Walking, Chapter 20: The first request

Now that the adventurer’s beginner’s course was over, I decided to do some shopping at the guild’s shop. It seemed that the other people who had taken the beginner’s course are also heading there.

“Excuse me, can I get two beginner adventurer kit? Ah, and two blankets, please.”

“Sure. You guys in the back, do you want the same thing?”

“Yes. Give us the same thing for each person.”

“Got it. Wait a moment.”

The middle aged man at the counter prepared the adventurer kits right away. I guess they sell well every time a beginner’s course ends, because he had prepared it for a number of people in no time.

By the way, I should ask him if he has other recommendations.

“Is there anything else you’d recommend for beginners?”

“I recommend a kit for herb collection and medicinal herb encyclopedia. I also recommend a monster encyclopedia.”

“Then, please give me two kits for herb collection and those two encyclopedia.”

“I’ll get a herb collection kit, too.”

“All right, wait a minute.”

Not only me, but the other adventurers also bought various things together. It wasn’t expensive, but it was a bit of a painful expense.

At this point, an adventurer who took the course with me made a suggestion.

“Shun, if you have time in the afternoon, why don’t we take a quest together?”

“Yes, yes. We can’t do anything too big, but we still have a lot of time before dinner.”

“Mmm, it’s fine with me. Is Shiro okay with it?”

“Yes, I’m okay with it!”

We are both okay with it so I agreed to join them in taking a request.

The request that our group of 10 people and one cat chose was to organize a certain warehouse along the river. It is something that we would have no problem accepting even with our current adventurer rank.

Besides, with this many people, I think there wouldn’t be any problem so we immediately registered it in one of the reception windows and then we headed to the site.

✲✲✲

“Are you guys beginner adventurers? Oh, little girl, are you are with them too?”

“That’s right. I might not look the part but I’m strong!”

“I see, I see. I can expect a lot from you guys then.”

“Un!”

A slightly chubby, balding old man greeted us and immediately guided us to the site.

“Wow, it’s spacious.”

“There’s a lot of trash here too. Should we gather them up and clean the floor first?”

“Okay, let’s do it!”

We all started cleaning the warehouse.

Hmmm, Im sure there are bags in my item box.

After a while, I found several burlap sacks. I’ve also got a couple of brooms so I’m going to use them as well.

“Oh, as expected of Shun. Let me borrow a broom.”

“These burlap bags are also of good quality. They can be used repeatedly.”

We quickly cleaned the inside of the warehouse. Shiro, who can use body-strengthening magic, carries large items one after another. Everyone then sweeps and cleans the empty space. There are a lot of decaying wooden boxes, but they are very easy to dispose of because they are all empty.

“Shun, your slime is digesting the rotten stuffs one after another.”

“I guess it’s a slime’s habit. It’s very helpful.”

Ao digested rotten fruits one after another.

“Oh~, you’ve really cleaned it up. Haha, you got rid of the rotten things too.”

“My familiar is a slime, so its good at this kind of thing. What do you want us to do with the decaying boxes?”

“You can burn them. But please do it by the river.”

“Understood. I’ll put them together and dispose of it.”

I went to the riverside and then I dig a pit with earth magic. Then I put the wooden boxes and other items that needs to be burned inside the pit. The garbage stored in the burlap bags are also thrown into the pit. I then burned them all at once with high-temperature fire magic. Of course, the cinders are extinguished with water magic, and finally, to complete the process, I filled the pit with soil using earth magic.

“Hey, we are done cleaning the floor.”

“I’ve gotten rid of all the garbage as well.”

“Oniichan, you’re amazing.”

“That’s right. We all saw it during the practical training, you are very good at applying magic.”

Amidst receiving praise from everyone, we completely organized the warehouse in three hours. Evn the client was surprised by this.

“Hmm, even though your group only have two mages, you did it so efficiently. Another warehouse owner is planning to send the same request to the guild tomorrow. I would like to introduce you guys to him.”

“Is that okay?”

“Regardless of adventurer rank, this kind of thing requires careful work. There are other loads to be packed after all. You guys are more than worthy of our trust.”

“Thank you. We’ll do my best.”

Completing our first request properly led to a next one.

Everyone seemed very happy with this result.

✲✲✲

“The request you did today should be your guide in the future. If  you do it haphazardly for the first time, the next one will surely be the same, done arbitrarily. So, whenever you accept a request, please do it carefully. Don’t forget that.”

「「「 Yes! 」」」

When we returned to the inn and reported what we did to the innkeeper, he gave us such advice, which was also meant as a warning. It must have resonated not only with me and Shiro, but also with the other adventurers.

In this way, the first request was successfully completed.

Walking, Chapter 19: Unexpected individual match

“Sorry to keep you waiting. Now it’s Shun, Shiro, and Ao’s turn.”

“Okay~”

After the practical training of the others, it was finally our turn. By the way, I was watching other people’s fights, and no matter how I look at it, they were better than those two. Maybe those two underestimated adventurers, thinking they could simply become adventurers after failing the knight exam.

“Uhm, why is it that guild master is with another staff member?”

“Because I think that for Shun and the others, I couldn’t do it alone.”

“““Oh—!”””

No, no, wait.  What is the Guild Master talking about?

The people around us, please don’t get too excited. But that being said, this is already an unavoidable scenario so I could only comply. As for Shiro and Ao, they are already full of enthusiasm and are already gearing up.

“Shiro, Ao, your opponent is a master at fighting, so focus on protecting yourself.”

“Got it!”

I warned Shiro and Ao just in case, but I’m sure they’ll launch a suicide attack. Thinking so, I also prepared myself.

“Alright, begin!”

When the referee gave the signal, the guild master came straight towards me.

Bang!

“Hoh~, so you predicted this attack.”

“The Guild Master was keeping an eye on me, so I prepared a magic barrier just in case.”

That was close.

The guild master suddenly charged at me and punched me. Before the duel began, the guild master glanced at us, so it was good that I was on guard. I kicked the guild master and tries to get some distance, but the guild master still brings me into a hand-to-hand fight.

Shiro and Ao are happily wrestling with the burly staff member.

Uh-, I want them to help me.

“Fufufu, I heard that you are a mage but you can also fight  huh. This is interesting.”

“Well, I act as Shiro and Ao’s training partner a little bit.”

After the morning magic training, I’m doing hand-to-hand combat training with Shiro and Ao. Those two do not hesitate to hit me, so I struggled a lot. Still, it seems that the daily combat training has helped. The Guild Master is also going easy on me so I’m able to defend myself.

However, with this close contact, I cannot use magic.

I’ll try out something.

“Yo!”

“Well, well, looks who’s thinking.”

I jumped up a little and then I instantly unleashed a wind magic at the guild master. The propulsion of wind magic allows me to keep some distance between me and the guild master, who takes a defensive stance and can’t move. Immediately after that, I used air bullets to keep her from closing our distance. The guild master on the other hand blocks the wind mass by punching it.

“Hmm, you have refined your magical power well. It’s quite powerful.”

“Really? Please don’t put on such nonchalant look and don’t block my attack then.”

I combined multiple attributes to cast magic, but all of them were blocked. Earlier, she also calmly punched the fireball released by that mage in flashy outfit, but to be able to nonchalantly block my lightning balls and water balls as well is really incredible.

She is indeed worthy of being the Guild Master.

By the way, at this moment, Shiro and Ao is having a conversation and getting an advice from the staff member they fought against.

You guys, help me……

I adjusted my stance once more and just when I am about to release my magic,

“Time’s up.”

The referee called out.

“““Whoa!  That was amazing!”””

Was there a time limit?

There were loud cheers from the people around us who were watching our fight. I was so focused that I didn’t notice what was going on around me.

“That was amazing, Oniichan.”

“Thanks. I mean, Shiro and Ao, why didn’t you help me?”

“I thought Oniichan would be fine!”

When I asked Shiro and Ao, who came to my side, why they did not assist me in the fight earlier, they grinned as they answered that. I couldn’t help but gasp.

“That was great. Where did Shun and Shiro learn magic?”

“We were just taught about the basics and the rest are self-taught so we really don’t have that in particular.”

“Hmm, I see. We do hold magic and martial arts classes at the guild once in a while, so take them when you have time.”

“Yes.”

“Thank you.”

“There are also short courses for weapons, I recommend that you guys take that as well.”

“““Yes!”””

The course ended when the Guild Master gave the course information not only to me and Shiro, but also to the other adventurers.

There were some troubles, but it helped me a lot.

Walking, Chapter 18: A quick defeat

“Now we are going to start the practical training. Each of you can have a duel with any of us here. This will measure your abilities and we could also point out your areas for improvement. This will be beneficial as you continue your activities as an adventurer. Healers and other rear guards are also welcome to join in.”

After doing some warm up exercise, the Guild Master gathered us and then she started to explain the practical training.

We are the last to go, so we decided to watch the other guys fight.

“Hahaha, we’ll go first then.”

“Fufu, good. I need to let off some steam you see.”

Hoh-, that arrogant swordsman and mage challenged the Guild Master to a duel. It’s like they have been waiting for this. Looks like the Guild Master also expected such development, she was not bothered at all. By the way, the healer seems to be listening to various advice from the burly staff member.

Mmm, that is the correct response.

“Oh, fine by me. You two can attack at the same time. By the way, young man, you can use the sword hanging at your waist.”

“Damn! You’re underestimating us!”

“I won’t give a damn if you die!”

When the Guild Master said that they could attack at the same time, the swordsman and the mage lost their temper.

Sigh, wrong move.

Even if they fight the Guild Master calmly, the two of them had little chance of winning. What more now. Mmm, this is a quick defeat for sure.

“Take this, seiyaaa!”

“Hehehe, burn to death!”

The mage fired a barrage of fireballs and the swordsman charged in. At first glance, they seem to work well together, but the fireball was not imbued with enough magical power, and the swordsman has a fatal weakness, —he is too slow.

“Fu-, Sei, Haa!”

“Guwaah!”

“Kyaa!”

The guild master countered the fireball with her fists and kicks, dodged the slash of the swordsman and then she grabbed the swordsman’s arm and swiftly threw him towards the mage. The swordsman and the mage collided and both of them lost consciousness.

In order to prevent the mage from being pierced by the sword held by the swordsman, the guild master knocked down the sword held by the swordsman before throwing him away.

“Sigh. The swordsman lacks physical ability, and the mage lacks magical proficiency. Come to think of it, I heard that the third son of some Count Family failed the knight exam in the royal capital. It was said that he was asked to start over from the basics.”

Despite their bravado, they both lost easily. In fact, even for me, they are too weak.

The two of them were taken to the infirmary on stretchers. The healer who was left behind hurriedly chased after them. The guild master already knew what the two of them were capable of. They were at a level where they failed the knight exam to begin with, so they weren’t particularly strong. They are just making a fuss out of their family’s prestige.

“Alright, let’s proceed with you guys. Make sure you are good at defending yourselves.”

“““Yes!”””

The other people here did not let their guard down to begin with, and they also know their own capabilities.

They challenged the guild master and staff members to a fight and listened seriously to their suggestions for improvement. The guild master and staff members also carefully explained what they asked about.

If only those two had this level of humility……

But after seeing that fight, that seems impossible.

Walking, Chapter 17: Short lecture about our luggage

“Okay, now let’s move on to practical part. Make sure you did not forget anything behind. Follow me.”

After the lecture of the muscular staff member ended, a sense of relief spread in the air. And while I was glared at by the people on my both sides, I looked back at Shiro behind me.

“Shiro, did you listen properly?”

“Yes, I listened thoroughly. Are you okay Shun-oniichan?”

“I’m all right. Come, let’s follow everyone.”

“Okay~”

I took Shiro’s hand and then we followed the others. It seems that under the supervision of the staff members, the swordsman and mage also followed the others to go to the site where we’ll do the practical training. The woman who looked like a healer walks behind them.

Hmmm, I wonder if those two hold her weakness or something.

I don’t think there’s anything good in following those two after all.

As we followed the staff members, we came out to a large space behind the guild. It is said that the practical training will be carried out here. In addition to the burly staff members, the Guild Master who had just warmed up is there too.

Looks like they will talk about our luggage first, as several items were laid out in front of us.

“Okay, listen. Before we get to the practical training, I’d to talk about a few things. It’s cold at this time of the year, so even if you’re in the southern frontier, you can freeze to death at night. Make sure you take adequate precautions against the cold. Also, there is an adventurer kit for beginners at the shop, I recommend buying it.”

Oh, thats a good thing to hear.

When this course is over, I’ll make sure to buy some for myself, Shiro and Ao. Other adventurers seem to be thinking the same thing.

“There is no problem to have as many blankets as you want, the latest ones are thin and have good warming feature. Everyone should also have a knife with you. Knives can be used for cooking, crafting, butchering prey, or even when you’re in danger. In short, they can be used for anything.”

It seems that they are also sold at the shop in this area. I’ll ask the people at the shop later.

The swordsman and mage behind me looked like they are very bored. I think they’re planning to leave the things they need to the female healer.

After that short lecture, the matter about necessary items in our luggage ended. It seems that we will start practical training from now on. We had been sitting crossed leg while listening to the lecture so my body had gone stiff. Well, the silent pressure is the biggest reason.

As we all started moving, the guild master suddenly called out to me and Shiro.

“Hmm, the black-haired boy and the cat-eared girl over there, what are your names?”

“Ah, yes. I’m Shun and this kid is Shiro.”

“And, this slime is Ao-chan.”

“Shun, Shiro, and Ao, you guys should go last.”

“Okay.”

“I understand.”

There was nothing wrong with being the last one to take the test.  Shiro and Ao is fine with it as well. Looking behind, the swordsman and the mage pointed at us and starts laughing, it was as if they are gloating that we are in trouble.

Really, I wish those two would worry about themselves before worrying about others.

Walking, Chapter 16: Classroom lecture in a tense atmosphere

Uhm, what kind of situation is this?

The whole course is scheduled to end in the morning, with the first half being classroom lectures and the second half being a practical training. With that being the case, all beginner adventurers gather in a private room with desks.

““……””

—But, why are they (the flashy-dressed swordsman and mage) sitting on my left and right side?

In front of me is a podium, and one of the burly staff member from earlier is standing there while glaring at the two people beside me. The two other burly staff members are guarding in both corners of the classroom.

By the way, Shiro and Ao are in the seat behind me, next to the woman who kept on apologizing for her two companions.

The atmosphere in the room is very tense. No one is talking about unnecessary things. Everyone, except for the noisy party members, were in a low mood. I guess all of us are wondering how things had come to this.

“Well, we have some spirited guys here today so let’s start right off the bat.”

The muscular staff member standing at the podium in front of me had shaved head and is wearing sunglasses ——in fact, all the staff members in this room are the same. In addition to that, they are wearing a suit that are so tight that it looked like it is going to burst at any moment. It made them look even more scary. I almost had the illusion that they are members of a mafia, not staff members of the Adventurer’s Guild.

“All right. Let’s start the lecture. I want to leave more time for your practical training so let’s get going.”

I could tell that through his sunglasses, he is glaring at the two people sitting on my both sides. The attitude of these two people next is really hateful after all.

Ah, just why did I end up between them?

“Now then, take out the booklet that was given to you when you registered as an adventurer.”

Everyone puts a booklet on their desk.

Huh?

The two of them did not have a booklet on their desks but they still have the nerve to act upright.

“Oi, why don’t you two have your booklets? It was only handed out yesterday.”

“Thrown away.”

“Huh?”

“I said, I threw it away. One book is enough for a party, right?”

Silence.

From the very beginning, the two of them did not do anything right. The temples of the staff member who is acting as the lecturer are twitching, the blood vessels look like they are about to burst.

We are all in our tenterhooks.

At this point, the staff member in the corner came to the front and he deliberately and carefully placed a booklet on the desk of the two. He also did not forget to grin at them. The swordsman and the mage had poker faces, but their legs are shaking.

By the way, the booklet is in the size of a small paperback book, so it can be carried with you.

“Be sure to carry this booklet with you. You must not leave it to anyone else.”

I’ve also heard the same thing from the receptionist before. It’s the rule of thumb for adventurers, so how could they throw it away? I really think they got loose screws on their head.

“Adventurers are said to be a bunch of ruffians, but without trust, you can’t have a job. If you fail too many requests or do something that makes you untrustworthy, we will revoke your adventurer license.”

This is the same for all professions. You can’t entrust work to someone you don’t trust.

“That’s also the reason why adventurers are ranked and each have a limited number of requests that they can take. After all, there are some people who want to get rich quickly so they just take on requests even though they don’t have the ability to do so. As for the ranks I’ve mentioned, there are ranks from S to G rank, but you should aim for E rank first.”

Again, the guild staff member glared at the two people sitting on my both sides. It’s partly to keep them in check, but I’m also feeling intimidated.

Anyways, I guess this is what the innkeeper meant when he said that if I go up two ranks, I will graduate from being a beginner.

“Naturally, it’s forbidden to steal the achievements of other adventurers, that’s just what a robber does. Of course, you are also prohibited to intentionally hurt other adventurers, even if he or she is  your party member.”

Once again, the staff member made a piercing glare at the two. He emphasized the “intentionally injuring someone” part. I think they are worried that the other woman will be badly treated.

“When accepting a request, it is important to do a lot of research beforehand. Even if it is simply gathering medicinal materials, it is very important to do research in advance.”

This is important not only for adventurers. I’ll ask the receptionist for more information about collecting medicinal herbs later.

The explanations that followed were all common sense, not just for adventurers, but as a person.

Hmmm, I wonder if these two can understand that……

Walking, Chapter 15: Applying for the beginner’s course and two people causing a ruckus

“Why do I have to take the course!?”

“Yes, I don’t get why there’s a need for it.”

“This is an instruction from the Guild Master. If you don’t take it, your adventurer registration will be canceled.”

When we entered the Adventurer’s Guild, I saw a two adventurers making a fuss at the reception. They’re the ones who made a ruckus in front of the inn yesterday. The swordsman who is wearing a gilded armor and the mage in a flashy outfit were yelling at the receptionist in the first window. Their other companion, the woman who is dressed plainly, is trying her best to appease the two of them. The receptionist just remained smiling at them.

I said she’s smiling, but she is clearly mad.

Since it is early in the morning, there are many adventurers in the guild, but all of them were just staring at those two loggerheads.

Right, I wanted to avoid getting involved as much as possible, so I took Shiro and Ao and lined up at the reception window further away. Or rather, it seems that other adventurers had the same idea, so the reception window in the corner was the most popular.

“I’d like to take the beginner’s course please.”

“Got it. For two people, right? Familiars can join in too. We will make an announcement when it is about to start, so please come to the window again.”

“Yes.”

After standing in line for 10 minutes, the check-in process was soon over. And at that noisy reception window, the party of three are now surrounded by burly staff members.

Eh? What happened to their previous bravado?

The swordsman and mage in the flashy outfit are now pale looking. And the other woman was bowing to the people around her.

Just then, a petite martial arts looking woman came in. The burly staff members bowed deeply to the woman.

“Oh, the Guild Master has arrived.”

“Hahaha, are those two going to be baptized?”

Hmmm, it looks like that woman is the guild master. The adventurers who are in the reception line with us taught us a lot.

The Guild Master is smiling, but she’s giving off a tremendous amount of pressure.

“That woman is very strong.”

“Oh, can you tell, little girl?”

“Yes. I kind of feel it.”

“I see. You can be a first-class adventurer then.”

The adventurer praised Shiro. He then patted Shiro and Ao’s heads.

Well, knowing your opponents strength is also important.

All right, let’s go back to those three. Let’s see what happened to the focus of attention in the Adventurer’s Guild a while ago.

“Not only did you cause a ruckus in the town yesterday, but now you’ve once again caused a ruckus at the reception window. I think you need to be punished. Fufu.”

““Hiii!””

The flashy-dressed swordsman and mage were completely overwhelmed by the imposing presence of the petite woman. It seems that they finally instinctively understood that they are in trouble. The woman, who had been apologizing for a long time, also turned pale.

“Whether you are the son from a noble family or not, has nothing to do with the guild. On the contrary, with your misconduct, it is possible for the guild to send you back to the territory you grew up in.”

““A-aa…..””

“Fufufu, I’m looking forward to the lecture later.”

Ah, it seems that the Guild Master was quite angry about the commotion they did in the guild.

Eh?

….Did the Guild Master said the lecture later?

Hmmm, maybe well be dragged into this too……

“All right, those who will be taking the beginner’s course, please come to the front.”

At the receptionist’s announcement, not only us, the people at the inn, but also the group that was making a fuss start gathering together. But for some reason, the swordsman and the mage were glaring at me.

Eh?

What does that mean?

Puzzled by their reaction, I headed towards the reception window with the others.

Walking, Chapter 14: Going to the guild

“Oniichan, wake up!”

Peshi-peshi, peshi-peshi.

“Wake up!”

Peshi-peshi, peshi-peshi.

Peshi-peshi, peshi-peshi.

Hmmm, what the?

Shiro and Ao are on top of me as I sleep and they pinch and pat me on the cheek. I pulled out the world map to check the time.

Uh-, it’s only five o’clock in the morning.

Apparently, Shiro and Ao woke up early because they want to go to the Adventurer’s Guild already.

But it’s still early in the morning…. So, good night.

……Guh.

“Wake up, yaa!”

“Guoh!”

A, aghh……

I felt like sparks fly in front of my eyes.

Shiro and Ao shook me so hard, throwing me off balance. Then Shiro’s knee hit me in the pit of my stomach. Even though it was through the futon, it was still quite an impact. I writhed in agony for a minute. I woke up completely right afterwards. I pat the heads of Shiro and Ao, who apologize to me again and again.

All right, it’s time to get ready.

Since it is available, I decided to drink some black tea that was in my item box for some reason. I’m grateful to be able to use water magic at times like this. I placed the kettle on the magic stove, pour out some water to it and then I turned the stove on. In the meantime, I changed my clothes and took out some bread.

I made tea, served bread and salad, and then I eat with Shiro and Ao.

“There is a lecture today, right?”

“Yes. It’s for people like us who have registered as adventurers for the first time.”

“I wonder what they’ll be teaching us.”

“Well, I guess we won’t really know until we actually go there.”

Before going to bed yesterday, I looked at the booklet that was given to us when we registered as an adventurer. However, it didn’t say anything about the lecture that will be held today. I’ll have to go to the Adventurer’s Guild to check it out.

“Thanks for the meal.”

“Yes, thank you for the meal.”

Shiro and Ao also finished eating, so we cleaned the dishes with life magic. I cooled the excess hot water and wiped my face with a hot towel, which was much refreshing.

“You haven’t forgotten anything, right?”

“Yep! I’m all good.”

“Alright, let’s go to the Adventurer’s Guild.”

“Ou!”

It’s still early in the morning, but Shiro and Ao are so excited to go, so I decided to go to the Adventurer’s Guild earlier than planned. After making sure that we did not leave anything behind and locking our room, we are now all set.

When we went down to the first floor, the innkeeper is already working at the counter.

“Good morning, sir.”

“Good morning~”

“Oh, you guys are early.”

“Shiro and Ao woke up early.”

“Hahaha, that’s much better than oversleeping. Take care.”

“Ye~s”

The innkeeper sees us off as we head out early in the morning.

Mmm, as expected, it is a little cold in the early morning. My hand that holds Shiro’s hand felt warm though. There were already many people coming and going in the market.

“It’s amazing. It’s already full of people.”

“It looks like not only adventurers, but also those who are working in the city are buying food at this time.”

There are many food stalls and the delicious aroma of their foods wafts in the air. I bought a few and put them in the item box for our lunch.

By the way, the Adventurer’s Guild is right next to the inn and the market, so we arrived in no time.

Shiro and I opened the door to the Adventurer’s Guild.

Walking, Chapter 13: Beginner Adventurers

“We are back.”

“We’re back!”

“Welcome back. Hey, you’ve bought some beautiful clothes!”

“Yes!”

When we returned to the inn, we were greeted by the innkeepers’s daughter. She immediately complimented Shiro’s clothes, stroked her head and pats Ao.

“Dinner will be ready in half an hour.”

“Okay~”

It’s about dinner time but I don’t want to get our new clothes dirty so we went back to our room, change our clothes, and then we head back downstairs.

When we went to what appears to be a dining hall area on the first floor, there are already other adventurers eating there. There are about 10 people here, but apparently, there are more people staying at the inn it’s just that they didn’t include the meal.

“Good evening!”

“Oh, what a lively little girl.”

“If you’re in this inn, I guess you’re a beginner adventurer like us, right?”

They seemed to be nice, but they certainly didn’t feel very strong.

So these people are also new adventurers?

“Are big brothers adventurers too?”

“Yes. We just registered today.”

“Is that so? Shiro too. We just registered as an adventurer today as well.”

Without worrying about their appearance, Shiro talks to people she thinks are good. Even now, Shiro is casually talking to a stern-looking young man.

“This inn is for the low-ranking ones after all. So seeing your face at this inn is when you just register.”

“Hey, it’s nice to chat, but you should eat your food too.”

“Wow, that looks delicious!”

Here, the innkeeper and a woman who looked like his wife brought a platter. Shiro and Ao’s eyes are glued to the platter of vegetables served in front of them.

“So that’s why the guild is also guiding new registrants here huh.”

“That’s right. I think there will be a training session tomorrow for you guys. But once you leveled up by two ranks, you can graduate from this inn.”

Shiro and Ao are already biting into the food in front of them, so I briefly confirmed about it with the innkeeper. I’m sure there were a lot of information written in the handbook I received. I’ll read it again before I go to bed.

“Mmm, it’s delicious!”

“Really? Eat more then.”

“Yes!”

Shiro is eating stir-fried vegetables with Ao. The innkeeper’s wife squinted at the amount of food they are eating. I also eat it, but it seems that salt is not the only seasoning in it. It looks like they use some other seasonings as well.

“Uhm, landlady, can I ask if you use any seasonings other than salt?”

“We used a foreign seasoning called shoyu. I think there is a shop in the market that sells it.”

“Thank you. I’ll stop by next time.”

Right, I thought it tasted nostalgic somewhere. Mmm, I have to get this seasoning. The other adventurers were also interested in the conversation I had with the landlady.

“Hoh-, young man, you can cook?”

“That’s right. Shun-oniichan’s food is delicious!”

“I see, I see. Then, maybe I can ask you to cook if we do a joint request?”

“Well, if it’s a simple one, I don’t mind.”

Maybe the adventurers are not good at cooking?

I’m getting some kind of expectant stare. Shiro and Ao joined in and stared at me as well.

“.…”

Since we have to get up early tomorrow to go to the guild, I decided to go to bed immediately after dinner. I used life magic to clean up Shiro and Ao. Okay, time to sleep.

But then……

“Shiro, Ao, why are you in my bed?”

“Because it’s cold!”

While I was sleeping in the upper bed, Shiro and Ao, who were lying down on the lower bed, sneaked in my bed for some reason. Thinking that it couldn’t be helped, we all went to sleep together.

Walking, Chapter 12: Shopping

“Wow, it’s full of people.”

“Come on, hold my hand so you don’t get lost.”

“Okay~”

I decided to go to the market to kill time until dinner. There are a lot of people coming and going in the market to buy dinner. I held Shiro’s hand so she wouldn’t get lost. Shiro is also looking up at me with a smile.

“Oh, there’s bread for sale. Should we buy some?”

“Mmm. Shiro likes this bread.”

There’s still some food left, but there’s not much bread, so I bought some. By the way, there are seasonings too, so I bought a few. There are also rare fruits. I bought some as well.

“Hey, they are selling ribbons.”

“Then let’s dress Shiro up, what colors do you want?”

“Red, blue and yellow!”

They are simple ribbons so I thought it would be nice for her to have a few. I immediately tied her hair into a ponytail with a red ribbon. Shiro looked very pleased with it as she is smiling all the way. Speaking of which, there is something I needed to buy so we head to a clothing store along the street.

“Welcome”

“Can you please take care of her clothes and underwear?”

“Oh my, what a lovely little sister. I’m honored.”

Seeing Shiro being taken away by the clerk who welcomed us, I also started picking my clothes and underwear. There are many women’s items in this shop but there are also men’s ones, so I bought some for myself as well.

“Shun-oniisan, I’ve changed my clothes!”

“Oh, it’s a beautiful outfit. You can wear it when we are not doing requests so that it won’t get dirty.”

“Yes!”

Shiro is wearing an all-white dress. It matches the color of her hair and she looks great in it. For some reason, Ao, who is on top of Shiro’s head, is also swaying happily.

“I’d like to have a bag for this kid to use when we are doing our task. Can you recommend anything good?”

“I recommend a magic bag. It is not only for adventurers, but everyone can use it. However, general-purpose ones  are a little expensive.”

“What are the none general-purpose ones?”

“You mean, the ones for the mages?”

Does she mean there’s a magic bag specifically made for mages?

I wonder what is the difference between it and the general-purpose ones though.

“In principle, mages are the only ones who can use magic bags. Many people can’t use magic after all. The price for those magic bags are generally low because of its simple structure. General-purpose magic bags are very expensive because they are very difficult to construct, but anyone can use them.”

“I see. There is such a difference huh. Well, me and Shiro can use magic, so I’d like the ones for mages.”

“Well, it will still cost you a million gold coins.”

“Oh, thank you for that information. I’ll do my best to save money.”

“Then, you’ll have these clothes for today, right?”

“Yes please.”

I’ve heard a good information today. I’ll try to complete more request to buy a magic bag for Shiro. Now that I have my item box, it won’t be an inconvenience. I decided to just buy clothes today.

“Fufufu”

“Shiro’s in a good mood huh.”

“I got a new outfit after all!”

It is getting late, so we decided to go back to the inn. Dressed in new clothes and holding Shiro’s hand, we returned to the inn.

Walking, Chapter 11: Arriving at the inn

Shiro, Ao and I left the guild and looked for Komadori Inn, which is said to be nearby. But while we were searching, we saw an eye-catching scene.

“How can I stay at such a cheap inn!?”

“Let’s find an elegant inn that is suitable for us.”

“Sorry, sorry.”

There was a very arrogant-looking swordsman, a female mage in flashy clothes, and a short woman bowing profusely to the innkeeper.

Hmmm, they are probably the party that sold a ruined material.

They are certainly wearing a flashy, aristocratic outfit. I just thought that we should not get involved with that group but here we are, we met them right away. Both Shiro and Ao, who is sitting on Shiro’s head, look on in amazement.

Without a care in the world around them, the three people party walked briskly and disappeared into the center of town.

“We shouldn’t get involved with that group.”

“Yeah. That guy and that flashy woman in particular gave me a bad feeling.”

Ao also agreed with Shiro’s words. In any case, they are someone we shouldn’t get involved with. Even the townspeople, who seem to be used to hooligans, are wary of that group.

“However, we are staying at that inn.”

“Well, as long as I’m with Oniisan, Shiro has no problem with it.”

So, we headed towards Komadori Inn.

Hmm, it certainly look cheap, but I still think it’s a fine place to stay.

“Hello!”

“Oh, welcome, little girl.”

We were greeted by the innkeeper who looked like a former adventurer. But he didn’t seem bad at all.

“Excuse me, I’d like to book a room. Are there any rooms available?”

“Yes. If you’re together, a room with two beds would be best.”

“How much would it be for two weeks?”

“It’s 70,000 gold coins including dinner. If you won’t ask for dinner, you can get a discount of 1,000 gold coins per night.”

“In that case, I’d like the one with dinner included.”

“Thank you for your patronage. I’ll have my daughter show you to your room now.”

I paid the money in advance. The amount of the previous transaction of selling the wolf materials was 300,000 gold coins. I still have some funds to spare, but I’ll leave it for two weeks.

“Oh right, that room has no bathroom. But you can take a bath in the backyard.”

“Understood. Thank you for your concern.”

We have life magic so we can clean ourselves right away, but normal people can’t use magic. Besides, taking a bath during this winter season seems quite cold.

“By the way, I saw that there was a commotion earlier, is everything okay?”

“That much is fine. We are affiliated with a guild after all. However, sometimes, some rich, deluded bastard who just became an adventurer causes a commotion like that.”

“Hmm, I think this is a very reasonable inn.”

“Expensive inns offer great services, but once you get used to them, it’s hard to go to other inns. But eventually, they’ll face reality and would end up staying at cheaper inns.”

The innkeeper laughed it off. He seemed to have a lot of experience like that so he looked quite relaxed now. Then, a woman who seemed older than me appeared.

Is she the innkeeper’s daughter?

The owner of the shop is human, but she looks like a rabbit beastman with big long ears and a large chest. Shiro and Ao’s gazes were glued to the woman’s breasts.

“Dad, the room is ready.”

“Oh, is that so? Then show them the way.”

With her daughter leading the way, we headed towards the room. The inn was silent, as the other adventurers had gone off to receive requests. I was shown to a corner room on the second floor.

“This is your room.”

“Wow, it’s beautiful!”

“Hahaha, thank you. I’ll give the key to your brother.”

“Ye~s.”

The sunshine is nice, so I don’t feel that cold outside. Shiro and Ao immediately dived into bed. The bed is a bunk bed and the room also had a small desk and chair.

“The bathroom is a shared one. It is on the first floor. Dinner starts at six.”

“How do the others take care of their breakfast?”

“They often buy it at the market. There is a market nearby and it opens early in the morning, so many adventurers go there to buy it.”

The innkeeper’s daughter handed me the key and gave me a few instructions.

“Don’t forget to lock the door when you go out. And always lock the door even when you’re in the room.”

“To prevent theft, right?”

“That’s right. It’s good for you to have a reliable older brother.”

“Yeah!”

“If you need anything, please contact the front desk on the first floor.”

“Okay~.”

Shiro enthusiastically raised her hand as she replied to the innkeeper’s daughter. When she saw we are all good, she left the room and went back.

All right, we still have some time before dinner, hmmm, what should we do in the meantime?
