. I was spellbound.

“How is it? Do I look weird?”

“It’s okay. Your face is better than before.”

With red hair like flames and pair of ruby-like eyes, you’ll feel a sense of intimidation just by her stare. She’s definitely a looker, there was no doubt that if there were ten people here, ten of them would turn around to look at her again. In addition, her four arms move naturally enough to convince you that there are such creatures like her. And strangely enough, they do not seem out of the ordinary.

Another mysterious thing is that the blue armor she had been wearing has changed. The blue armor has been changed to red armor and has been modified so that it can be operated with four hands. I was impressed that evolution could also change the equipment.

“Freya-san is so cool!!”

Pero gets excited about her appearance. Well, in my mind, I was also shouting, “Four arms!? I envy you!!”

Having multiple arms is a man’s romance. It’s my dream too.

“The three of you should move a little away, I’ll try to use my spear.”

Freya grasps the spear then she applies her centrifugal force to rotate it skillfully. It’s like she’s a spear prodigy. The spear does not separate from her finger like it’s a part of her body.

“Yeah, this body is wonderful. It’s powerful and I don’t feel like losing to any demon beast.”

“But it does not feel like a skill of a neo-human.”

“No, my status has added something called psychokinesis. I think it’s a unique skill…”

As she said that, Freya’s spear floats in the air. As the spear moved about 10 meters away, it fell to the floor.

“Is 10m the limit? The closer it is to my body, the stronger my psychokinesis works huh.”

「「「……」」」」

I’m left speechless. Instead of magic, she used her skill to make things float in the air. From what I know, Psychokinesis is a psychic ability. Don’t tell me I’ll get to see psychic powers in this magical world?…

I quickly check out Freya’s status.

【Analysis Result: Freya Label: Retired as a Knight Guard of the Duke and got a job as an adventurer and joined Homeless’ party. She has a tremendous loyalty towards Pero. It’s as if Pero is her god: Rarity S】

Evolution: Does not meet the conditions
[Evolution Condition: Psychokinesis (Special), Ultimate Spearmanship (Beginner), Body Strengthening (Beginner)]

There are a few things I’m curious about, but first of all, it’s her psychokinesis skill. It’s amazing to say that she can move things without using her hands, well, she still need to find out how powerful her skill is.

Either way, I can say that it is an evolution worthy of the term “new human being”. Also, when I look at her evolution category, I can see the term “Ultimate Spearmanship”. Perhaps it is a skill that has evolved from spearmanship skill itself. This skill is still deep and interesting.

Then secretly, I opened my third eye. I can see Freya’s limbs. I checked it just in case, but she doesn’t seem to have four breasts. I can’t say that it was disappointing or good, but I do think it is now a little bigger. It is really an inviting chest. Mufufu.

“Shinichi? Why is your third eye open?”

Erna questioned me with unhurried voice. As I’m already satisfied, I decided to close my third eye.

“Um, I was checking with my own eyes for any abnormalities.”

“I’ve always wanted to ask, but what’s that eye in your forehead is really for?”

“This is the eye of truth, I can completely see through someone’s true nature with it.”

“Hmmm…”

Erna doesn’t seem to believe it. I’ll be in trouble if she pursues it any further, so I just diverted the topic.

“Now then, since Freya’s evolution is over, isn’t it about time for us to move to the 30th floor?”

“Eh? Did you find the soybeans?”

“Of course. I diligently searched for it. I will not regret leaving this floor anymore.”

Then we got up and started walking towards the stairs.

Hagure Seirei Ino Shinsatsu Kiroku

Chapter 84: Gathering of the four knights

For Presha-san, Astina-denka is her direct superior. But until now, she did not have the opportunity to receive words from her directly. This was because, as the third princess, she was constantly being watched by those around her, so Astina-denka was forced to behave cautiously all the time.

In the Knights of Lezenia, it is customary for knights with authority over the commanding officer to give instructions to their subordinates through an adjutant who acts as an assistant. It is not recommended to speak directly with a certain subordinate knight.

Quasi-knights are elites in the army as a whole, but because of their high combat abilities as an individual, they often go on the front lines with the general soldiers. And from the perspective of the senior knights, they are subordinate who is likely to be unrepatriated. They believed that it would reduce the accuracy of their command if they had emotional attachment to one of them.

―But Astina-denka is different. She’s willing to break the customs and cause her superiors to have bad opinion on her. She came here thinking of Presha-san, her subordinate.

Raquel-san, who always stood straight, straightened her posture even more to express her gratitude to Her Highnesss. Her Highness responded with a small wave of her hand and stood in front of the cell where Presha-san is.

Across the bars, Her Royal Highness stands in front of Presha-san’s misty line of sight. Presha-san can feel her divine presence ―but at the same time, the whispering voice on her ears made her speak unexpected words.

“…This is not a place where Your Highness should go to. I don’t want to be forgiven. I still regret not being able to kill those who sold my village.”

“Uh! …Presha, can’t you even feel why Her Highness came here? You…”

“It’s fine, Raquel. I was unaware of Presha’s thoughts and I just asked her to take the lead as an excellent spear knight. ….I thought Presha’s bravery was dependable. I didn’t even know what kind of emotion she felt as she wielded that spear.”

Without saying anything, Presha-san looked up at Her Royal Highness’s eyes which were filled with gentle glow.

Raquel-san told Presha-san a little about Astina-denka’s character. Though she’s born as a princess, she did not want her life to end being used as material for politics. And in order to protect her homeland and her close relatives, she entered the Knight’s Academy at the same age as Presha-san. She graduated after she finished the entire course in two years, which should normally take four years to complete.

With her beauty, which is said to be immense, the leaders of the Knight’s Order had contacted her many times, dreaming of marrying the princess of the kingdom –However, Astina-denka never did what they expected, with her own efforts alone, she repeatedly gained merits on war until she was called as the “Lone Sword Princess”.

Astina-denka stands farther away from Raquel-san, who is the object of admiration for Presha-san.

But, even her, can never punish an officer from a noble family who abandoned their people to protect themselves. Astina-denka successfully waged war in the East and eventually returned to the Capital. Being on the front line itself should be an exception, so she’s clearly different from a soldier who seeks to end his life in the war like herself.

“….I hate them, I only fight because I don’t want the unforgivable ones to live. The one who betrayed our village and the ones from the Grunica City Alliance are no different. I hate those traitors more for being the noblemen of this kingdom.”

(You’re kind, Presha. You are the pride of your mother.)

(You should kill anyone who stands in your way. Our suffering will never be understood by this fair maiden.)

I can hear a gentle voice which is just like a curse. An indiscriminate killing intent boils up inside Presha-san –not by justice, nor by her will. With the current her, no matter how strong she is, I don’t think she can survive for long on the battlefield.

It seems like, from this time, she wouldn’t be able to move to Lezenia.

That’s because even though it was caused by someone, inside Presha-san’s mind, she only had the desire to kill Her Highness who is in front of her. Astina-denka should have noticed it too. And yet, she just stood there, taking in all of Presha-san’s emotions as they are.

“There is no law in this kingdom right now that can punish those who caused your village to be attacked by the enemy. His Majesty, the King, must decide on the punishment in person….. However, the only thing reported to His Majesty by the Knights is the victory and defeat on the battle.”

At that time, the war in the East and South was fierce, and His Majesty was lying in his sickbed again. Bartolomeo XXV, once known as the Sun of Lezenia, became incapacitated after a serious illness in his fifties –his public appearances declined so much that Queen Cassandra II even took over as the king’s deputy.

They appealed to His Majesty for the punishment of the nobles who have thrown Presha’s village into danger. Her Highness’ eyes with deep melancholy showed that it was impossible even for her.

Even though she is a princess, she has no authority. They have no intention of punishing the traitor. Presha-san was not disappointed with that.

Then, a black stain falls on Presha-san’s worn-out heart. Her spirit as a person is being eroded―

“I doesn’t matter how many people died… It’s fine as long as you defeat the enemy. It’s what you’re saying right……?”

“Presha! To say such… in front of Astina-denka… uh!”

“It’s okay, Raquel. I can’t punish them… I didn’t even relieve my subordinates’ remorse, I’m not qualified as a commander.”

(Don’t be fooled, Presha. This person is just trying to win you over with her fake words. )

(The princess wants freedom. She just want to make you a convenient piece that she can discard for her achievements. )

“Un… I know… Mother…”

“…Presha”

It was a soft murmur. However, Her Highness and Raquel-san did not miss it. Raquel-san is biting her lips. Astina-denka looked at her and turned to Presha-san again.

…No. If I leave Presha-san any longer… But…

Even if I know this is all in the past, I wish I was here. I must immediately wipe off the darkness that seems to be entwining around Presha-san right now.

However. The magical power of Astina-denka, who should have been sealed at that time, slightly overflows from her body.

Her Royal Highness did not give up nor try to give up no matter how much Presha-san rejected her. I know it well, it was a power that made Presha-san feel her care –even though this overflowing magical power puts a heavy burden on Her Highness’ body.

“The battle with the Kingdom Alliance has been in a stalemate for the past month… the burden on both sides is so great that there is now a movement to seek opportunities for discussion.”

“Astina-denka, with all due respect…. The current situation is that we are losing a key border point to the City Alliance. I’m afraid that if we don’t change that situation, the movement for the discussion will not proceed….”

“….That is, if the situation does not change. The Governor General of the Eastern Army has just made a decision on the operation a week later. To destroy the City Alliance’s position and display the might of our army… We will attack the enemy’s fortress in the Aldrone Valley.”

Aldrone Valley ―It is a natural fortress called the “Corridor” that goes east to west through the southern border between Lezenia and Grunica. Snowfall makes it impassable during winter, but with the current season and until summer, the infantry and horses can travel through it. However, those from Grunica’s side built a fort adjacent to the valley, and when enemies approach the border, they’ll mercilessly rain arrows on them.

However, if you are a “brave commander” who defies the common sense like Astina-denka, Raquel-san and Presha-san, you can dash through the valley while riding a horse.

“If we put the Aldrone Valley under our control, the Grunica army will try to recapture it at all costs. But we’re merely a unit… if our main force doesn’t move, it will also be hard for us to split the troops in the valley. Now that they’re in a favorable terrain, they can just deploy troops like they are now.”

If we try to build a fort in the valley, the enemies will be in the way. However, we can’t attack them from here ―Not thinking that the valley would be a strategically important place and not building a base there was such a lax foresight.

Astina-denka should be able to determine where to seize by just looking at the topographic map around the border ―That’s because she had the power to foresee the battlefield even before signing a contract with the sacred tree…

Presha-san, who was listening to the conversation, anticipates on what she was going to be told. Her Highness came to punish her in the punishment cell. And that was something that Presha-san was pleased with. That’s because punishing a traitor and slaying an enemy soldier are equivalent for her.

“…If I cut in… and open the way…”

With Presha-san’s strength, and if she risk her life as she use that power to move forward, she can run through the valley. But that wouldn’t be the case. Like the way I knew her now, Astina-denka did not change. Since long before, she never forced her subordinates to sacrifice.

“No…. you will not be alone. Presha, you will go with us. The three of us will ride a horse through the valley.”

“Uh! …..Your highness, that won’t do! No matter how strong Your Highness is, for you to personally…”

“Right now, I’m only taking care of my unit. The difference between a captain and her subordinates isn’t as big as absolute….. isn’t that right?”

Her Highness dares to disregard the fact that she is the third princess who has the right to succeed the throne. Raquel-san tries to say something. However, Her Royal Highness’ eyes filled with determination did not waver.

“…Together… We… the three of us…?”

That reckless conviction of Her Highness made Presha-san regain her human-like emotions. The hatred for the nobles who caused her mother’s death faded, and the original brilliance of Presha Hortensia, the brave spear knight, returns.

“Yes. Me and the two of you. The three of us are the only ones who can do it.”

At that time, neither the Kingdom of Lezenia nor the Grunica City Alliance was aware of it. That Astina-denka, who will later be called the Sword Princess General, and the two knights who serve her, each have the strength of a matchless warrior.

◆ ◇ ◆

In the next scene I saw, Presha-san had already left the punishment cell.

After she finished reporting to Raquel-san, her superior, a guy she know, jeeringly called out to her while she’s walking in the corridor on the fortress as she head for training.

―Dadram. The guy from before who called out to Presha-san with a group of people and tried to get her to follow him, but couldn’t.

“How did you butter up the princess? ….Well, I know. To join that knight’s order, you have to be a woman as that princess is only interested in women…”

“Uh!…..Thi-this woman, she’s looking at Dadram-sama like that again! uh…”

Presha-san, who did not mean to glare, swallowed her anger nonetheless even though she has a heartfelt contempt for Dadram and his crony men.

“I don’t care what you say about me, but I won’t allow you to say bad things about Her Highness.”

“Hahaha… Such display of courage again. I know that you tried to touch my uncle so you were asked for severe punishment.”

“Uh…!”

Those words mean that Dadram’s uncle sold Presha-san’s village. Just how corrupt are the knights stationed at this Vulcanus Fortress?

It’s not surprising that she’s upset. But Presha-san understood that there was no point in taking out her anger on Dadram.

“Even if you leave the punishment cell, you’re done for Presha. I’ll give you another chance… Follow me. If you do, I’ll see to it that you remain a knight in the future.”

He even has the nerve to say that. However, Presha-san was noticeably different from how she had been before she met Her Highness –she was closer to the young woman I knew, when she’s behaving cheerfully.

“I’m not worth your attention. Rather than an incompetent woman who only knows how to fight, I think you’ll get a much better companion.”

“…Don’t regret it, Presha. I already extended my warm heart to you the second time.”

Dadram blurted those words and leaves with his followers. Presha-san who remained there clenches her fist tightly –then her strength loosened.

Raquel-san followed Presha-san as she was worried about her. She then approached Presha from behind, puts her hand on her shoulder and pats her gently a few times.

“Even though the kingdom has a large percentage of women, the Knight’s Order is mostly for men. Even more so, there are those who come from the nobility that gain power without even experiencing an actual battle….. Such men only see the female knights as nothing more than the object of their desire. You did well on holding back your words.”

Even though they weren’t related by blood, Raquel-san’s action towards Presha-san were like that of her own sister.

When Presha-san touched Raquel-san’s hand, she smiled as if saying she didn’t need to worry that much. The blue-haired girl’s smile was reflected in Raquel-san’s jet-black eyes.

“If I’m as beautiful as Raquel-ane, they’ll be interested in me, wouldn’t it? Besides, if they saw Her Highness, it seems like men and women alike, won’t care about me even more.”

“…..Some men find it satisfying to subdue a woman who has the power to fight. Rather than that, you have such low opinion of yourself Presha. But that’s not the case at all you know.”

“Well that, I think it’s just you saying that. That’s all because Raquel-ane is kind, No… you are kind and strong.”

“Why did you correct it? ….Do you think I’d be embarrassed if you just said that I am kind?”

It’s an exchange that makes me, who’s watching this, smile more. Presha-san’s desolate heart is definitely being healed by the presence of Her Highness and Raquel-san –her allies in the Knight’s Order. Still, there are some scars that won’t disappear just by quietly covering them up. The threat I had felt watching Presha-san had continued since then.

“….We must not show any weakness. The nobles see us as nothing more than pawns.”

The one in front of Presha-san’s line of sight –Dite-san, spoke. At this time, she had a completely different impression from what she is today. Rather than a knight, I felt that she’s more like a noble young woman wearing an armor, she looks too delicate that war was not suitable for her.

“Presha… I know about your situation, but not all the nobles in this kingdom are who you think they are. Please correct your words just now.”

“….I think Dite-san’s archery skills are great. For a nobleman, you’ve honed your skills well and even managed to join the Order….”

“If you recognize me as a colleague, even for a little bit, I’d be happy to give you my opinion…”

“If you want my thoughts to be what you want, beat me. By then, I’ll do what you tell me to do…”

A clear provocation –that’s something you shouldn’t normally do to the same knight.

However, Dite-san remained calm. Taking Presha-san’s words head-on, she was completely unmoved – even Presha-san was inwardly surprised at her indifference.

A dainty noblewoman. Presha-san sensed something that she could relate to Dite-san, who should have been born and raised in completely different circumstances.

“Our duty, as members of the Knight’s Order, is to defeat the enemy nation. I hope that Presha will appreciate me for the kind of work I do.”

“…Presha, Dite is right. Don’t make the mistake of pointing your spear at the wrong person.”

“…It’s not that I don’t appreciate it or anything. I’m the one who asked Her Highness and Raquel-ane to see if they can use me.”

“I know it sounds like an impertinent thing to say, but…. If you think you’re being ‘used’, you didn’t really understand Astina-denka, nor do you understand Captain Raquel. As someone watching from the sidelines, I know much better than you do.”

Dite-san is someone that can’t be dealt with ordinary means either. She replied to Presha-san’s challenge, she gave a ladylike bow and walked away. Raquel-san looked at Presha-san without saying a word –but suddenly, the edges of her mouth loosened and she sighed.

“You don’t dislike a knight with a backbone like that, do you?”

“…It’s enough to have Raquel-ane to be nosy like that, it’s not like she’s my big sister or something.”

Raquel-san only smiled at Presha-san’s reply.

A peaceful moment passed between the battles. But it was only for a brief moment –the Eastern Sector’s Army will carry out a major operation two days later.

While the main unit of Vulcanus Fortress is attracting the main force of the enemy, a separate unit will attack the City Alliance’s fortress, which is just beyond the Aldrone Valley.

Among those members selected for that separate force was Astina-denka’s unit, who had volunteered to shake off the enemy in the surroundings.
