Now that Riana-san and her companions had finished introducing themselves, it was our turn to do the same.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Shun. I’ve only just been promoted to C-rank as an adventurer.”
“Thank you for the courteous introduction. Actually, I’ve heard a little about you from my father, Shun-san.”
Hmm?
Riana-san said she already knew about me, but unlike Sue, I hadn’t done anything particularly noteworthy that would make me stand out.
“Actually, my father is the Minister of Commerce. He was present at yesterday’s meeting at the royal palace, where he met with you and your companions.”
“Wha—?”
“My father said you were quite an impressive person, especially since you expressed your opinions so boldly in front of His Majesty the King.”
Whaaaat?!
Riana-san’s father had been in that meeting room, too?!
Oh, crap. Apart from the prime minister and the minister of military affairs, I couldn’t remember what any of the other cabinet ministers looked like. Realizing I’d messed up, I broke out into a cold sweat that just wouldn’t stop.
“I’m Shiro! And this slime is Ao!”
“I’m Fran!”
“I’m Horn.”
“Everyone seems so full of energy!”
Th-thank goodness…
Shiro and the others had started introducing themselves, successfully steering the conversation in another direction. What a relief!
“Shiro and Ao are C-rank adventurers!”
“And Fran and Horn have made it to D-rank!”
“My, what an impressive group of adventurers you all are! Hmm? Ao-chan, the slime, is a C-rank adventurer?”
Ah, just as I’d expected, Riana-san and her companions froze when they learned that a slime was an adventurer. As if to drive the point home, Ao pulled her own adventurer card out of her Item Box.
Riana-san and the others stared intently at Ao’s card.
“I-It really is an adventurer card…”
“And it lists a great many Hunter titles.”
“It even has a royal title! There’s no doubt about it—this is an absolutely extraordinary adventurer!”
Well, it wasn’t every day you came across an adventurer of Ao’s caliber. I could certainly understand why Riana-san and her companions were left speechless after reading everything written on Ao’s adventurer card.
“By the way, Shun’s title is Lightning Chef, Sue’s is Holy Empress, and Ao’s is Champion Slime.”
“P-Please, Arisa-sama! You didn’t have to bring up our titles here!”
“Oh, come on. You’ll find out about them soon enough anyway. Besides, an adventurer’s title is a good measure of their strength.”
Sue turned bright red with embarrassment as she protested against Arisa-sama. Then again, I knew Sue wasn’t particularly fond of her own title.
Just as I was thinking about that, Riana-san unexpectedly turned to me with a question.
“Uhm, I can understand why Sue-san and Ao-chan have titles that sound like those of adventurers, but why is your title Chef, Shun-san?”
“That’s because Shun isn’t just an adventurer—he’s also an outstanding chef who came up with dishes that became popular throughout the various Margrave territories. Even in the southern Margrave territory, hamburg steaks became a huge hit.”
“Oh, I know about hamburger steaks! My father said he would very much like to hire the chef who invented them.”
Riana-san’s face lit up with delight at Arisa-san’s explanation. Well, it certainly didn’t seem like Riana-san had any ill intentions.
Still, I just couldn’t accept it…
“Chef, huh? A chef…”
“Shun, you should experience firsthand just how much influence an adventurer’s title can have.”
Sue’s words hit me hard enough that my shoulders slumped in defeat.
At the very least, I wish I had a title that actually sounded like an adventurer’s…
