Clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop.
Our carriage passed safely through the gates of the royal capital, and after traveling for about thirty minutes, we arrived at our destination.
“You can gather lots of medicinal herbs in this forest.”
“There doesn’t seem to be anything particularly dangerous in the surrounding area.”
The spot Sue recommended was a small forest along a highway near the royal capital. People and carriages passed along the road, but even after using detection magic to search the area, I couldn’t find anything dangerous nearby.
We unhitched the horses from the carriage and gave them some food and water.
Even after being freed from the carriage, the horses simply stayed near us and peacefully grazed on the grass.
“All right! Shiro will teach Riana-oneechan how to gather medicinal herbs!”
“Fran will teach you, too!”
“Horn, too!”
“Hehe, I’m counting on you all.”
Without wasting any time, Shiro and the others took Riana-san and her companions by the hand and began teaching them how to gather medicinal herbs near the forest entrance.
Sue and Ao joined in as well, so I decided to keep watch over the surrounding area.
““Neigh!””
“Oh, right. You two are here, too. I’m counting on you to help keep watch.”
““Neigh!””
The horses seemed eager to help, as if assuring me that I could leave the job to them. They would keep watch alongside me.
With everyone in position, we began gathering medicinal herbs.
Rustle, rustle, rustle.
“Wow, Ao-chan, you’re amazing! You’ve gathered so many medicinal herbs!”
“Grrr… Shiro won’t lose to Ao!”
“”We won’t lose!””
Hmm, this was a scene I felt like I’d seen somewhere before, but Ao had already gathered a huge pile of medicinal herbs in no time and proudly showed them to Riana-sam.
Just as I’d expected, Shiro and the others took it as a challenge and began gathering herbs with all their might.
At this rate, it looked like teaching Riana-san how to gather medicinal herbs would end up being Ao and Sue’s responsibility.
Anyway, there still didn’t seem to be anything unusual in the surrounding area, so I decided to start preparing lunch. Since I’m at it, why not make something a little more luxurious?
Chop, chop, chop.
Chop, chop, chop.
“Shun-san, what are you making?”
“I thought I’d prepare a little course meal. I’m thinking of serving an appetizer, followed by a main dish, and finishing with a meat dish.”
“I never imagined we’d be able to enjoy a full course meal while out gathering medicinal herbs…”
With a duke’s daughter among our guests and plenty of ingredients on hand, I figured there was no harm in preparing something a little extravagant for the occasion.
And so, before long, I had a lovely little feast ready.
“This is amazing! I never imagined we could eat a meal like this while out on an adventurer’s expedition.”
“I always assumed we’d have to make do with hard bread and dried meat.”
“I thought adventurers always ate nothing but preserved food. Everything I thought I knew is being turned upside down.”
“““Munch, munch, munch!”””
It seemed that Riana-san and her companions were enjoying the dishes I’d prepared, too.
Personally, though, I’d planned the meal with Shiro and the other little ones in mind, making sure they got the nutrition they needed while they were still growing.
“Shun-san, even when nobles go on trips, they don’t get served meals like this. This is simply incredible.”
“As long as everyone enjoys the food, that’s good enough for me.”
“Hehe, that sounds just like you, Shun-san.”
It seemed Sue was enjoying the meal just as much as everyone else.
After we finished lunch, we all resumed gathering medicinal herbs together.
