Knock, knock.
Click.
“Grandmaster, sorry to keep you waiting. Oh, Arisa’s here, too, so that must mean this man is Shun.”
A short while later, a man entered the room with a booming voice. He was incredibly muscular and stood well over two meters tall. Two horns protruded from his head, and with his red skin and long brown hair, he looked like an ogre at first glance.
“Ha ha! Judging by that look on your face, I take it you’ve never met an ogre before. I’m Goki, the Guildmaster of the Royal Capital Adventurers’ Guild.”
“Um, I’m sorry for staring. My name is Shun.”
“Ha ha! Nice to meet you!”
As expected, even his hand was enormous when we shook hands. The ogrekin really were an incredible race. Now that everyone had gathered, we got down to business.
“There’s absolutely no problem with registering Ao as an adventurer. He can communicate perfectly well, and he’s more intelligent than most nobles. Above all, he’s already accomplished plenty.”
“Wow! Ao’s an adventurer now, too!”
““Yay!””
Just like that, Quasar approved Ao’s adventurer registration without any fuss.
Ao was celebrating right alongside Shiro and the others.
“Shun, Sue, Shiro, and Ao will all be promoted to C-rank and receive titles officially recognized by the royal family. Fran and Horn will be promoted to D-rank and receive royal family-approved titles as well.”
“““Yey!”””
And just like that, our adventurer ranks had gone up yet again. The last time we’d been promoted was in the Northern Margrave’s territory.
Still, was it really okay for our ranks to rise this easily?
“Quasar-san, are you sure it’s all right to promote us? Honestly, I thought it would be at least another year before we ranked up again.”
“Your assessment is quite accurate, Shun. If you were simply completing ordinary requests, it would take more than a year to qualify for another promotion. However, you and your companions have accomplished far more than that. So there’s no problem at all.”
Quasar-san answered my question with a gentle smile, taking the time to explain things carefully.
Well, we had gotten involved in all sorts of things, both in the Western Margrave’s territory and after arriving in the royal capital.
With that settled, we handed everyone’s Adventurer Cards to the demon-race secretary so she could process the promotions.
“Now, I believe that covers the first matter. Let’s move on to the second. I’m sure you know that we’ve been keeping an eye on Sue’s situation. However, there was actually something in it for us as well.”
“Something in it for you?”
“Yes. As you may already know, Shun, quite a few adventurers end up getting recruited by the dark organization. We’ve been monitoring them and arranging for their capture.”
According to Quasar-san, the dark organization had been recruiting people in various regions, and over the past few years, they’d employed an especially wide range of tactics to do so. I remembered how they’d openly tried to recruit adventurers even in the Northern Margrave’s territory.
“Of course, we were keeping watch, with the Border Margraves and the Adventurers’ Guilds at the forefront, to make sure nothing happened to Sue. But you and your companions were such a formidable line of defense that things went relatively smoothly.”
“Well, there were a few close calls.”
“I never thought you’d have any trouble handling them, Shun. And since you and your companions stand out so much, you actually helped us draw the dark organization out into the open.”
So, in other words, our conspicuous presence had helped expose and capture members of the dark organization in various regions. Of course, we’d also captured quite a few of them ourselves.
